2. Introduction
• IIMA (Indian Institute of Management
Ahmedabad) established in 11 Dec,
1961 as 2nd IIM in India.
• Founding figures – Vikram Sarabhai,
Kasturbhai Lalbhai, Kamla Chowdhury.
• “Vikram Sarabhai Library” as a
important part of IIMA established
and named after Vikram Sarabhai in
1962.
• Best management library in Asia.
• Largest management library in India.
• Received “Award of Distinction” at
the ‘UNESCO Asia Pacific Award for
Cultural Heritage Conservation’
(2019).

•Librarian – Dr. Hiral Patel
•Staff – total 30 ( professional &
non-professional)
•Members – approx 3200 (student,
faculty, staff & other)
•Library hours – open for (24 x 7)
•Issue & Return Time – 9 am to 10 pm
(Mon - Fri)
– 9 am to 9 pm
(Sat, Sun &
Public holidays)

4. Aim of the library
• Library Motto – “Progress through the Application of
Knowledge”
– “Read Experience and Discover”
• Vision – To become an interesting, interactive and
technology rich space for learning, collaboration and
information discovery.
• Mission – To facilitate convenient and user friendly
access to current, global and relevant information to
meet their teaching, research, consulting, training
and learning requirements.

completed by TCS in 2019.

DDC-23 & catalogued by
AACR-2.
Fully automated circulation
system.

CD/DVD, Reference Book, Bound

19. Conclusion
• This study clearly shows how
Vikram Sarabhai Library using
the latest library services and
became a model for other
libraries, institutions, systems,
and policymakers.
• After the restoration and
upgradation, it is now a truly
hybrid library, blending
traditional print resources
with digital technologies and
committed to the larger
mission of making itself
relevant to the research,
education and learning needs
of the faculty, students and
research community at IIMA.
