1. RICHARD LAPOINTE
INTRODUCTION
Richard Lapointe has more than thirty years experience in computer systems development and training.
He has also been involved in real estate consulting, marketing and financial analysis in both the private,
non-profit and public sectors. He also possesses special financial and mathematical modeling skills, and
is fluent in both official languages.
EDUCATION
Richard received an Honours BSc. in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Toronto in 1966.
CAREER HISTORY
Consultant, Lapointe Consulting
2001 to present
Richard is currently working as a consultant with Lapointe Consulting on a variety of demographic and
residential studies, primarily for municipal clients. He has developed an in-house demographic model for
Lapointe Consulting to project population, housing and employment for Ontario municipalities. Using the
Lapointe Consulting demographic model—which conforms to Provincial guidelines and takes into account
demographic trends and housing market activity—Richard has recently prepared population and housing
projections for the City of Windsor, St. Thomas and Central Elgin, and Peterborough County. He has also
applied his technical skills to assist in affordability analyses for various municipal clients.
President, Desktop Innovations Inc.
February 1988- 2000
In 1988 Richard established Richard Lapointe & Associates, a computer consulting firm specializing in
IBM PC-based computer software training and development. In the fall of 1989, Richard Lapointe &
Associates evolved into Desktop Innovations Inc., which developed a maintenance management software
package to manage maintenance in industrial plants and facilities such as hospitals, hotels, schools,
commercial and residential buildings. The package, called MainBoss, has been sold to hundreds of
clients in Canada and the United States. A Help Center and training courses were established to provide
support to MainBoss users. In December 2000, Richard sold Desktop Innovations and the rights to the
MainBoss software package to Thinkage Limited of Kitchener, Ontario.

George Brown College,
September 1986 - January 1988
As an instructor at George Brown College (a contract position), Richard taught post-diploma adults
modern structured methodologies of systems analysis and design. Students learned how to perform and
direct a wide range of activities associated with the analysis, design, implementation, and documentation
of computerized business information systems. Students had the opportunity to practise their skills on
actual projects in the work world. Systems were developed on IBM PC's in DBase III Plus.
Senior Systems Analyst,
Richter and Associates
1984-1986
As a Senior Systems Analyst for Richter & Associates - a software house, Richard designed a number of
applications including a membership management system for the Association of Professional Engineers
of Ontario and a production scheduling system for a spinning mill factory (Dawtex).

Computer Consultant,
1977-1984
Self-employed as a computer consultant. Developed systems for a bumper recycling plant (Zenith
Electroplating) and an agricultural implement manufacturer (McKee Bros., Elmira). Applications were Bill
of Materials, Inventory Control, Order Entry and Invoicing, Sales Analysis, Accounts Receivable,
Accounts Payable, and General Ledger.

1974-1977
Founded Minitech Information Systems Limited in Montreal with three partners. In 1975 Richard opened a
branch office in Toronto, where he managed a staff of eight. Company employed forty people with annual
sales of $3 million. Major installations included BASF, DuPont, the CN Tower Restaurant, Queen
Elizabeth Hotel, and Thrifty's.

Worked for MAI in Montreal as a programmer. Accounts were primarily in the garment industry.

Worked for a small software house in Toronto as a programmer. Applications were mainly accounting
systems for distributors.
