Raffaele La Monica
At 24 Raffaele began his PhD in International Relations at the University of Bologna. He went on to
become a researcher then short-term Lecturer in Political Organisation and International Administration
at the University Complutense in Madrid. He took part in seminars and conventions both in Italy and
abroad.
In 1995, aged 29, he became the Director of Tourism & City Marketing Department at Bologna Council
where he created the Club di Prodotto Città D’arte della Pianura Padana to promote 16 north italian
cities and became involved in the organisation of Bologna European Capital of Culture 2000.
In 1997, he became Planning & Control, Marketing and Communication Director at Marconi airport in
Bologna and CEO of Airports & Travel, created with Alpitour, the biggest Italian tour operator.
From 2001 to 2003 he worked as Marketing Director for the Tour Operators Group (HIT), which includes
eight tour operators and travel agencies chain. Since 2004 he has been CEO of Charming Hotels &
Resorts (91 hotels around the world) and has coordinated the re-launch of the luxury hotel chain and its
companies in USA, Australia, Japan.
Raffaele La Monica graduated in Political Science cum laude. He holds an MBA and two post-graduate
masters in business strategy and marketing at the University Politecnica of Madrid. He collaborate with
international Institution and leading figures in the tourism industry, transport and quality certification.
He has deposited two trademarks for Bologna’s Marconi Airport.
