4. • OSD is basically defined as osteochondritis/AVN of tibial tubercle
usually occuring in adolescents.
• Etiopathogenesis-Trauma-Obliteration of blood supply-aseptic
necrosis-hyperemia-Capillary and phagocytic infiltrate-fragmentation-
new bone.
5. Clinical features
• Pain,swelling, tenderness
• Pain aggravated on climbing stairs.
• Kneeling and active extension of knee against resistance is painful.
6. Investigations
• 1)X-ray
• Initially normal
• Earliest finding-Flattening of weight bearing surface of medial femoral
condyle.
• Fragmentation of tibial tubercle.
• Crater surrounded by Halo
9. Treatment
• Conservative
• Rest
• Avoidance of sports
• Immobilise in cylinder cast in full extensio. And gradually start
quadriceps and hamstring strengthening exercises.
• Pain medications-NSAIDS
