9. land acknowledgement
We want to acknowledge as we gather that Bay Path
University is on the traditional land of the Nipmuc,
past and present.
While a land acknowledgment statement is an
important initial step and not enough, it is a
necessary decolonial practice that promotes
indigenous visibility and social justice, reminding us
that we are on settled indigenous land.
We condemn the unjust deeds done in the past and
honor with gratitude the land itself and the
indigenous people who have stewarded it throughout
the generations. We commit to continuing to work for
peace and reconciliation and to be better neighbors
and caretakers of the land we inhabit.

20. In Just a Few Words…
How have you experienced the concept
of "mental health" within your own
cultural communities?
● It was never spoken about, very taboo
● They didn’t
● We didn’t; so happy it’s changing
● Better just to stick quiet, look put
together instead of talking about how
you are emotionally and mentally
feeling
● I think it depends on who you’re
talking to - that can change what the
concept of mental health is
● In mine, they would claim anything
related to mental health as being
“crazy”

ourselves?
● It can frame who we are known as
● We think we are supposed to be a certain
way...have to be perfect. can't share our
flaws/challenges
● It can affect self-esteem and self-love since it's a
constant comparison to what people think is
"normal"
● If we aren't like others it's a problem
● feel shame and reluctant to self forgiveness
● We may try to alter ourselves to try and "fit in"
● If we don't fit into a catergory, it can be hard to
fit in
● Potentially setting unrealistic expectations for
ourselves and others
25. In Just a Few Words…

35. In Just a Few Words…
What do you need to create space
for in your life?
● Time to relax and regroup
● Allowing myself to think rather than go go go so I
don't have to deal with things
● I need to create time to make a plan for the week
● Art, painting, drawing, hobbies

● Connections with other people. I feel like working
in the mental health field we sometimes use the
excuse that we have too much socialization but I
need to create space for my people as well that
light me up
● Create time to have time for hobbies and self care
● This is definitely easier said than done!
● Pause
● Do a body scan
36. In Just a Few Words…

that opportunity to others

● Listening to our bodies and putting time and effort into
relationships
● Ask a someone to join you in your healing activity/
self care
● Allowing ourselves and others the ability to be
vulnerable and use our tear tool when needed
● Compassion
● Validate others’ feelings and your own
