1. ACTIVITY 2: STANDING ON THE
SHOULDER OF THE GIANTS
• Using the same groups in the reporting, each group will be
assigned to each of the periods (ancient, middle, and
modern), and the other group/s for Philippine Inventions.
• Group 1-ancient, 2-middle, 3-modern, 4-Philippine
Inventions, 5-ancient, 6-Philippine Inventions
• Each group should search for one great achievement during
the assigned time period aside from those mentioned in the
chapter.
2. ACTIVITY 2: STANDING ON THE
SHOULDER OF THE GIANTS
• Each group will accomplish the following:
1. Draw or print a picture of your chosen achievement.
2. Collect and paste these inventions on a ¼ illustration
board.
3. Design the board with a theme appropriate to the
assigned time period.
4. Explain in your own words how each invention works.
5. Additionally, identify their use and purpose.

• discuss how the ideas postulated by Copernicus,
Darwin, and Freud contributed to the spark of
scientific revolution; and
• analyze how the scientific revolution is done in various
parts of the world.

•Started in the early 16th century up to the 18th
century in Europe
•Invention of the printing machine and the
blooming intellectual activities done in
various places of learning, and the growing
number of scholars in various fields of human
interests.

developments in the fields of mathematics,
physics, astronomy, biology, and chemistry
transformed the views of society about
nature.

13. NICOLAUS COPERNICUS
• His ideas were an example of what is presently called
as a thought experiment
• He has interest in astronomy
• Was strongly influenced by a book entitled Epitome
published in 1946 by a German Author, Johannes
Mueller
• His idea and model of the universe was essentially
complete in 1510
• He has the manuscript called Commentariolus (Little
Commentary)
14. NICOLAUS COPERNICUS
• He has the publication of his book De
revolutionibus orbium coelestium (On the
Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres) on 1543 is
often cited as the start of the scientific
revolution
16. CHARLES DARWIN
• Is famous for his theory of evolution
• He changed the concept of the world’s creation and its
evolution
• Published his book The Origin of Species in 1589
• His book The Descent of Man was so impressive yet
very controversial
• Provided a different framework for doing scientific
activities; a science marked by observation and
experiment
18. SIGMUND FREUD
• Is famous figure in the field of psychology
• He made a significant contribution in the
scientific world through the development of an
important observational method to gather
reliable data to study human’s inner life
• “Method of Psychoanalysis” (to study human
mind and neurotic illness)
