2. Some TIPS…
Make a timetable - This is proven to improve performance. Be realistic with your
timetable and don’t overwork (obviously don’t underwork).
Short sessions may suit you better but always reflect on what you’ve learnt. This will
check that you have actually learnt what you have been revising!
Find a place that YOU feel comfortable working in. Just because everyone else is
meeting up to revise somewhere doesn’t mean you have to.
Avoid distractions when you are working – go to the SFC to work!
Comfy chair and suitable desk should be used
Revise in a way that YOU feel comfortable with. If mind maps help you, do them, if
cue cards work, do that! BUT YOU MUST BE DOING MORE THAN JUST READING AND
RE-WRITING – try summarising content, one page summaries, etc.
If you are unsure of anything then ask your teachers and tutor for help.
Eat well, sleep well and keep hydrated.
Be positive, if you revise fully then you should feel ready for your exam. Believe in
yourself.
Be prepared for your exams, check the night before that you have everything you
need for the following day.
Arrive early for your exam. Being late or ‘cutting it fine’ will only make you more
anxious.
3. The GOAL
Write in your BENCHMARK and OWN TARGET grades for each subject. Note that your OWN TARGET
GRADES should be in line with your likely university requirements.

4. Self EVALUATION
Identify your key areas of weakness and what you need to work on to improve. This should
be based on your own evaluation and the feedback from your teachers.

5. REVISION TIPS
First you have to read your notes. BUT THIS IS NOT ENOUGH! Try some of the following…
1. Make Bullet points (of the main points) from within a body of text
2. Summarise your notes you read through your text book etc. After every paragraph?
3. Draw mind maps, charts or storyboards.
4. Write key words and definitions and refer to them in your answers.
5. Write a one page summary at the end of each topic and read it to yourself.
6. Complete past questions and past papers with and without your textbook. Always check
the mark scheme. Do this under timed conditions when you get closer to the exam.
7. Redo prep questions you have been set throughout the year.
8. Make mini posters that include key words and place them around your workspace.
9. Record yourself reading then play it back. You could then make notes as you read for
example.
10. Teach someone else what you have been revising.
11. Try to know ‘something about everything’. Even if it’s just a few points; this could help
you develop an answer.
12. COMPLETE A REVISION PLAN – GIVE YOURSELF GOALS! USE THE TIMETABLES ON THE
FOLLOWING PAGES (you can download more from the sixth form facebook page). Make
these specific – don’t just say you will (for e.g.) revise ‘psychology’; say which specific
topic area you are going to revise.
13. But remember, be REALISTIC!!!
ALWAYS ASK YOUR TEACHERS IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF SOMETHING.
