The world ‘yaffle’ is from the Dictionary of Newfoundland English (it means armload), which is fitting, because Memorial has a load of research, outreach activities, and expertise to share. Launched in 2009, Yaffle is Memorial’s online connecting tool. It’s an easy-to-use search engine to help research and ideas flow. Memorial users can post simple descriptions of their projects, interests and expertise, and community members are encouraged to submit “opportunities,” which are ideas for research projects which could use a bit of help from Memorial. The Harris Centre staff help with all aspects from writing summaries, discussing ideas, and brokering connections. We’ve linked grad students with supervisors, community members with researchers, media with sources, conference organizers with speakers…it’s like a match-making site for getting things done. Tools for Knowledge Mobilization The Harris Centre at Memorial University Development happens when people and organizations work together. By connecting Memorial students, faculty and staff with the people and organizations of Newfoundland and Labrador, The Harris Centre builds the sort of collaborative partnerships that make a difference. ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Public Policy Matters Regional Workshops Four times a year, we organize workshops which bring together Memorial students, faculty and staff with community leaders. We bring Memorial representatives on the road because these workshops focus on making connections, and creating an environment for discussion and brainstorming. ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],The Harris Centre and Memorial researchers went North for the Regional Workshop in Nain, NL, April 2010.
