The Group Relations Conference

A Group Relations Conference is a format in which a „temporary institution‟ is set up to explore issues
related to Leadership, Authority and Management of Change.

This temporary institution explores dimensions of change in the “here & now” -- through active
participation & experiential learning.

The conference is an intense experience of questioning, observing & working with the unconscious
processes behind the conscious role-taking of leaders & followers. It also explores the role of an
organization in the scenario of “change”.

The GRC creates event to mirror typical organizational situations.

Opening and Closing Small Study Groups Staff Management Marketplace Event
     Plenary Large Study Groups Event

The GRC offers powerful simulations on what happens on joining or leaving an organization. It provides
opportunities to explore personal effectiveness in an interpersonal face-to-face group. It explores the
organizational dynamics of the whole system and the problems of individual effectiveness in a large
group.
It explores the boundary and dynamics between members and the conference staff in management
role; this facilitates learning about the perennial problems in organizations between those in authority
positions and others who perceive themselves as less powerful, thereby making more creative
engagement possible.

FAQs

I am currently doing my post-graduation. Can I still do this course?

No. You need to have a completed PG degree to be able to apply.

I have a PG degree in Political Science but have interest in this area. Can I apply?

Yes. You will have to do a bridge course prior to the PC-PICC.

I have the desired qualifications but work in a corporate. Can I still do the course?

Yes. As long as you can take time out to attend all the Contact Classes.

Can I get a week off during the project work to go back to my hometown?

That is not possible. This is a tightly-woven course and each week will be packed with course work. Any leave during this
course will lead to disqualification. Personal emergencies can be viewed on a case-to-case basis.

I don‟t have any place to stay in Bangalore. Can I get some assistance?

Once you clear the interview, you can place your request for assistance. We shall help with contacts of student
accommodations in the vicinity.

How will the interview be conducted? How can I prepare for it?

The interview will be conducted by the course director/faculty to assess candidate-suitability. You are not required to prepare
for it, as long as you have reasonable concept clarity on your PG papers and are a keen and committed candidate.
FAQs…..contd.

Where will the Contact Classes be conducted?

They will be conducted at the Sukrut Centre in JP Nagar, Bangalore. The exact dates and timings will be handed over at the
plenary.

What aids would I need as a participant?

You will be given a PC-PICC Program Kit which would have reading material, notes book and stationery. It would also have a pen
drive to help you take and submit your assignments. You would need a personal computer/access to a computer during the
course.

What is a teach-back?

This is a session which is conducted by the participants after doing a self-study. Each participant is given a portion of the session
to prepare and conduct for the rest of the class. Participants are encouraged to use creative teaching aids to do so.

What can I expect from a Project Mentor?

You will be assigned a personal mentor from the faculty team who would meet you periodically to help you design your project,
clear roadblocks, advise on the progress and facilitate your learning during the project.

What will be other costs, in addition to the course fee?

You will be expected to stay in Bangalore at your own cost, if you are not from Bangalore. In addition, you would need to budget
for any expense related to your field-work, commuting, printing , use of cyber-cafes as and when needed.

Can I expect placement after the course?

100% placements guaranteed to all participants, starting within 8 weeks of course commencement to 6 months post-course.
In addition, on successful completion, participants get Exclusive Membership to the Tavistock Psychotherapeutic Organization and
can practice with them.
FAQs………….contd.

Can I meet my Project mentor as many times as I need?

You will have specified number of meetings: the number, and frequency will be shared at the plenary. However, the mentors
will be available on email to address any additional queries.

Can I change my Project mentor?

All of our mentors are equally competent and will be assigned randomly to you. You will have to work with the mentor
assigned to you.

Can I do the project along with another participant?

Each participant has to do a separate project. However, if during the design, there seems to be scope for folks to work in
dyads or triads, it will be considered. As long as each person‟s role in the project is clearly demarcated and all roles have their
own, individual deliverables.

In what format do I need to submit the project report?

The format will be shared mid-course.

What should I do if I need an extension of date?

It will be considered on a case-to-case basis, only taking into account serious personal exigencies.

This temporary institution explores dimensions of change in the “here & now” -- through active participation & experiential learning. The conference is an intense experience of questioning, observing & working with the unconscious processes behind the conscious role-taking of leaders & followers. It also explores the role of an organization in the scenario of “change”. The GRC creates event to mirror typical organizational situations. Opening and Closing Small Study Groups Staff Management Marketplace Event Plenary Large Study Groups Event The GRC offers powerful simulations on what happens on joining or leaving an organization. It provides opportunities to explore personal effectiveness in an interpersonal face-to-face group. It explores the organizational dynamics of the whole system and the problems of individual effectiveness in a large group.
