The Genexpert MTB/RIF instrument is an automated diagnostic tool for detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis and its resistance to rifampicin through nucleic acid amplification. It processes specimens such as sputum, cerebrospinal fluid, and pleural effusion, providing quick and reliable results, with a reported sensitivity of 89% and specificity of 95%. The system has been implemented successfully in Nepal to enhance tuberculosis case detection and treatment monitoring.
