Period 1
Aims : Language - Revision of ‘will’; presentation of ‘be going to’ future
Other : Writing a personal letter about someone’s plan on “Amazing Thailand”
Vocabulary : flu, move, amazing, guess, plan, international, interested, the Internet, do the (some)
shopping, tourist attractions, look forward to
Materials : Handout 1 and Worksheet 1 (by SOMPARP KOMSON); flash cards (words) and sentence
strips.
Warm up : Revise ‘will’ by gap filling using the sentence strips, e.g.
– I will send you some postcards.
– Tomorrow is your birthday I’ll give you a present.
Presentation : 1) Introduce ‘be going to’ future by telling pupils that we often use the ‘be going to’ future
when we talk about someone’s PLANS and INTENTIONS in the future, e.g.
– We are going to move to Thailand.
– My Dad is going to work in Thailand next year.
– I’m going to study at an international school in Bangkok next September.
– It’s going to be fun!
– What are you going to cook for dinner? etc.
2) Go through the above sentences with the class. Make sure that they understand the use
of ‘be going to’ future. Then ask them to read the strips chorally and individually.
3) Handout 1. Ask pupils to listen to “Richard’s letter to Supong.”

Practice: Listen, read and write
1. Read the letter while pupils listen and read silently.
2. Pupils read the letter again chorally.
3. Teach the new words by asking pupils to highlight the words in the text.
4. A team spelling game.
– Divide the class into two teams. Ask each team to look up the new words in the dictionary (5 minutes).
Go through the class helping where necessary.
– Askonemumberfromeachteamtocometothefrontoftheclass.Eachsaysawordfortheothertowrite
on the board with its meaning in Thai. A correct spelt word with its meaning wins a point for the team.
5. Go through the new words again with pupils and ask them to write down the words in their notebooks.
