The alpine biome
1. Alpine Biome
By Alison
The Alpine biome is a biome without trees and is one of the coldest biomes on earth due to
high altitudes. The temperature of the alpine biome is always below 10°C. An Alpine biome
will always be on a mountain region. Some of the alpine mountains are named Mont Blanc,
Matterhorn, Zugspitze, Alp d’Huez, and Eiger. These mountains are never above the
temperature of 10°C. Alpine biomes are on mountains at an altitude of about 10,000 feet or
more. When you’re on an Alpine biome you will know it.
Alpine habitats are usually formed on mountains by cold climates due to being up in the air.
Some of the landforms you may see in Alpine biomes are glaciers that have been there for
many years. Other types like landforms made by nature, with mountain lakes. In Alpine
biomes you will see many landforms, and when you see some, you will recognize it.
The food chain or food web in an alpine biome is very large. Since there are so many plants in
an Alpine biome (more than 200). Herbivorous animals eat the plants, but not poisonous
ones. Carnivorous animals such as wolves, snow leopards, etc. eat the herbivorous animals
that eat plants, not the grass like Mountain goats. The carnivorous animals don’t eat the
following animals such as Wild Yak, Mountain goats, and others because they can get hurt.
These are some facts about Alpine biomes.
