2. What is The Cloud?
• The first cloud computing services are barely a decade old
• The cloud is a network of servers, and each server has a
different function. Some servers use computing power to run
applications , "deliver a service’ or storing information/data.
• Any social media or online data drive (Google Drive, Sky Drive
or iCloud) are all part of The Cloud.

4. Benefits of The Cloud
• Cost – Using the cloud cuts the costs of buying hardware and software big enough to store all data
• Speed- computing services are provided as self service and on demand, so even vast amounts of computing
resources can be found within in minutes
• Global Scale - benefits of cloud computing services include the ability to scale elastically and flexibility
• Productivity – minimalizes the chores of IT management by stacking and racking hardware and
software
• Performance - run on a worldwide network of secure data centers, which are regularly upgraded to the
latest and fastest efficient hardware
• Reliability – Data on the cloud is always being backed up so loss of data is minimalized
5. Types of Cloud
• Public Cloud – Microsoft is an example of public cloud, which can be
accessed and managed through a web browser.
• Private Cloud - A private cloud is one in which the services and
infrastructure are maintained on a private network. Can be physically
located on company's on site data center
• Hybrid Cloud - Hybrid clouds are combined by public and private clouds,
bound together by technology that allows data and applications to be
shared between them. This gives businesses more flexibility
6. Who uses The cloud
• A variety of organisations – from tiny start-ups to global
corporations, from government agencies to non-profits
• Companies/Businesses using the Microsoft Cloud – Apple iCloud,
Samsung, eBay, Easy jet and Dell.
• Chances are everyone uses the Cloud, all the time unintentionally.
7. Statistics on uses of The Cloud
• 85% of the organizations surveyed began using the cloud only
within the last two years
• 51%began using the cloud within the past year
• 37%of organizations surveyed use public Infrastructure-as-a-
Service (IaaS) clouds
• 37% of organizations surveyed use private, on-site IaaS
• 35% of organizations surveyed use private, off-site IaaS
