Why Gay Marriage Should Be Legal
There are more than eight million people in the United States that are in the LGBT, which stands for (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender)
community. All of those people want to marry who they want and have the same rights as anyone else. Gay marriage rights should be legal because it
will make LGBT families more stable, create a non–discriminated society, and more children could be adopted.
The first reason it should be legal is that it will make LGBT families more stable. Children raised by same–sex parents had fewer social problems than
heterosexual raised children. This proves that same–sex parents are just as capable as heterosexual parents. Same–sex families are usually made by
either adoption or surrogacy. It ends up costing tons of money, but to them it is worth it. For them to take a child who has no one to care for them is
amazing....show more content...
Eventually it will bring down the high rate of hatred in the world. Gay marriage rights could change how people look and treat one another. We hope
that one–day no one will judge one another based on their religion, race, or even life choices. The LGBT community is discriminated against every
day for just being themselves. All people should be able to express themselves however they want without judgment. The last reason gay marriage
rights will change is letting more kids be adopted into loving homes. Many children do not get adopted for, there are not enough people in the world
to care for them. A while ago, states kept gay men and women from adopting and fostering children. Even now many states still keep children away
from same–sex couples, and continue to say they must be married to adopt or foster children. It is unfair to withhold children from loving families
who can take care of them. The United States has 115,000 children that are waiting to be adopted and

Gay Marriage: Why Should We Legalize It? Essay
Gay Marriage: Why Should We Legalize It? Gay marriage tends to spark many different opinions in the hearts and minds of the citizens of this great
nation. This political issue is usually one that would spark a heated debate between even the closest of friends. The subject description typically
spurs intense hatred and anger, even. You would more than likely witness numerous signs picketing this issue whether it may be a revised Bible
quote deeming it a sin or a sign decked out in the many colors of the rainbow which is the universal flag for gays. I propose that gay marriage should be
legalized because nontraditional couples should have just as many rights and privileges as traditional couples and the legalization of it is not...show

Most marriages in this country end in divorce for various reasons; traditional couples merely do not deem marriage sacred. By keeping gay marriage
banned, it does not help in saving a sinking ship. It simply can not help or hurt the fragility of the institution of marriage. "Marriage is for everyone –
no exceptions, no exclusions" (Rauch 6). Some traditional couples do not even marry for the sake of love; same–sex couples should have the option
because they want to marry for love. Marriage should not be limited to just a man and woman; it should be between love and love. Most opponents of
gay marriage state that legalizing gay marriage will redefine the definition of marriage. Opponents are simply attempting to emphasize the importance
of traditional marriage over nontraditional marriage. Although this is not directly stated, a person can read between the lines to conclude that this is the
real reason behind the opposition. The banning of gay marriage is alienating the homosexual citizens of this country from the rest of the population.
The government has attempted to make the citizens believe that everyone has the same rights and opportunities but this is just not true. When
same–sex couples are unable to join in a legal partnership, the government is contradicting itself by attempting to rewrite the Constitution to fit their
own hidden agenda. The majority of the

Gay marriage has and still is a huge controversy in the United States. I will say though that the U.S. has come along way when it comes to same–sex
marriage. As of November 20, 2014 gay marriage is now legal in thirty–five of the fifty U.S. states. Massachusetts was the first state to legalize
same–sex marriage in May of two thousand and four. As of October ninth two–thousand and fourteen, only sixteen out of one hundred and ninety–four
countries allow same sex marriage. By those odds I would say that the U.S. is actually doing pretty well at accepting gay marriage. My question is
then why can 't Congress change the Federal Marriage Amendment now with out causing a million problems. So I decided to dig further into the
history of gay marriage before looking at the proponents and opponents of legalizing gay marriage. It has been said that gay rights and gay right
movements are traced back to the Stonewall Riots. The riot occurred at Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28, 1969 after a police raid at a gay
bar–and note that at this time it was illegal to even have a homo–sexual relationship at all except in Illinois–. As a result of this riot the number of gay
organizations in the country sky rocketed. The numbers went from a small fifty something to thousands all in a span of four to five years. Shortly after
that in nineteen seventy–three the gay liberation movement

Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized? Essay
Marriage is defined as the state of being a married couple voluntarily joined for life. In the definition it says couple, with out indication of gender. In
our society gay marriage is a hot topic. Previously legalizing gay marriage was out of the question, but as times has changed and more liberal
politicians have gained office to reflect the views of today's society. One of the reasons that LGBT people fight for the right to marry because married
couples receive more protections and advantages in the law and insurance polices. Some see marriage as sign of commitment and life long commitment
to each other. No matter what the reason gay marriage should be legalized because it is a human right to marry whomever someone loves or at the very

They also celebrated homosexuality and sung of its praises. Therefore homosexuality is not new but the hatred towards it is.
By legalizing gay marriage we are only taking a huge step forward in human rights. Marriage it self is a human right and by limiting it to someone
of the opposite sex we are limiting ourselves in society. Marriage today is an expression of love, and why are we limiting people's expression of
love? What do we gain from this? We as humans have no right to tell someone who they love or what they can do with one another. Marriage WAS
for procreation but in 2007 40 percent of children were born out of wedlock. Furthermore that number is increasing as we speak. The mindset of
marriage has changed so should our laws.
There are many arguments against homosexuality, but they are easily disproved.
1.Homosexuality is wrong because the bible say so.
Our first amendment right gives us the freedom of religion, therefore not everybody believes in the bible. Also the bible is notorious for using abstract
and ambiguous language
2.It could morally corrupt our society.
The US isn't the first country where gay marriage has been legalized.
In conclusion, the definition of marriage has changed over the years; as the definition changed homosexuality has became more visible to the word.
Marriage is now shown as a sign of love and Commitment towards one another. Morals change as time goes on and only

Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized?
Should gay marriage be legalized?
Gay marriage has been a very controversial topic since the 1800's. Throughout history, our nation has dealt with this problem in hopes of finally
resolving it. Today, gay marriage is legalized, but some states still disagree with the idea of gay marriage, and believe that it should be banned across
all fifty states. Although some may say that gay marriage is immoral, and "wrong" for numerous reasons, love should not be discriminated. Others
should respect a person's decisions, and people should not be able to tell others who they can and cannot love in life. Thus, gay marriage should be
legalized because marriage is not only for procreation, to marry is a right, and gay couples make great parents.
One reason gay marriage should be legal is because the sole purpose of marriage is not only for procreation. According to a 2010 pew research
center survey, it states, "In a 2010 Pew Research Center survey, both married and unmarried people rated love, commitment, and companionship
higher than having children as "very important"" This proves that marriage is not only for procreation because most would agree that the main
purpose of marriage is to join two people together, no matter what age, race, or sex they may be. This is also proved everyday when infertile couples
get married, because if the sole purpose of marriage was for having children, then there would be restrictions on infertile couples from getting married.

Should Same Sex Marriage Be Legalized? Essay
Over the past couple of years, one major argument that people talk about constantly is legalizing same sex marriage. Since same sex marriage has
become a popular topic that everyone has to deal with, it has provoked many problems around the world. People have different aspects stating that gay
marriage has pros and cons. Fortunately, even though everyone constantly can not stop talking about gay marriage, it keeps spreading throughout the
world and causes more problems day after day. In an article titled Supreme Court rules in Favor of Same–Sex Marriage Nationwide, it talks about how
great of an idea it is to legalize same sex marriage while listing specific details proving why people should agree with allowing this to become a topic
that is okay. This disagreement has caused debates throughout the world. The whole idea of same sex marriage and gays is not okay because of the
privileges it takes away from the society and world.
The first point that this article states is equal dignity in the eyes of law. This topic is about how people who are gay are equal to the people who are
straight. No matter what their choices or beliefs are, citizens are all equal in their own way as the article says. Equality is one of the strongest points
that others use when there is a disagreement over this subject. Justice Kennedy was one man who announced a statement dealing about same sex
couples and how they should be able to marry in all states. Declaring that gay marriage is perfectly okay

debate on wether gay marriage should be legalized or not has stirred for a while now. However, the Supreme Court ruled in late June that same–sex

because it's agianst their religion, or they don't think it's natural. I am not one of those people. I believe that it was right for gay marriage to be legalized,

Gay Marriage Should be Legalized Essays
There are numerous opinions and standing views on gay marriage. The argument regarding gay marriage should be legalized or not is extremely
controversial. According to an article from the Human Rights Campaign, there is nothing wrong with allowing homosexuals to have the same rights as
those who are heterosexual. Every individual person should be granted equal rights, regardless of sexuality. Gay marriage should be legalized in all
states and countries, it has been held off for too long. Moreover, there are several reasons why homosexuals feel strongly about wanting to be legally
married. One reason that is most commonly heard is, they want to legally show their love for each other by having a marriage license. Homosexuals

If they are denied these rights due to the fact they are not married, they can never get the chance to receive these advantages since they cannot wed.
No matter how this is looked at, it is not right in any way at all. Especially if the two people in the same–sex relationship have been together for a long
time, they should be able to receive these rights as well as heterosexual married couples. However, people may argue that there are other ways for
same–sex couples to be legally tied together. This would be by going through a civil union. This is true but, a civil union is hardly the same as a
wedding, "comparing marriage to civil unions is a bit like comparing diamonds to rhinestones" (91). Couples who do a civil union have to do it in
Vermont and stay there. There is also no guarantee that protections will go where the couple travels to (90). With that being said, even though there
is a way for them to get "legally" tied together, it is not the same. They still do not have the freedom they want or the choice to go where they want to
have a civil union. Civil unions are great temporarily or as another option but, all in all it does not replace an actual marriage. Gay marriages should
be allowed to those that wish for one. In addition, same–sex couples may want to get married for many reasons but, there are several valid points as to
why they should be allowed. It is not just based on wanting to be able to wed but, why they actually should get the

Gay Marriage Should Be Legalized
Most people believe that they deserve the rights they are granted by the government. An upstanding citizen who pays their taxes, serves their
community and abides by the law should be afforded the rights of an American. However, not all citizens are afforded equal rights. Gay and lesbians
are consistently denied rights that are typically taken for granted by the average American. Specifically, gay and lesbians couples are denied the right
to marry even if they are upstanding citizens. They are held at an unfair disadvantage solely because of their sexual orientation. This discrimination
must stop because gay and lesbian couples are law–abiding citizens too, who should be afforded the same rights as heterosexual couples. One common
problem that plagues gay and lesbian couples that are denied the right to marry is their inability to claim their partner's social security after he or she
has died. The Human Rights Campaign, which work to achieve equal rights for lesbian, gay, bi–sexual and transgender people, is supporting the effort
to attain survivor benefits for domesticate partners. They believe, "Any alteration to the Social Security system must include partners of gays and
lesbians in its definition of survivor"(Survivor Benefits 1). Currently, there are no programs that give homosexuals survivor benefits like the ones that
are provided for heterosexuals who are married or divorced. Gay and lesbian partners are not able to claim benefits of their deceased,

Name: Tutor: Course: Date: Gay Marriages Marriage is considered as hypothetically speaking, a rite of passage whilst from the religious point of
view, it is considered as holy matrimony before a supreme being. Attraction between individuals of the same sex has been a topic of debate since
time immemorial. However, over the past few years gay individuals have opted to air grievances of oppression despite receiving tremendous critics
from the public. Initially, gay marriages were unfathomable events to the mere mind and culminated in the rise of heated debates between the
supporters and critics among the church being at the forefront. However, times are different now, and gays are becoming more accepted in the
society as well as all that pertains to daily lives such as marriage, gay events just to mention but a few. This argumentative essay focuses on the central
issues of gay marriage and evaluating arguments on whether the gay marriage should be legalized. During medieval times, gay people were loathed
and were considered as immoral. Researchers plunged into carrying out studies based on mental functioning all in an effort to determine the cause of
affective dysfunction. In the process, critics posed an argument that gay behaviors were learned, hence being gay is an acquired behavior. However,
this critics was overthrown by the fact research revealed that the main problem was in the effective functioning of the individual hence making the
behavior naturally acquired. The

Homosexual Marriage Should Be Legal Essay
Homosexual marriage should be legal because marriage is a symbol of love and passion for one another, the homosexual family life is just as good as
heterosexual family life, and prohibiting gay marriage is unconstitutional discrimination. Homosexuality occurs in over four hundred and fifty species,
but homophobia (irrational fear or dislike against homosexuality) only occurs in one. (Gay Marriage Research Paper) We live in the "land of the free,"
but we still have laws that ban marriage of homosexual couples. They need rights to get marries without outing labels on it like "civil union," or "gay
marriage." (Gay Pursuasive Essay) Over thirty–eight percent of the United States population has the freedom to marry, or honors out of state...show

Therefore, marriage is considered an important aspect of culture and community, and such a right is not granted without serious consideration.
Homosexual couples experience discrimination on not only the personal level but the legal level as well. (Rich & Wagner) The human rights campaign
foundation states that many same sex couples want the right to marry, and the rights to have others honor their relationship in the greatest way our
society has to offer. (ProCon.org) With this still in mind, I bring a point that is most often overlooked; children living with homosexual families.
According to the two thousand United States census, about twenty–eight percent of homosexual homes have children living with them. In the book
Gay Marriage, Moral Wrong or Civil Right, social scientists Peter Swisher, and Nancy Cook N.D. gave a statement about children living with
homosexual parents:
A substantial number of recent empirical studies in social science research show that there are no significant differences between children raised by
homosexual parents and heterosexual couples.
Furthermore, a review of studies by the American Psychological Association found that children raised by homosexual parents are not disadvantaged in
any significant respect relative to the children of heterosexual parents. In addition, the American Psychoanalytic Association, the National Association

Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized?
Everyone, regardless of gender orientation or sexual preference deserves equal rights, such as marriage, feeling comfortable with whom they are,
and being treated like any other human being. Right now gay marriage is a hot topic in many states, however, what say should the government get
in who you love and want to marry? Beyond a court room, research has been done on the idea of transgenderism and what causes people to be like
that or if people are truly born in the wrong body. The people who are considered "abnormal" in society actually proactively protest for equal rights
for themselves. Truly though, they are still human and should not have to fight to get married or be lab rats in a scientific study. Gaymarriage has come
into a spot light in the past few years. Currently only 17 of the 50 states allow same–sex marriage in the United States (ProConorg Headlines). 33
states still have a ban on same sex marriage within state limits (NCSL). Massachusetts is currently one of the states that allow marriage between 2
people of the same gender (Law Libraries). A poll taken in Massachusetts stated that 85% of people said that it had positive or no impact (NBC News
Digital). This means that 2 people of the same gender who get married really has no effect on the
public in a whole, which means that the government should not be making a big deal of something that has such a little impact on the public. In the

Legalizing Gay Marriage
Should Gay Marriage be Legalized in All States? "Marriage isn't between a man and woman, but between love and love." Gay marriage should be
legalized in every state because homosexuals deserve the same equal rights as heterosexuals. Nobody should be told who they can and cannot marry.
Everyone deserves a chance to be happy and not legalizing marriage is taking that opportunity away from homosexuals who want to get married. Like
freedom of religion, there should be freedom of marriage. Having the ability to practice whichever region best suits you without someone judging you
or without the government saying you have to practice a certain religion is freedom. Not being able to marry someone you love because the
government thinks it violates natural law is discrimination. If we aren't able to discriminate against race what makes it acceptable to discriminate
against homosexuals? Equality is a right that is protected by the United States Constitution and it needs to be enforced with gay marriage. Homosexuals

who says you need a mother and father? There may be things that a mother can teach that a father cannot or the opposite but people do it every day.

Gay Marriage Should Be Legalized
Gay marriage is in fact a controversial topic that many people feel strongly about. I believe that gay marriage should be legalized without being
penalized by people who disagree with it. I will, within reason, explain to you why gay marriage should be legalized and argue against Karlee's essay
about why gay marriage shouldn't be legalized.
The first thing Karlee talks about in her opposing essay is, "Children of same–sex couples, biological or not, need both a mother and a father in their
life." In an article on Sciencedaily.com, Do Children Need Both A Mother and A Father? it mentions that, "...there is almost no social science research
to support this claim." Another great point it includes is, "...the researchers found no evidence of gender–biased parenting abilities... noting that very
little about the gender of the parent has significance for children's psychological adjustment and social success." As said in the article, children with
same–sex parents "do as well on average as children raised..:" by opposite gender parents. Another thing I will point out in Karlee's paper is the
statement she mentioned, "Those children will hunger for a mother like figure and a father–like figure." Although that may be true, if one were to ask a
kid, would you trade your parents? Their immediate reaction would be normal because no matter the gender, parents are parents. Children will love
their parents, they've been there for them through everything, no matter what.

Should same sex marriages be legal?
Same–sex marriages have been very controversial since becoming an issue in Canada regarding the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Several
people state that same–sex marriages should be legal, while others disagree, saying it should not be permitted. There have been many debates and
inquiries about this issue for several years; the MP's and Parliament will finally settle the problem within the next year or so. Many are in favour of

The freedom to express yourself is the way a person gains their individuality. If the government seizes that liberty, individuality is being taken away
from the world. If same–sex marriages are prohibited, section 2B of the fundamental rights will be infringed as well as the individuality of a person.
Discrimination concerns have also become a problem regarding the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In the past, homosexuals were discriminated and
penalized for their sexual orientation. They were murdered in the early twentieth century and then later on imprisoned as time passed. Discrimination
also arose if employers discovered of their employees homosexual orientation, which caused them to lose their employment. The equality rights have
also been violated concerning marriage benefits and the definition as well – (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to
the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic
origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability. Before the definition of marriage was changed, homosexuals were not included under
the law stating marriage as the union between a man and a woman. The government found it unconstitutional and changed it so it would correspond to
the changes in the twenty–first century and reflect Canadian society in the present stating that marriage is a civil act

Gay Marriage Should Be Legal Essay
In every time period throughout history and every region of the world there has always been a stigma as to what it means to be a gay man – even if
that is not the language that always would be used to describe homosexual behavior in a given place and time. In the United States, gay marriage has
been legalized in all 50 states by a federal court ruling, but many Americans do not realize that there is still a long way to go in terms of embracing gay
citizens (and the rest of the LGBT community) into the " societal norm." Despite the strides that have been taken to legalize marriage for same sex
couples, there are many states where discrimination is still legal. LGBT people can be denied housing, work, and even service and are also not legally
protected from discrimination in the education system in many states today.
LGBT issues came into the spotlight in San Francisco in the 1970s, as Richard Rodriguez puts it in his essay "Late Victorians," when the private
lives of gays and lesbians where starting to enter to the public sphere (Rodriguez 57). LGBT people, especially gay men, from all over the country
were migrating to blossoming gay neighborhoods in San Francisco like the Castro. This growing phenomenon led to the birth of gay culture and how
we define it today, and assisted in creating an identity for the gay community.
This identity that the gay community was formulating during this time period was largely based on a superficial façade. Gay men in San Francisco

Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized? Essay
Introduction What does it mean to be gay and why does society discriminate against those who are deemed to be gay? This paper establishes that
being gay is primarily based on the supposition that one is either homosexual, transgender, lesbian, or bisexual. It also establishes that one of the
primary reasons why gays are discriminated against within the society is religion; that some of the views held by different religious conclaves
substantiate gay rejection by the society. On a more personal rather than institutional level, this paper also reveals that the culture of gay is also largely
rebuked based on individual philosophies and moral standings which is precisely the min reason as to why hate crimes against gays have in the past
found a substantive projection. In the American socio–cultural fabric, the emergence of gays has generated a continuous debate about gay marriage;
essentially whether it should be legalized or not. The debate has pitted religion verses gay rights activists who base their arguments on the equal rights
protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution. In conclusion, this paper will elaborate on some of the some of the states that
have inherently legalized gay marriage, the projection of the issue five years from today, and how society can assist in making the world a better place
for gays.
Background on Homosexuality For purposes of coherence, the word gay will be periodically interchanged with the phrase homosexual. To

Same–Sex Marriage Should Not Be Legalized.
As we know, same–sex marriage has been discussed and argued for a long time. Within the controversial topic of gay rights, there's no area more
controversial than same–sex marriage. And all of us ask ourselves if same–sex marriage should be legal or not. But the fact is that we have to start
thinking about it as a moral and religious topic. The government shouldn't legalize the same–sex marriage because the...show more content...
Therefore, same–sex marriage is totally the opposite of the traditional institution of marriage; those are two things that cannot have the same rights, and
actually God made us to be heterosexual no homosexual.
In addition, marriage is a religious rite. "Gay marriage is not compatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups"
(ProCon.org, 2011, Con Gay Marriage, В¶4). In fact, we know that most of the religions are opposing same–sex marriage, because they are always
guided by the Bible and God's commandments and his teachings. "Marriage was established by the Creator with its own nature, essential properties
and purpose. No ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainty that marriage exists solely between a man and a woman" (ProCon.org, 2011,
Con Gay Marriage, В¶12). If same–sex is legalized, churches and other religious institutions would be forced to change their rules in order to marry
same–sex marriage couples.
Furthermore, one of the biggest problems for society and probably the most important for new generations is that same–sex marriage would be that
those couples will be able to adopt children if they are given the right to marry. "The institution of marriage as a union of man and woman, uniquely
involving the procreation and rearing of children within a family, is as old as

Why Gay Marriage Should Be Legal

  • 1. Why Gay Marriage Should Be Legal There are more than eight million people in the United States that are in the LGBT, which stands for (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community. All of those people want to marry who they want and have the same rights as anyone else. Gay marriage rights should be legal because it will make LGBT families more stable, create a non–discriminated society, and more children could be adopted. The first reason it should be legal is that it will make LGBT families more stable. Children raised by same–sex parents had fewer social problems than heterosexual raised children. This proves that same–sex parents are just as capable as heterosexual parents. Same–sex families are usually made by either adoption or surrogacy. It ends up costing tons of money, but to them it is worth it. For them to take a child who has no one to care for them is amazing....show more content... Eventually it will bring down the high rate of hatred in the world. Gay marriage rights could change how people look and treat one another. We hope that one–day no one will judge one another based on their religion, race, or even life choices. The LGBT community is discriminated against every day for just being themselves. All people should be able to express themselves however they want without judgment. The last reason gay marriage rights will change is letting more kids be adopted into loving homes. Many children do not get adopted for, there are not enough people in the world to care for them. A while ago, states kept gay men and women from adopting and fostering children. Even now many states still keep children away from same–sex couples, and continue to say they must be married to adopt or foster children. It is unfair to withhold children from loving families who can take care of them. The United States has 115,000 children that are waiting to be adopted and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Gay Marriage: Why Should We Legalize It? Essay Gay Marriage: Why Should We Legalize It? Gay marriage tends to spark many different opinions in the hearts and minds of the citizens of this great nation. This political issue is usually one that would spark a heated debate between even the closest of friends. The subject description typically spurs intense hatred and anger, even. You would more than likely witness numerous signs picketing this issue whether it may be a revised Bible quote deeming it a sin or a sign decked out in the many colors of the rainbow which is the universal flag for gays. I propose that gay marriage should be legalized because nontraditional couples should have just as many rights and privileges as traditional couples and the legalization of it is not...show more content... Most marriages in this country end in divorce for various reasons; traditional couples merely do not deem marriage sacred. By keeping gay marriage banned, it does not help in saving a sinking ship. It simply can not help or hurt the fragility of the institution of marriage. "Marriage is for everyone – no exceptions, no exclusions" (Rauch 6). Some traditional couples do not even marry for the sake of love; same–sex couples should have the option because they want to marry for love. Marriage should not be limited to just a man and woman; it should be between love and love. Most opponents of gay marriage state that legalizing gay marriage will redefine the definition of marriage. Opponents are simply attempting to emphasize the importance of traditional marriage over nontraditional marriage. Although this is not directly stated, a person can read between the lines to conclude that this is the real reason behind the opposition. The banning of gay marriage is alienating the homosexual citizens of this country from the rest of the population. The government has attempted to make the citizens believe that everyone has the same rights and opportunities but this is just not true. When same–sex couples are unable to join in a legal partnership, the government is contradicting itself by attempting to rewrite the Constitution to fit their own hidden agenda. • 3. Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized? Megan Miner December 10, 2014 Political Science 1100 Period 4 Tooele B Research Paper Option 1 Gay marriage has and still is a huge controversy in the United States. I will say though that the U.S. has come along way when it comes to same–sex marriage. As of November 20, 2014 gay marriage is now legal in thirty–five of the fifty U.S. states. Massachusetts was the first state to legalize same–sex marriage in May of two thousand and four. As of October ninth two–thousand and fourteen, only sixteen out of one hundred and ninety–four countries allow same sex marriage. By those odds I would say that the U.S. is actually doing pretty well at accepting gay marriage. My question is then why can 't Congress change the Federal Marriage Amendment now with out causing a million problems. So I decided to dig further into the history of gay marriage before looking at the proponents and opponents of legalizing gay marriage. It has been said that gay rights and gay right movements are traced back to the Stonewall Riots. The riot occurred at Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28, 1969 after a police raid at a gay bar–and note that at this time it was illegal to even have a homo–sexual relationship at all except in Illinois–. As a result of this riot the number of gay organizations in the country sky rocketed. The numbers went from a small fifty something to thousands all in a span of four to five years. Shortly after that in nineteen seventy–three the gay liberation movement Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized? Essay Marriage is defined as the state of being a married couple voluntarily joined for life. In the definition it says couple, with out indication of gender. In our society gay marriage is a hot topic. Previously legalizing gay marriage was out of the question, but as times has changed and more liberal politicians have gained office to reflect the views of today's society. One of the reasons that LGBT people fight for the right to marry because married couples receive more protections and advantages in the law and insurance polices. Some see marriage as sign of commitment and life long commitment to each other. No matter what the reason gay marriage should be legalized because it is a human right to marry whomever someone loves or at the very ...show more content... They also celebrated homosexuality and sung of its praises. Therefore homosexuality is not new but the hatred towards it is. By legalizing gay marriage we are only taking a huge step forward in human rights. Marriage it self is a human right and by limiting it to someone of the opposite sex we are limiting ourselves in society. Marriage today is an expression of love, and why are we limiting people's expression of love? What do we gain from this? We as humans have no right to tell someone who they love or what they can do with one another. Marriage WAS for procreation but in 2007 40 percent of children were born out of wedlock. Furthermore that number is increasing as we speak. The mindset of marriage has changed so should our laws. There are many arguments against homosexuality, but they are easily disproved. 1.Homosexuality is wrong because the bible say so. Our first amendment right gives us the freedom of religion, therefore not everybody believes in the bible. Also the bible is notorious for using abstract and ambiguous language 2.It could morally corrupt our society. The US isn't the first country where gay marriage has been legalized. In conclusion, the definition of marriage has changed over the years; as the definition changed homosexuality has became more visible to the word. Marriage is now shown as a sign of love and Commitment towards one another. Morals change as time goes on and only

  • 6. Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized? Should gay marriage be legalized? Gay marriage has been a very controversial topic since the 1800's. Throughout history, our nation has dealt with this problem in hopes of finally resolving it. Today, gay marriage is legalized, but some states still disagree with the idea of gay marriage, and believe that it should be banned across all fifty states. Although some may say that gay marriage is immoral, and "wrong" for numerous reasons, love should not be discriminated. Others should respect a person's decisions, and people should not be able to tell others who they can and cannot love in life. Thus, gay marriage should be legalized because marriage is not only for procreation, to marry is a right, and gay couples make great parents. One reason gay marriage should be legal is because the sole purpose of marriage is not only for procreation. According to a 2010 pew research center survey, it states, "In a 2010 Pew Research Center survey, both married and unmarried people rated love, commitment, and companionship higher than having children as "very important"" This proves that marriage is not only for procreation because most would agree that the main purpose of marriage is to join two people together, no matter what age, race, or sex they may be. This is also proved everyday when infertile couples get married, because if the sole purpose of marriage was for having children, then there would be restrictions on infertile couples from getting married. • 7. Should Same Sex Marriage Be Legalized? Essay Over the past couple of years, one major argument that people talk about constantly is legalizing same sex marriage. Since same sex marriage has become a popular topic that everyone has to deal with, it has provoked many problems around the world. People have different aspects stating that gay marriage has pros and cons. Fortunately, even though everyone constantly can not stop talking about gay marriage, it keeps spreading throughout the world and causes more problems day after day. In an article titled Supreme Court rules in Favor of Same–Sex Marriage Nationwide, it talks about how great of an idea it is to legalize same sex marriage while listing specific details proving why people should agree with allowing this to become a topic that is okay. This disagreement has caused debates throughout the world. The whole idea of same sex marriage and gays is not okay because of the privileges it takes away from the society and world. The first point that this article states is equal dignity in the eyes of law. This topic is about how people who are gay are equal to the people who are straight. No matter what their choices or beliefs are, citizens are all equal in their own way as the article says. Equality is one of the strongest points that others use when there is a disagreement over this subject. Justice Kennedy was one man who announced a statement dealing about same sex couples and how they should be able to marry in all states. Declaring that gay marriage is perfectly okay Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Marriage is usually defined as the formal union between a man and a woman. That definition may need some adjustments though. The nation wide debate on wether gay marriage should be legalized or not has stirred for a while now. However, the Supreme Court ruled in late June that same–sex marriage is now perfectly legal. Ever since this ruling there have many people who are outraged with the Supreme Court's decision. Usually, it is because it's agianst their religion, or they don't think it's natural. I am not one of those people. I believe that it was right for gay marriage to be legalized, because same–sex couples should have the same rights as heterosexual couples, gay marriage has already become a reality, and gay marriage does not affect heterosexual couples....show more content... Just like how African Americans should have the same rights as whites, and women should have the same rights as men. Denying someone that right is discriminatory. "The right to marrry is a fundemental right inherent in the liberty of the person, couples of the same–sex may not be deprives of that right and that liberty." (The Editorial Board) Even our president believes in same–sex marriage, in 2012 when discussing the topic he said, "When all all Americans are treated as equal, we all are more free." (The Editorial Board) Other people usually ask, "why should gay couples have the right to marry? However the question should be, why should other people decide who marries who? • 9. Gay Marriage Should be Legalized Essays There are numerous opinions and standing views on gay marriage. The argument regarding gay marriage should be legalized or not is extremely controversial. According to an article from the Human Rights Campaign, there is nothing wrong with allowing homosexuals to have the same rights as those who are heterosexual. Every individual person should be granted equal rights, regardless of sexuality. Gay marriage should be legalized in all states and countries, it has been held off for too long. Moreover, there are several reasons why homosexuals feel strongly about wanting to be legally married. One reason that is most commonly heard is, they want to legally show their love for each other by having a marriage license. Homosexuals want the...show more content... If they are denied these rights due to the fact they are not married, they can never get the chance to receive these advantages since they cannot wed. No matter how this is looked at, it is not right in any way at all. Especially if the two people in the same–sex relationship have been together for a long time, they should be able to receive these rights as well as heterosexual married couples. However, people may argue that there are other ways for same–sex couples to be legally tied together. This would be by going through a civil union. This is true but, a civil union is hardly the same as a wedding, "comparing marriage to civil unions is a bit like comparing diamonds to rhinestones" (91). Couples who do a civil union have to do it in Vermont and stay there. There is also no guarantee that protections will go where the couple travels to (90). With that being said, even though there is a way for them to get "legally" tied together, it is not the same. They still do not have the freedom they want or the choice to go where they want to have a civil union. Civil unions are great temporarily or as another option but, all in all it does not replace an actual marriage. Gay marriages should be allowed to those that wish for one. In addition, same–sex couples may want to get married for many reasons but, there are several valid points as to why they should be allowed. It is not just based on wanting to be able to wed but, why they actually should get the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Gay Marriage Should Be Legalized Most people believe that they deserve the rights they are granted by the government. An upstanding citizen who pays their taxes, serves their community and abides by the law should be afforded the rights of an American. However, not all citizens are afforded equal rights. Gay and lesbians are consistently denied rights that are typically taken for granted by the average American. Specifically, gay and lesbians couples are denied the right to marry even if they are upstanding citizens. They are held at an unfair disadvantage solely because of their sexual orientation. This discrimination must stop because gay and lesbian couples are law–abiding citizens too, who should be afforded the same rights as heterosexual couples. One common problem that plagues gay and lesbian couples that are denied the right to marry is their inability to claim their partner's social security after he or she has died. The Human Rights Campaign, which work to achieve equal rights for lesbian, gay, bi–sexual and transgender people, is supporting the effort to attain survivor benefits for domesticate partners. They believe, "Any alteration to the Social Security system must include partners of gays and lesbians in its definition of survivor"(Survivor Benefits 1). Currently, there are no programs that give homosexuals survivor benefits like the ones that are provided for heterosexuals who are married or divorced. Gay and lesbian partners are not able to claim benefits of their deceased, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Gay Marriage Should Be Legalized Name: Tutor: Course: Date: Gay Marriages Marriage is considered as hypothetically speaking, a rite of passage whilst from the religious point of view, it is considered as holy matrimony before a supreme being. Attraction between individuals of the same sex has been a topic of debate since time immemorial. However, over the past few years gay individuals have opted to air grievances of oppression despite receiving tremendous critics from the public. Initially, gay marriages were unfathomable events to the mere mind and culminated in the rise of heated debates between the supporters and critics among the church being at the forefront. However, times are different now, and gays are becoming more accepted in the society as well as all that pertains to daily lives such as marriage, gay events just to mention but a few. This argumentative essay focuses on the central issues of gay marriage and evaluating arguments on whether the gay marriage should be legalized. During medieval times, gay people were loathed and were considered as immoral. Researchers plunged into carrying out studies based on mental functioning all in an effort to determine the cause of affective dysfunction. In the process, critics posed an argument that gay behaviors were learned, hence being gay is an acquired behavior. However, this critics was overthrown by the fact research revealed that the main problem was in the effective functioning of the individual hence making the behavior naturally acquired. • 12. Homosexual Marriage Should Be Legal Essay Homosexual marriage should be legal because marriage is a symbol of love and passion for one another, the homosexual family life is just as good as heterosexual family life, and prohibiting gay marriage is unconstitutional discrimination. Homosexuality occurs in over four hundred and fifty species, but homophobia (irrational fear or dislike against homosexuality) only occurs in one. (Gay Marriage Research Paper) We live in the "land of the free," but we still have laws that ban marriage of homosexual couples. They need rights to get marries without outing labels on it like "civil union," or "gay marriage." (Rich & Wagner) The human rights campaign foundation states that many same sex couples want the right to marry, and the rights to have others honor their relationship in the greatest way our society has to offer. (ProCon.org) With this still in mind, I bring a point that is most often overlooked; children living with homosexual families. According to the two thousand United States census, about twenty–eight percent of homosexual homes have children living with them. In the book Gay Marriage, Moral Wrong or Civil Right, social scientists Peter Swisher, and Nancy Cook N.D. gave a statement about children living with homosexual parents: A substantial number of recent empirical studies in social science research show that there are no significant differences between children raised by homosexual parents and heterosexual couples. Furthermore, a review of studies by the American Psychological Association found that children raised by homosexual parents are not disadvantaged in any significant respect relative to the children of heterosexual parents. In addition, the American Psychoanalytic Association, the National Association of Social Workers, the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized? Everyone, regardless of gender orientation or sexual preference deserves equal rights, such as marriage, feeling comfortable with whom they are, and being treated like any other human being. Right now gay marriage is a hot topic in many states, however, what say should the government get in who you love and want to marry? Beyond a court room, research has been done on the idea of transgenderism and what causes people to be like that or if people are truly born in the wrong body. The people who are considered "abnormal" in society actually proactively protest for equal rights for themselves. Truly though, they are still human and should not have to fight to get married or be lab rats in a scientific study. Gaymarriage has come into a spot light in the past few years. Currently only 17 of the 50 states allow same–sex marriage in the United States (ProConorg Headlines). 33 states still have a ban on same sex marriage within state limits (NCSL). Massachusetts is currently one of the states that allow marriage between 2 people of the same gender (Law Libraries). A poll taken in Massachusetts stated that 85% of people said that it had positive or no impact (NBC News Digital). This means that 2 people of the same gender who get married really has no effect on the public in a whole, which means that the government should not be making a big deal of something that has such a little impact on the public. • 14. Legalizing Gay Marriage Should Gay Marriage be Legalized in All States? "Marriage isn't between a man and woman, but between love and love." Gay marriage should be legalized in every state because homosexuals deserve the same equal rights as heterosexuals. Nobody should be told who they can and cannot marry. Everyone deserves a chance to be happy and not legalizing marriage is taking that opportunity away from homosexuals who want to get married. Like freedom of religion, there should be freedom of marriage. Having the ability to practice whichever region best suits you without someone judging you or without the government saying you have to practice a certain religion is freedom. Not being able to marry someone you love because the government thinks it violates natural law is discrimination. If we aren't able to discriminate against race what makes it acceptable to discriminate against homosexuals? Equality is a right that is protected by the United States Constitution and it needs to be enforced with gay marriage. Homosexuals and heterosexuals are both people. They both eat, sleep, walk,...show more content... Also, in the bible Matthew 7:1 it says "Do not judge or you shall be judged." In the bible it also says to obey your mother and father, and not to lie, cheat, or steal but half of the people who are against gay marriage have sinned once in their life. Another argument for the people against gay marriage is it denies a child either a mother or father. It's understandable that if gay marriage is allowed a child would absent of a mom or dad but who says you need a mother and father? There may be things that a mother can teach that a father cannot or the opposite but people do it every day. Single mothers, single fathers, and foster children. Some of the most successful people where raised by a single parent, or were foster children. • 15. Gay Marriage Should Be Legalized Gay marriage is in fact a controversial topic that many people feel strongly about. I believe that gay marriage should be legalized without being penalized by people who disagree with it. I will, within reason, explain to you why gay marriage should be legalized and argue against Karlee's essay about why gay marriage shouldn't be legalized. The first thing Karlee talks about in her opposing essay is, "Children of same–sex couples, biological or not, need both a mother and a father in their life." In an article on Sciencedaily.com, Do Children Need Both A Mother and A Father? it mentions that, "...there is almost no social science research to support this claim." Another great point it includes is, "...the researchers found no evidence of gender–biased parenting abilities... noting that very little about the gender of the parent has significance for children's psychological adjustment and social success." As said in the article, children with same–sex parents "do as well on average as children raised..:" by opposite gender parents. Another thing I will point out in Karlee's paper is the statement she mentioned, "Those children will hunger for a mother like figure and a father–like figure." Although that may be true, if one were to ask a kid, would you trade your parents? Their immediate reaction would be normal because no matter the gender, parents are parents. Children will love their parents, they've been there for them through everything, no matter what. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Discrimination concerns have also become a problem regarding the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In the past, homosexuals were discriminated and penalized for their sexual orientation. They were murdered in the early twentieth century and then later on imprisoned as time passed. Discrimination also arose if employers discovered of their employees homosexual orientation, which caused them to lose their employment. The equality rights have also been violated concerning marriage benefits and the definition as well – (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability. Before the definition of marriage was changed, homosexuals were not included under the law stating marriage as the union between a man and a woman. The government found it unconstitutional and changed it so it would correspond to the changes in the twenty–first century and reflect Canadian society in the present stating that marriage is a civil act Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Gay Marriage Should Be Legal Essay In every time period throughout history and every region of the world there has always been a stigma as to what it means to be a gay man – even if that is not the language that always would be used to describe homosexual behavior in a given place and time. In the United States, gay marriage has been legalized in all 50 states by a federal court ruling, but many Americans do not realize that there is still a long way to go in terms of embracing gay citizens (and the rest of the LGBT community) into the " societal norm." Despite the strides that have been taken to legalize marriage for same sex couples, there are many states where discrimination is still legal. LGBT people can be denied housing, work, and even service and are also not legally protected from discrimination in the education system in many states today. LGBT issues came into the spotlight in San Francisco in the 1970s, as Richard Rodriguez puts it in his essay "Late Victorians," when the private lives of gays and lesbians where starting to enter to the public sphere (Rodriguez 57). LGBT people, especially gay men, from all over the country were migrating to blossoming gay neighborhoods in San Francisco like the Castro. This growing phenomenon led to the birth of gay culture and how we define it today, and assisted in creating an identity for the gay community. This identity that the gay community was formulating during this time period was largely based on a superficial faГ§ade. Gay men in San Francisco began Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized? Essay Introduction What does it mean to be gay and why does society discriminate against those who are deemed to be gay? This paper establishes that being gay is primarily based on the supposition that one is either homosexual, transgender, lesbian, or bisexual. It also establishes that one of the primary reasons why gays are discriminated against within the society is religion; that some of the views held by different religious conclaves substantiate gay rejection by the society. On a more personal rather than institutional level, this paper also reveals that the culture of gay is also largely rebuked based on individual philosophies and moral standings which is precisely the min reason as to why hate crimes against gays have in the past found a substantive projection. In the American socio–cultural fabric, the emergence of gays has generated a continuous debate about gay marriage; essentially whether it should be legalized or not. The debate has pitted religion verses gay rights activists who base their arguments on the equal rights protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution. In conclusion, this paper will elaborate on some of the some of the states that have inherently legalized gay marriage, the projection of the issue five years from today, and how society can assist in making the world a better place for gays. Background on Homosexuality For purposes of coherence, the word gay will be periodically interchanged with the phrase homosexual. To Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 21. In addition, marriage is a religious rite. "Gay marriage is not compatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups" (ProCon.org, 2011, Con Gay Marriage, В¶4). In fact, we know that most of the religions are opposing same–sex marriage, because they are always guided by the Bible and God's commandments and his teachings. "Marriage was established by the Creator with its own nature, essential properties and purpose. No ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainty that marriage exists solely between a man and a woman" (ProCon.org, 2011, Con Gay Marriage, В¶12). If same–sex is legalized, churches and other religious institutions would be forced to change their rules in order to marry same–sex marriage couples. Furthermore, one of the biggest problems for society and probably the most important for new generations is that same–sex marriage would be that those couples will be able to adopt children if they are given the right to marry.
