Audience theory
1. Question 3. What have you learned from your audience theory?
I created a Facebook group in order for me to add people to constructively
comment on my final product to help me evaluate the final outcome. I included
the five questions:
1. How has the music video met or challenged the conventions of a
generic pop music video?
2. Has it effectively drawnt your attention to the unusual creation of
a pop song?
3. If not, suggest a criticism for why it wasn't successful in challenging
a generic Pop music video?
4. Do you think the video has been edited successfully?
5. What was the overall success/failures of the video?
One of the most useful pieces of feedback I gathered was from Sophie
Sheehy, in which she quoted
2. โI think that using a conceptual music video you obeyed the modern
conventions of a music video as more music videos now are
conceptional however not using a main character meant that the video
was harder to relate to as an audience member. The overall idea was
origonal and creative, some sections of the lipsyncing were out of time
but generally good lipsyncing. If you were to do this again, maybe use
more shots and use premier more than relying on the special effects
from the other software!โ
I found this advice the most critically helpful and allowed me to gain
an opinion on the successes of my video and how I could improve my
product if I was to do it again. Another person's feedback I found
particularly useful was Adam O'Brien's, where he quoted โGood
example of confidence with using the software, however slight
improvements could be made to the timing of the different screen
shots.โ This allowed me to come to the conclusion of certain
improvements my video could have had in order to accurately have the
correct timing.
Shelby Padden quoted โGood effort, the end result works well and
definitely goes against the norms of a stereotypical Pop video!โ This
positive feedback enabled me to come up with a variety of positive and
negative points from my feedback, which helped me to critically analyse
the overall response on my music video.
Improvements:
1. Practice more throughly with the Premier software before
producing the video.
2. Establish a main character or focus purely on one individual as the
animal.
3. Use a wider range of softwares to include more special effects and
animations.
4. Include a wider range of technical merges of shots in order for
there to be fading in and out images.
5. Gather a wider range of images to include, but keep one as the
main singer to add to the conventions of a band.
