2. A medical doctor and college professor, Dr.
Paul Barach has taught at the University of
South Florida in Tampa since 2004. Over the
course of his career, a number of respected
healthcare organizations have asked him to
sit on a variety of review boards, policy and
examination panels. In 2006, Dr. Paul
Barach was selected to judge candidates
for the National Quality Healthcare Award
and the Baldrige national quality award.
3. Sponsored by the National Quality
Forum, the National Quality Healthcare
Award recognizes healthcare
organizations that have demonstrated
an outstanding commitment to quality
service. Each year since 1993, panels of
experts have been assembled to assess
candidates for this annual honor.
4. Judges for the National Quality Healthcare
Award consist of lead professionals from the
fields of medical purchasing, government
oversight, and healthcare administration. In
addition to professionals from these fields,
judging panels typically include several
clinicians and consumer advocates. In 2012,
the National Quality Healthcare Award judging
panel featured the associate director of the
Consumer-Purchaser Disclosure Project, Tanya
Alteras, and the vice president of quality and
chief medical officer for Atlantic Health
Systems, Dr. Donald Casey, Jr.
