Essay on Pro-Death Penalty
Thousands of people will attack the death penalty. They will give emotional speeches about the one innocent man or woman who might accidentally
get an execution sentence. However, all of these people are forgetting one crucial element. They are forgetting the thousands of victims who die every
year by the hands of heartless murderers. There are more murderers out there than people who are wrongly convicted, and that is what we must
remember.
I, as well as many others, have total confidence in the death penalty. It is a very beneficial component of our justice system. The death penalty saves
lives. It saves lives because it stops those who murder from ever murdering again. It also deters potential murderers from ever committing the crime.

Jaime, a beautiful twentyā€“yearā€“old college student at SUNY Binghamton, had been walking back to her dorm after class when she was abducted by
Duffy at gunpoint. Wearing a black ski mask and gloves, Jaime's friends were unable to identify him. Having no idea who this man was, they watched
in horror as Jaime was grabbed, threatened, and taken away.
Jaime was thrown into the front seat of a red Nissan Sentra with no license plates. Later that day, the police located the vehicle, which had been
reported stolen, but Jaime and her abductor where nowhere to be found. There was not a single trace of evidence except for the fact that the car was
stolen from Jaime's hometown community.
Weeks went by and there were still no answers until the day two women, from Syracuse University, were abducted at gunpoint, the same way that Jaime
was. The police soon realized that the three kidnappings had significant connections linking them together. These three women had all gone to high
school together. Not only did they go to the same high school, they had all dated the same man at one point in timeā€“ Brian Duffy. It wasn't long before
police tracked him down for questioning.
Brian Duffy was arrested in April of 1997 for the rape and murder of my cousin Jaime and the two

If someone takes the life of another human being, is it worth taking their life too or let them rot in a cell? One of the biggest arguments in the U.S.
today deals with the death penalty on whether we should get rid of it or keep it around. Being also know as capital punishment it is used in order to
keep people in line. The very first known use of capital punishment was back in Eighteenth Century B.C., which assigned twenty five different crimes.
The death penalty is characterized as a cruel punishment by death penalty in states, pros of the death penalty, cons of the death penalty, and the
Constitution.
This is important because knowing how many states still have death penalty around shows it is still the punishment, because if you murder

Abstract On The Death Penalty
Abstract
The issue of capital punishment is a difficult one and the opinions are as diverse as the people giving them. The death penalty exists in 38 states and
those that have it spend enormous amounts of tax payer dollars to engage the justice system in what is a long and drawn out series of court dates and
appeals that are lasting years. In addition, the trials and appeals of those on Death Row will have attorneys, prosecutors, experts and judges with more
experience creating a major strain on the budget and manpower of the state. Nationally there is no study identifying the cost associated with the
Death Penalty, but each state uses their state laws and pay scales in determining the cost of the Death Penalty. Prior to the Death Penalty being
abolished New York has spent millions of dollars on Death Penalty cases and the result was there were no executions. Those in favor of the death
penalty believe that the cost associated with incarcerating an individual for life will far outweigh those associated with the Death Penalty, due to old
age, medical issues, food and other essentials needed to keep one alive. This would be true if the Death Penalty was a swift method of justice. The
monies spent on Death Penalty cases could be far better spent on local budgets and programs that are evidenced based and proven to provide needed
services, such as law enforcement, drug treatment and youth programs.

Benefits of the Death Penalty One of the most debated issues, whether capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, should be banned or still
be used, is still a widely disputed issue at the heart of political debate. Many states recently have been abolishing capital punishment. Yet, as of October
2014, support for capital punishment is still strong as three fifths of Americans continue to back capital punishment. It is important that capital
punishment is included as a punishment for all violent criminals for it can be used as a deterrent, taxpayers have to pay less money to sustain
criminals, and an executed criminal is no longer a threat to society. States that are considering abolishing capital punishment or have banned it already
should look at the positives of capital punishment and reconsider. The first reason to support capital punishment is that taxpayers will not have to pay
as much money to house, feed, and provide healthcare for violent criminals. "About 44 million people in this country have no health insurance, and
another 38 million have inadequate health insurance." (PBS) This is a shocking statistic as criminals in jail are provided with free health care which
over 25% of America still doesn't have. "For the average 632 prisoners in maximum security prison, the cost was $62,730 each. For those in minimum
security, the cost was $47,679 per offender." (McGowan) The cost of

Ethos On Death Penalty
The death penalty has been a huge part of many political debates for the past few decades. There are two sides, those for and those against its
continued use and both have logical arguments. My research question is if it is ethical and or beneficial for the U.S. government to continue using the
death penalty? To gain the attention of my audience, I am going to share two stories that my sources have on those with experience in the debate. The
Forbes article, "Considering The Death Penalty: Your Tax Dollars At Work," is an anti
ā€“death penalty piece explaining how an innocent man was on
death row and his opinion on whether or not it should be used. He said in the piece that living out a life sentence without parole is worse than being
executed....show more content...
One, saying it is inhumane and should not be done and the other side says that it is necessary in our society. Some of the nonā€“biased sources go over
just the statistics of the death penalty. This includes "DEATH PENALTY INFORMATION CENTER Facts about the Death Penalty" and "Should
the Death Penalty Be Allowed?". The first article explains the costs associated with the punishment, how much it is used, states that use it, and
people on death row. The second piece gives unbiased statistics on the pros and cons on the death penalty. By providing this background, I hope
my audience will be more aware of the debate and have more information. I will then incorporate a few more factual based articles to try and
provide all the necessary details, such as "Death Penalty Pro Con" and a few more biased articles then to get opinions going. I feel that all my
sources work well together as even when the articles have different viewpoints, they do not contradict one another much. Basically, they highlight the
importance of their own arguments and do not really go after the other side. Overall, I feel that I have the sources necessary to write this piece.
However, I do feel that having a few more scholarly articles will only help my

The Death Penalty, first established in the 18th Century B.C, is a punishment of execution for those who are legally convicted of capital murder. The
death penalty is legal in 32 U.S. states. The death penalty should not be legal in America because it does not deter crime effectively, it is very costly,
mistakes could be made, and it is unconstitutional.
Many questions arise from this punishment because there is no real justification. The death penalty should not be legal because it does not deter crime
effectively as it should. There is no credible evidence that capital punishment deters crime. The death penalty advocates that it would deter crime but
that is not the case. Studies have consistently failed to demonstrate that executions deter...show more content...
Keeping the death penalty would make Americans wary of how their government is running. Many of the amendments contradict with the penalty. For
example, Amendment 5 states, "No person shall be held for a capital or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand
Jury" (Death Penalty). Another example of an amendment which contradicts with death penalty is amendment 8. Amendment 8 states that, "excessive
bail should not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted" (Death Penalty). This is a prime example of how
the death penalty contradicts the constitution because death is not only a cruel punishment but also unusual. Another example of how the death
penalty is unconstitutional is the investigation done by CNN. CNN found out that a judge even disagreed with the death penanty, "a federal judge said
Wednesday the system is so broken it unfairly leaves inmates with uncertain fates, often for decades." (Almasy). "In his decision, Santa Anaā€“based
Judge Cormac J. Carney vacated the 1995 death sentence of Ernest D. Jones, who petitioned the court to determine whether his death sentence was
valid" (Almasy). This means that the judge does not know whether convicted of capital

Over the course of history, the death penalty is a very heated and debatable topic. The death penalty is often viewed as inhumane and cruel. As a
country that prides itself on American values and justice, we need to call attention to the criminals sitting in our jails. This is a monumental decision
that no one wants to make, but someone has to. My personal stand point of the death penalty is that the death penalty is in place to help rid our
society of criminal's that are incapable of being rehabilitated and released back into society. I support the death penalty because these criminals have
caused emotional upheaval and are costing our society more funds required to sit in our jails with the life sentence with no parole rather than exercising

The people that are against the death penalty have clearly stated that it is inhumane and cruel referring to the eighth amendment, in the constitution.
Even though these criminals are tried in front of a judge and a jury of their peers, they are just supposed to sit in jail. The men and women that are
incarcerated are there for their crimes and actions. Many lives have been devastated because of the actions of these criminals. The family of the
criminal that is incarcerated has to live with the guilt of what he/she has done. The families of the victims have to live with their pain and loss as well.
The drugs that inflict death upon the inmates are more costlier than habitation. Pharmacies have refused to sell the inducing drugs because they do not
want to associate themselves with the killing of a person, innocent or guilty. There are a lot of inmates sitting in prison for life that society thinks it is
easier to house them than to purchase the necessary drugs to put them to sleep. At the end of the day, the perpetrators are still human beings and need
to be treated as such.
In conclusion, after much debate, the punishment should fit the crime. We as a society have deliberated on the emotional aspect, of both sides and the
funding for keeping these criminals alive with no chance of parole. There will always be a new standpoint or opinion on the matter. But, we must
always try to make the right decision

Pro Death Penalty Essay
Capital punishment and the practice of the death penalty is an issue that is passionately debated in the United States. Opponents of the death penalty
claim that capital punishment is unnecessary since a life sentence accomplishes the same objective. What death penalty opponents neglect to tell you
is that convicted murders and child rapists escape from prison every year(List of prison escapes, 2015). As I write this essay, police are searching for
two convicted murders who escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York on June 6th, 2015. The ONLY punishment from
which one cannot escape is the death penalty.
Opponents of the death penalty believe capital punishment is unnecessary and inappropriate in our modern...show more content...
A fifth rationale in opposition is that the death penalty is too expensive or too costly to taxpayers to justify its use. According to those who oppose
the death penalty and certain studies, it costs more to execute a person than to keep him or her in prison for life (Death Penalty Focus, 2015). Finally,
it is believed by some that the killing at the hands of the state is not a righteous act but instead is on the same moral level as the murderers themselves.
According to capital punishment supporters, many of these reasons of the antiā€“death penalty movement are false and are now wrongly accepted as fact.
The argument that the death penalty does not deter crime is debatable. By executing murderers you prevent them from murdering again. If these people
no longer exist then they obviously cannot commit more crimes. In addition, criminals have admitted, in thousands of fully documented cases, that the
death penalty was the specific threat which deterred them from committing murder (Proā€“Death Penalty, 2014). The opponents of capital punishment
claim that the death penalty has caused and can cause the execution of innocent people. However, according to the supporters, no evidence indicates
that innocent people have been executed. Upon reviewing 23 years of capital sentences, a Wall Street Journal study indicated that they were unable to
find a single case in which an innocent person was executed (Eddlem, 2002). Furthermore, advocates note that the

The death penalty is one of the topics people either fully agree with or are absolutely against it, very few people are in between. I'm personally pro
death penalty. There is pros and cons to this topic, as well as everything else.
Nobody likes paying taxes, that's a fact, so why would you want to pay extra taxes? So that mentally ill people that could have done unimaginably
horrific things can live, be relatively happy, have a free home and eat 3 meals a day? If a person does something so horrible that they get a life
sentence why not put them to death? It costs less to put the, to sleep than to keep them alive. I believe that if you go against the rights to life (murder),
freedom (enslaving) or safety of victims (treason) you should be sentenced to death. If you think about it and put yourself in the victims possition you
would want the person to pay for his/her actions. The death penalty can also lower crime rates, people aren't scared to go to prison/jail, but every single

One con to the death penalty in that an innocent person could be put on death row. It's a very serious con, but there is a lot of good reasons that
such a thing could happen. One reason could be that the other person convicted has vanished and left nothing behind besides evidence pointing to
someone else. Another reason could be that the guilty perso has a very good lawyer. The final reason could be because of color or race, stereotypically

Putting people to death, judged to have committed certain extremely heinous crimes, is a practice that's been around for along time. In the later half of
the twentieth century, it has become a controversial issue. As a supporter of the death penalty, I consider this to be a good thing for my country and its
citizens. Capital punishment deters crime. Statistics prove consisted application of the death penalty deter crime. No executed murdered has ever killed

Abolitionists claim life in prison is a justifiable punishment for murder. They say it violates the eighth amendment right which forbids "Cruel and
Unusual Punishment". Let's examine the issue. Our founding fathers have never clearly defined the eighth amendment. According to the Justice of the
Supreme Court, They say the death penalty is not cruel and/or unusual and is an acceptable form of punishment. Capital Punishment is morally
justified. A crime is only as severe as the punishment that follows it. As Edward Koch wants said, "It is by exacting the highest penalty for the taking
of human life that we affirm the highest value of human life." Abolitionists use the bible as a source of all morality and have taken many quotations
from the bible out of context. One example abolitionists use is Matthews 7:1 Jesus said, "Judge not, that you be not judged" to say the death penalty
contradicts Christian values. In order for us to sentence someone to death we have to judge them. If you look at the whole picture, Jesus was saying
"Judge not, that you be judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to
you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let
me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye?

In fact, it is more expensive as compared to when containing the same criminal inside the prison for life. The costs involve the expenses acquired
before and during the trial. It involves a nonstop flow of legal wrangling, appeals and more. ("Death Penalty Pros and Cons.") Carrying out a single
death sentence for a criminal costs two to five times more than that putting that same criminal in prison for the rest of his or her life. This is due to the
costs, which include, but are not limited to, investigation costs, cost of processing evidence, substantial lawyer fees, amount of trials, number of
extensive appeals, substantial security costs, and incarceration costs. Prices also continue to rise after the criminal is sentenced to the death penalty,
because it costs more to house death row inmates, who are held in segregated sections, in individual cells, with guards delivering everything to them.
Thus, imprisoning criminals for life is tens of millions of dollars cheaper than to execute them. ("Pros & Cons: Death

Pros And Cons Of The Death Penalty Essay
Should the death penalty be legal? This simple question sparks a lot of controversy and is the topic of many debates. For countries like China and
Saudi Arabia, they say yes. But, for the United States, only about 62% of people agree. A number of execution methods have been used such as firing
squad, hanging, electrocution, and most recently, lethal injection. Both Dave Anderson and Robert Blecker are supporters of the death penalty, but
they both are not necessarily for the current execution methods available. Nick Gillespie and Jeffrey Toobin are against the death penalty, stating that it
is not only immoral, but is expensive and violates the Eighth Amendment. While both sides of this debate provide reasonable arguments, neither side
contributes enough to win the debate. Since 1973, 144 people that were on death row have be executed. The supporters of the death penalty believe that
by executing "the worst of the worst" will decrease crime, provide substantial punishments, and promote happiness and safety throughout the country.
Supporters are trying to find solutions to legalize the death penalty in the United States that is not considered cruel and unusual punishment, while still
providing justice for the victims and their families. "Most of the arguments against the death penalty; those of inherent unfairness and bias towards the
poor or racial minorities or the devastating potential for mistaken execution are both fallacious and misleading" (Anderson 2016). Dave

The death penalty is a form of punishment, which is given to a felon that has committed a major crime and requires for the criminal to be sentenced to
death. Capital punishment was a custom of the government and society for thousands of years as a way to "justify" the crimes of felons and is
unfortunately is still present in communities around the world. The death penalty is frequently a form of punishment in asian and middle eastern

a recent study of the United States top criminologists proved that the death penalty does not deter violent crimes. The study in the Journal of Criminal

There are a total of 3,350 inmates currently on death row. These people include all of the main races in America. In 1965 Robert Massie murdered

found evidence to support his cases and got parole and a second chance. Eight months later he robbed and murdered a businessman in California. This
is a obvious that the death penalty should not be abolished, better yet supported in all states. The death penalty will prove to all mentally unstable
criminals the horrors of death and will force them to face it eye to eye if they choose to commit the crime.

That is a resoundingly low number. That means that if a state declares a execution of the convict it is most likely going to happen. ?The number of
innocent people who have been executed have been ZERO?(Elliot, David/Marquis, Joshua). There have also been speculation that if a massacre
happens then the convict does not deserve to die? Many have said this is stupid that if someone does that he can be let off with a life sentence. Life
sentence is always better than death, so he should be executed.
The reason why people have been critical about the death penalty is that maybe the commonly used three drug cocktail is a painful death. The
cocktail consists of 3 drugs administered by a needle, the first is meant to incapacitate you then paralyze your muscles then to finally stop the
heart. Many are saying this painful. How much more painless can it get. And do the convicts that commit such a horrible crime deserve to be
painlessly executed? In China the common execution is one bullet to the back of the dead. In America that is unheard of and if anyone were to
propose such a thing they would be considered cruel and twisted. Some of have been exposed to the other forms of executions used in America. One
of them is electrocution which is solely used in Nebraska. A story is that a man was to be executed in Florida and a officer noticed that the sponge on

Essay On Pro-Death Penalty

  • 1. Essay on Pro-Death Penalty Thousands of people will attack the death penalty. They will give emotional speeches about the one innocent man or woman who might accidentally get an execution sentence. However, all of these people are forgetting one crucial element. They are forgetting the thousands of victims who die every year by the hands of heartless murderers. There are more murderers out there than people who are wrongly convicted, and that is what we must remember. I, as well as many others, have total confidence in the death penalty. It is a very beneficial component of our justice system. The death penalty saves lives. It saves lives because it stops those who murder from ever murdering again. It also deters potential murderers from ever committing the crime. ...show more content... Jaime, a beautiful twentyā€“yearā€“old college student at SUNY Binghamton, had been walking back to her dorm after class when she was abducted by Duffy at gunpoint. Wearing a black ski mask and gloves, Jaime's friends were unable to identify him. Having no idea who this man was, they watched in horror as Jaime was grabbed, threatened, and taken away. Jaime was thrown into the front seat of a red Nissan Sentra with no license plates. Later that day, the police located the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, but Jaime and her abductor where nowhere to be found. There was not a single trace of evidence except for the fact that the car was stolen from Jaime's hometown community. Weeks went by and there were still no answers until the day two women, from Syracuse University, were abducted at gunpoint, the same way that Jaime was. The police soon realized that the three kidnappings had significant connections linking them together. These three women had all gone to high school together. Not only did they go to the same high school, they had all dated the same man at one point in timeā€“ Brian Duffy. It wasn't long before police tracked him down for questioning. Brian Duffy was arrested in April of 1997 for the rape and murder of my cousin Jaime and the two Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Pro Death Penalty If someone takes the life of another human being, is it worth taking their life too or let them rot in a cell? One of the biggest arguments in the U.S. today deals with the death penalty on whether we should get rid of it or keep it around. Being also know as capital punishment it is used in order to keep people in line. The very first known use of capital punishment was back in Eighteenth Century B.C., which assigned twenty five different crimes. The death penalty is characterized as a cruel punishment by death penalty in states, pros of the death penalty, cons of the death penalty, and the Constitution. This is important because knowing how many states still have death penalty around shows it is still the punishment, because if you murder Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Abstract On The Death Penalty Abstract The issue of capital punishment is a difficult one and the opinions are as diverse as the people giving them. The death penalty exists in 38 states and those that have it spend enormous amounts of tax payer dollars to engage the justice system in what is a long and drawn out series of court dates and appeals that are lasting years. In addition, the trials and appeals of those on Death Row will have attorneys, prosecutors, experts and judges with more experience creating a major strain on the budget and manpower of the state. Nationally there is no study identifying the cost associated with the Death Penalty, but each state uses their state laws and pay scales in determining the cost of the Death Penalty. Prior to the Death Penalty being abolished New York has spent millions of dollars on Death Penalty cases and the result was there were no executions. Those in favor of the death penalty believe that the cost associated with incarcerating an individual for life will far outweigh those associated with the Death Penalty, due to old age, medical issues, food and other essentials needed to keep one alive. This would be true if the Death Penalty was a swift method of justice. The monies spent on Death Penalty cases could be far better spent on local budgets and programs that are evidenced based and proven to provide needed services, such as law enforcement, drug treatment and youth programs. • 4. Pro Death Penalty Essay Jonathan Lewin Miss Woods English 2 Honors ā€“ Period 6 22 February 2016 Benefits of the Death Penalty One of the most debated issues, whether capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, should be banned or still be used, is still a widely disputed issue at the heart of political debate. Many states recently have been abolishing capital punishment. Yet, as of October 2014, support for capital punishment is still strong as three fifths of Americans continue to back capital punishment. It is important that capital punishment is included as a punishment for all violent criminals for it can be used as a deterrent, taxpayers have to pay less money to sustain criminals, and an executed criminal is no longer a threat to society. States that are considering abolishing capital punishment or have banned it already should look at the positives of capital punishment and reconsider. The first reason to support capital punishment is that taxpayers will not have to pay as much money to house, feed, and provide healthcare for violent criminals. "About 44 million people in this country have no health insurance, and another 38 million have inadequate health insurance." (PBS) This is a shocking statistic as criminals in jail are provided with free health care which over 25% of America still doesn't have. "For the average 632 prisoners in maximum security prison, the cost was $62,730 each. For those in minimum security, the cost was $47,679 per offender." (McGowan) The cost of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Ethos On Death Penalty The death penalty has been a huge part of many political debates for the past few decades. There are two sides, those for and those against its continued use and both have logical arguments. My research question is if it is ethical and or beneficial for the U.S. government to continue using the death penalty? To gain the attention of my audience, I am going to share two stories that my sources have on those with experience in the debate. The Forbes article, "Considering The Death Penalty: Your Tax Dollars At Work," is an anti ā€“death penalty piece explaining how an innocent man was on death row and his opinion on whether or not it should be used. He said in the piece that living out a life sentence without parole is worse than being executed....show more content... One, saying it is inhumane and should not be done and the other side says that it is necessary in our society. Some of the nonā€“biased sources go over just the statistics of the death penalty. This includes "DEATH PENALTY INFORMATION CENTER Facts about the Death Penalty" and "Should the Death Penalty Be Allowed?". The first article explains the costs associated with the punishment, how much it is used, states that use it, and people on death row. The second piece gives unbiased statistics on the pros and cons on the death penalty. By providing this background, I hope my audience will be more aware of the debate and have more information. I will then incorporate a few more factual based articles to try and provide all the necessary details, such as "Death Penalty Pro Con" and a few more biased articles then to get opinions going. I feel that all my sources work well together as even when the articles have different viewpoints, they do not contradict one another much. Basically, they highlight the importance of their own arguments and do not really go after the other side. Overall, I feel that I have the sources necessary to write this piece. However, I do feel that having a few more scholarly articles will only help my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Pro Death Penalty The Death Penalty, first established in the 18th Century B.C, is a punishment of execution for those who are legally convicted of capital murder. The death penalty is legal in 32 U.S. states. The death penalty should not be legal in America because it does not deter crime effectively, it is very costly, mistakes could be made, and it is unconstitutional. Many questions arise from this punishment because there is no real justification. The death penalty should not be legal because it does not deter crime effectively as it should. There is no credible evidence that capital punishment deters crime. The death penalty advocates that it would deter crime but that is not the case. Studies have consistently failed to demonstrate that executions deter...show more content... Keeping the death penalty would make Americans wary of how their government is running. Many of the amendments contradict with the penalty. For example, Amendment 5 states, "No person shall be held for a capital or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury" (Death Penalty). Another example of an amendment which contradicts with death penalty is amendment 8. Amendment 8 states that, "excessive bail should not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted" (Death Penalty). This is a prime example of how the death penalty contradicts the constitution because death is not only a cruel punishment but also unusual. Another example of how the death penalty is unconstitutional is the investigation done by CNN. CNN found out that a judge even disagreed with the death penanty, "a federal judge said Wednesday the system is so broken it unfairly leaves inmates with uncertain fates, often for decades." (Almasy). "In his decision, Santa Anaā€“based Judge Cormac J. Carney vacated the 1995 death sentence of Ernest D. Jones, who petitioned the court to determine whether his death sentence was valid" (Almasy). This means that the judge does not know whether convicted of capital Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Pro Death Penalty Research Paper Over the course of history, the death penalty is a very heated and debatable topic. The death penalty is often viewed as inhumane and cruel. As a country that prides itself on American values and justice, we need to call attention to the criminals sitting in our jails. This is a monumental decision that no one wants to make, but someone has to. My personal stand point of the death penalty is that the death penalty is in place to help rid our society of criminal's that are incapable of being rehabilitated and released back into society. I support the death penalty because these criminals have caused emotional upheaval and are costing our society more funds required to sit in our jails with the life sentence with no parole rather than exercising ...show more content... The people that are against the death penalty have clearly stated that it is inhumane and cruel referring to the eighth amendment, in the constitution. Even though these criminals are tried in front of a judge and a jury of their peers, they are just supposed to sit in jail. The men and women that are incarcerated are there for their crimes and actions. Many lives have been devastated because of the actions of these criminals. The family of the criminal that is incarcerated has to live with the guilt of what he/she has done. The families of the victims have to live with their pain and loss as well. The drugs that inflict death upon the inmates are more costlier than habitation. Pharmacies have refused to sell the inducing drugs because they do not want to associate themselves with the killing of a person, innocent or guilty. There are a lot of inmates sitting in prison for life that society thinks it is easier to house them than to purchase the necessary drugs to put them to sleep. At the end of the day, the perpetrators are still human beings and need to be treated as such. In conclusion, after much debate, the punishment should fit the crime. We as a society have deliberated on the emotional aspect, of both sides and the funding for keeping these criminals alive with no chance of parole. There will always be a new standpoint or opinion on the matter. But, we must always try to make the right decision Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Pro Death Penalty Essay Capital punishment and the practice of the death penalty is an issue that is passionately debated in the United States. Opponents of the death penalty claim that capital punishment is unnecessary since a life sentence accomplishes the same objective. What death penalty opponents neglect to tell you is that convicted murders and child rapists escape from prison every year(List of prison escapes, 2015). As I write this essay, police are searching for two convicted murders who escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York on June 6th, 2015. The ONLY punishment from which one cannot escape is the death penalty. Opponents of the death penalty believe capital punishment is unnecessary and inappropriate in our modern...show more content... A fifth rationale in opposition is that the death penalty is too expensive or too costly to taxpayers to justify its use. According to those who oppose the death penalty and certain studies, it costs more to execute a person than to keep him or her in prison for life (Death Penalty Focus, 2015). Finally, it is believed by some that the killing at the hands of the state is not a righteous act but instead is on the same moral level as the murderers themselves. According to capital punishment supporters, many of these reasons of the antiā€“death penalty movement are false and are now wrongly accepted as fact. The argument that the death penalty does not deter crime is debatable. By executing murderers you prevent them from murdering again. If these people no longer exist then they obviously cannot commit more crimes. In addition, criminals have admitted, in thousands of fully documented cases, that the death penalty was the specific threat which deterred them from committing murder (Proā€“Death Penalty, 2014). The opponents of capital punishment claim that the death penalty has caused and can cause the execution of innocent people. However, according to the supporters, no evidence indicates that innocent people have been executed. Upon reviewing 23 years of capital sentences, a Wall Street Journal study indicated that they were unable to find a single case in which an innocent person was executed (Eddlem, 2002). Furthermore, advocates note that the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay Pro Death Penalty The death penalty is one of the topics people either fully agree with or are absolutely against it, very few people are in between. I'm personally pro death penalty. There is pros and cons to this topic, as well as everything else. Nobody likes paying taxes, that's a fact, so why would you want to pay extra taxes? So that mentally ill people that could have done unimaginably horrific things can live, be relatively happy, have a free home and eat 3 meals a day? If a person does something so horrible that they get a life sentence why not put them to death? It costs less to put the, to sleep than to keep them alive. I believe that if you go against the rights to life (murder), freedom (enslaving) or safety of victims (treason) you should be sentenced to death. If you think about it and put yourself in the victims possition you would want the person to pay for his/her actions. The death penalty can also lower crime rates, people aren't scared to go to prison/jail, but every single human has a fear of death. If we put some convicted criminals on death row it'll put some sense into them....show more content... One con to the death penalty in that an innocent person could be put on death row. It's a very serious con, but there is a lot of good reasons that such a thing could happen. One reason could be that the other person convicted has vanished and left nothing behind besides evidence pointing to someone else. Another reason could be that the guilty perso has a very good lawyer. The final reason could be because of color or race, stereotypically black males are more likely to commit felony crimes like Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The Controversy Surrounding The Death Penalty Professor O Putting people to death, judged to have committed certain extremely heinous crimes, is a practice that's been around for along time. In the later half of the twentieth century, it has become a controversial issue. As a supporter of the death penalty, I consider this to be a good thing for my country and its citizens. Capital punishment deters crime. Statistics prove consisted application of the death penalty deter crime. No executed murdered has ever killed again. For many years, Criminologists have thought to believe the death penalty has no affect as deterrence to homicides. From 1972ā€“1976, a suspension was place on capital punishment. The United States had 9,140 murders in 1960 where 56 people were executed. Nine years...show more content... Abolitionists claim life in prison is a justifiable punishment for murder. They say it violates the eighth amendment right which forbids "Cruel and Unusual Punishment". Let's examine the issue. Our founding fathers have never clearly defined the eighth amendment. According to the Justice of the Supreme Court, They say the death penalty is not cruel and/or unusual and is an acceptable form of punishment. Capital Punishment is morally justified. A crime is only as severe as the punishment that follows it. As Edward Koch wants said, "It is by exacting the highest penalty for the taking of human life that we affirm the highest value of human life." Abolitionists use the bible as a source of all morality and have taken many quotations from the bible out of context. One example abolitionists use is Matthews 7:1 Jesus said, "Judge not, that you be not judged" to say the death penalty contradicts Christian values. In order for us to sentence someone to death we have to judge them. If you look at the whole picture, Jesus was saying "Judge not, that you be judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Pro Death Penalty Pros Did you know that the cost of the death penalty was about $184 million annually in California? Now picture a lady casually walking down the street when someone runs up, shoots her, just for the $20 in her wallet. But she's also a single mom with two children who now have no mother. Now those kids will grow up without anyone to guide them but there foster parents. So now there lives are forever changed and that murderer gets to live just because the government doesn't want to pay for it. Body paragraph 1 If there was a death penalty it would probably keep more murderers out of public then if there wasn't. Some would say that it wouldn't make a difference. They say this because the percentages of when there was and when there wasn't a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Pro Death Penalty Essay Have you ever wondered what it's like to have your life be taken away by your own crime? Death penalty is the punishment of execution, administered to someone legally convicted of a capital crime ("What is Death Penalty and Capital Punishment?"). Capital punishment is not a good way to punish people and it should be removed everywhere in the U.S. To put in other words, death penalty is a violation of the eighth amendment. The Constitution states, "excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted," ("U.S.Const.Amend.VIII"). Over 120 years, there has been 276 botched executions, which means that the execution went wrong in several ways, making the inmates suffer, ("Botched Executions"). Of the 276, there has been 75 botched lethal injections, the execution rate for botched inmates is 7.12% ("Botched Executions")....show more content... Since 1976, more than 1,000 people have been executed innocently, and there is no way to tell if they were innocent or not ("Executed but Possibly Innocent"). Once a prisoner is killed from death penalty, nothing can be done to fix the mistakes that have been made ("Innocence"). "At least 121 people have been taken off the death row list, because of their innocence since 1973, and for every 8 executions, at least one person has been convicted for no reason.Š’Š (Š’ŠInnocenceŠ’Š) Also, death penalty violates human rights. "The death penalty is a denial of the most basic human rights, it violates one of the most fundamental principles under widely accepted human rights law, that states must recognize the right to life." • 13. Pros And Cons Of The Death Penalty Death Penalty The Death Penalty: killing people that kill people to show people that killing people is wrong. Use of the death penalty in the United States has always been controversial. Some people believe that it is a fair system in which criminals pay for the crimes they committed and to prevent future crimes. While others believe that it is a broken system, often punishing innocent civilians to a cruel and inhumane death. Furthermore, the method in which the death penalty is executed is a clear violation of a human rights and is unconstitutional. The costs involve the expenses acquired before and during the trial. It involves a nonstop flow of legal wrangling, appeals and more. ("Death Penalty Pros and Cons.") Carrying out a single death sentence for a criminal costs two to five times more than that putting that same criminal in prison for the rest of his or her life. This is due to the costs, which include, but are not limited to, investigation costs, cost of processing evidence, substantial lawyer fees, amount of trials, number of extensive appeals, substantial security costs, and incarceration costs. Prices also continue to rise after the criminal is sentenced to the death penalty, because it costs more to house death row inmates, who are held in segregated sections, in individual cells, with guards delivering everything to them. Thus, imprisoning criminals for life is tens of millions of dollars cheaper than to execute them. ("Pros & Cons: Death Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Pro Death Penalty Research Paper The death penalty may seem perfectly fine and isn't something you think about often, but first read the arguments for and against, you may just change your mind. Three disadvantages of the death penalty are as follows: it costs taxpayers several times more than to keep a prisoner for life, it violates the "cruel and unusual" punishments in the bill of rights, and sometimes innocent people are put to death. To hold a death row inmate costs $90,000 more per year than to keep a prisoner for life. 130 people have been released from death row because they were innocent. • 15. Pros And Cons Of The Death Penalty Essay Should the death penalty be legal? This simple question sparks a lot of controversy and is the topic of many debates. For countries like China and Saudi Arabia, they say yes. But, for the United States, only about 62% of people agree. A number of execution methods have been used such as firing squad, hanging, electrocution, and most recently, lethal injection. Both Dave Anderson and Robert Blecker are supporters of the death penalty, but they both are not necessarily for the current execution methods available. Nick Gillespie and Jeffrey Toobin are against the death penalty, stating that it is not only immoral, but is expensive and violates the Eighth Amendment. While both sides of this debate provide reasonable arguments, neither side contributes enough to win the debate. Since 1973, 144 people that were on death row have be executed. The supporters of the death penalty believe that by executing "the worst of the worst" will decrease crime, provide substantial punishments, and promote happiness and safety throughout the country. Supporters are trying to find solutions to legalize the death penalty in the United States that is not considered cruel and unusual punishment, while still providing justice for the victims and their families. "Most of the arguments against the death penalty; those of inherent unfairness and bias towards the poor or racial minorities or the devastating potential for mistaken execution are both fallacious and misleading" (Anderson 2016). • 16. Persuasive Essay Pro Death Penalty The death penalty is a form of punishment, which is given to a felon that has committed a major crime and requires for the criminal to be sentenced to death. Capital punishment was a custom of the government and society for thousands of years as a way to "justify" the crimes of felons and is unfortunately is still present in communities around the world. The death penalty is frequently a form of punishment in asian and middle eastern countries and still resides in parts of the USA also. Capital punishment affects many lives including the very criminals who are sentenced to death. Not only is the death penalty an immoral way to pay for a crime, but the very method is inhumane. This punishment is given as a consequence to a person who has committed a major felony and the government feels that the only way to condone the crime is to pay the forfeit of his life. Capital punishment is believed to act like a deterrence to criminals, but according to the US Census in 2006, South Carolina, which inhabits the punishment is number one in violent crime rates, with 766 crimes per every 100,000 people, while the state of Maine that does not have the death penalty ranks 50th in all the states with an outstanding 116 violent crimes per every 100,000 population. In addition, a recent study of the United States top criminologists proved that the death penalty does not deter violent crimes. The study in the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology states that 88% of the US' most prestigious criminologist believed that the death penalty did not prevent homicide and 75% of the experts surveyed agreed that "debates about the death penalty distract Congress and state legislatures from focusing on real solutions to crime problems". This demonstrates that despite the death penalty, crimes are still present and not only does it remain to make an impact on these felonies, it shows that the places without the penalty are much more prosperous with their crime Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Pro-Death Penalty Essay example There are a total of 3,350 inmates currently on death row. These people include all of the main races in America. In 1965 Robert Massie murdered a mother of two in California during a robbery. Mere hours before he was scheduled to be executed. A stay was issued so he could testify, he had found evidence to support his cases and got parole and a second chance. Eight months later he robbed and murdered a businessman in California. This is a obvious that the death penalty should not be abolished, better yet supported in all states. The death penalty will prove to all mentally unstable criminals the horrors of death and will force them to face it eye to eye if they choose to commit the crime. Capital punishment is active in 36 states. 10...show more content... That is a resoundingly low number. That means that if a state declares a execution of the convict it is most likely going to happen. ?The number of innocent people who have been executed have been ZERO?(Elliot, David/Marquis, Joshua). There have also been speculation that if a massacre happens then the convict does not deserve to die? Many have said this is stupid that if someone does that he can be let off with a life sentence. Life sentence is always better than death, so he should be executed. The reason why people have been critical about the death penalty is that maybe the commonly used three drug cocktail is a painful death. The cocktail consists of 3 drugs administered by a needle, the first is meant to incapacitate you then paralyze your muscles then to finally stop the heart. Many are saying this painful. How much more painless can it get. And do the convicts that commit such a horrible crime deserve to be painlessly executed? In China the common execution is one bullet to the back of the dead. In America that is unheard of and if anyone were to propose such a thing they would be considered cruel and twisted. Some of have been exposed to the other forms of executions used in America. One of them is electrocution which is solely used in Nebraska. A story is that a man was to be executed in Florida and a officer noticed that the sponge on the man?s head was torn so they got a new one but the new one was Get more content on HelpWriting.net

"United Stated is one of the six nations that commonly continue with this dramatic scenario" (Human Rights).Debates and political issues have been put into effect to stop this cruel and inhuman punishment. Since early years people have the belief of killing each other to solve their problem; what's the idea of slaughter if pain would not be applicable? They are murderers, and rapists and the like, so they kill. We are Children of God; we haven't the right to kill another soul. That is in the hands of God alone. We have the responsibility to keep these people away from others, and rehabilitate, if possible. That is all. Would any of you push that button?" It's hard to see us pass the law of murder, why should we make the same mistake they did. Many rapes, violations or other situation have been done by people that don't care of life of other or their life, do you think if putting him into the death penalty he would care, it's only a quick pain, they would not care if getting killed.
