1. Job Title: Engineering Technician
Job Purpose Statement:
To minimise plant and equipment failure, reduce downtime and maintain the production /
operations equipment and machinery within Thorntons PLC, and to proactively participate in
project work for continuous improvement.
To carry out the above remit in line with current regulatory and legal requirements and company
policy.

Communicate with suppliers for quotations for parts, spares etc., for approval by senior purchasing
levels.
Staff
The engineering technician is responsible for assisting in the training and development of
skilled/technical machine operators, apprentice and post apprentice engineers and supervising
contractors on site in accordance with the company policies and procedures.
Other
This role will apply practical skills, knowledge and experience to the workplace and assist in the
timely and competent completion of repairs, maintenance and improvement activities within the
business while assisting and team-working with other members of the department and production
teams. This role assists in ensuring regulatory and legal requirements are met on our plant and
services.
Key accountabilities include
• Maintaining production plant, machinery and equipment to increase its life and reduce the
potential for unplanned downtime / failure.
• Have a working knowledge of all production equipment, machinery and plant to quickly identify
faults and make necessary repairs and / or improvements to assist in meeting the operational
plans.
• Supporting and working with the engineers to repair, maintain and improve plant reliability.
• Identifying maintenance requirements on plant and equipment.
• Assist in project planning, and execution.
• Coordinate with suppliers, contractors and production for improvement work and repairs to
plant and machinery. Support production with a high quality / level of service and commitment
to reducing downtime and improving the plant and equipment.
• Maintain a high level of organisation and good working practice within the engineering
workshops (own work area) and around the work area in the production environment.
• Supporting initiatives to reduce energy consumption through repairing air leaks etc. and
sourcing viable low energy alternative parts.
• Co-ordinate contractor activity and inspect the quality of contractors work.

Qualifications include:
• City & Guilds / BTEC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• A proven record of attainment leading toward the above.
• CQM – CI techniques (or equivalent)

• Contractors and suppliers for projects, spares and replacement parts.
• Safety, Engineering and Facilities Managers for advice on new legislation / assistance to ensure
legal compliance.
