Harrison Bergeron Character Analysis
Most people believe that one person cannot make a difference, stories like The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Harrison Bergeron by Kurt
Vonnegut shows that one person can make a difference. As the actions of one person can influence everyone around them. Every day here on Earth
there is always going to be someone making a difference by themselves. For instance, in the movie The Hunger Games the main character Katniss
Evergreen buries a little girl who was killed in The Hunger Games. Her action makes the district that the little girl was representing to riot and take
down the government that holds down at that district. (The Hunger Games movie). The action that the main character has affected those that see them
do such actions. Thus causing a domino effect and creates a huge difference to occur.Additionally, the story Harrison Bergeron has an example of one
person making a difference. In the story there is a Ballet being broadcasted, but then Harrison a person in the run interrupts it and shows to the whole
audience that you can be better...show more content...
They think that for them to make a difference they need a group of people to have a bigger force to push that difference. For instance, during World
War II, Hitler rallied a bunch of people to be on his side and push Nazism into Germany and making him a very powerful leader during that time.
However, what they don't see is that for one person to have such group they need to influence them. Thus having them be one person making a
difference. For example in the article "Can One Person Really Make A Difference?" By Steve Tobak says "That just a handful can make a huge
difference. Think about it. When one person influences a few others, there are two major effects: A ripple effect that, over time, can actually impact
thousands over generations. A broadening effect since one person influences many, like multiplying tree branches." (Tobak

Passion for Environment
Carson and Quinn's passion for environment I believe the level of attention given to saving the environment is extremely low. Humans don't seem to
be concerned all that about the environment. We are taking advantage of the environment for our own selfish reasons, and don't realize the
consequences. Maybe if we just had enough knowledge about the environment, or if we just changed our way of thinking, things could be different.
However it's still not too late, we can make a difference for people who live in this lifetime, and for people who will live in this world after us. Our
children, and grant children. Who will have to address this issue if we don't change our way of thinking. Daniel Quinn and Rachel Carson are

If we keep thinking that we are above any animals, species and or any living thing besides humans then humans will be extinct. Humanity has to
change their way of thinking to live sustainable. Quinn believes population control is very important. Quinn is trying to educated readers like us, if

I believe the small things make the biggest difference in a community. Over the years, I have served many, worthy volunteer organizations. From
lobbying to the state legislators on bills to alleviate hunger in our communities, to serving lunch at the local senior center, to assisting disabled
children at sporting events, I've enjoyed many opportunities to make a difference on a large scale. But one ordinary day, I did something I am truly
proud of and I think it made my community a better place. I was driving home from work one afternoon during the summer. It was hot by San Diego
standards; the temperature approaching more than 90 degrees. As I neared my home, there was a team of workers digging trenches to install reclaimed
water pipes

Comparing The Starfish Story And The Nobel Peace
In the Starfish story and the Nobel peace prize article, both of them prove how a small change can result in huge differences. Firstly, in the Starfish
story, it talks about a girl who was gently flinging starfish into the ocean because the tide was getting low while the sun was getting high and she was
afraid that the starfish would die. She picked up starfish one by one. An old man asks her why she was doing that because it wouldn't make any
difference. She then flings another starfish into the ocean, and then replies, "Well, I made a difference to that one."

My Mother Made A Difference In My Life
Ever since i was born my Mom has always been a person that has made a difference in my life and she has continued to be the one to open my eyes
and once again make a difference in my life. She isn't just my Mom, but is also my best friend. As my best friend she hears me out and gives me a lot
of advice. My Mom has shown me what it takes to stand up against everything that brings you down and rise up to fight back. She has shown me how
to fight through any situation and how to never quit on anything, but to continue to grow and get through anything that gets in my way. She taught me
everything i know and without her i wouldn't be where i am today.
There has been many times my mom has been a difference in my life and one of them was when i realized life is tough, but we need to be strong
and continue forward. When i was younger my dad was never there for us and as i got older he drifted more from us until it got to the point where he
left us. It was a tough day for me, but also for my Mother. It was tough on my mother, but she never quit. Instead she became tough and strong to
move forward and keep us going. She decided to raise three boys on her own and still manage to keep her job. She said, "I will never quit on you
guys and continue forward." This opened my eyes because of my Mom i became a tough young man that will not quit on anything. This was a
difference she made in my life because when i was younger i would quit and give up on everything and now I never give up on

I Am Making a Difference in My Community Essay
"Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul
motivated by love."
― Martin Luther King Jr.
Taking time to volunteer at the many nonprofit organizations, homeless shelters, advocacy centers, philanthropic fundraisers, local schools and child
care facilities in the inner city is not always at the forefront of young people's minds while navigating through their college experiences. But, with a
little push from student organizations, local nonprofits and passionate individuals, volunteerism and community change can start to take a front seat
and become not just an opportunity, but also a priority in the lives of young people....show more content...
A few times a semester I would volunteer at the Prison Book Program, where I would read letters from incarcerated individuals from all over the
country and find 2–3 books that match their interests and reading criteria. Opening each letter and hearing people's stories reminded me of the harsh
realities of our world today, and the difficulty many people face in preserving their human dignity and self–worth.
Whether guilty of crimes or innocent, our incarceration system is an issue that many activists rally around in terms of its success and promise in
correcting and rehabilitating criminal behavior. So, to read letters and hear the voices of those who are living on the marginalized edges of our
society, but who rarely have a voice in the issue that's being nationally rallied around, is an uncommon circumstance that should be noted and have
more attention and action drawn to. Their desire to educate themselves within the confines of a prison wall is real and heard by those of us who take
time to spend their weekday evenings in the bottom of a church basement, sorting through donated books, and reading literary wish–lists of those who
are incarcerated.
Another meaningful experience that sticks out to me is when I regularly volunteered at a children's homeless shelter in Roxbury, Mass. for two years,
and was reminded of the fact that the statistics we hear every day about homelessness are real people – not just numbers. Every child I played alongside,

Does Voting Make A Difference?
For some odd reason, many young people choose not to vote in elections with the excuse being that 'their one vote will not make a difference.' The
problem with this excuse is that though there is truth behind it, it can become alarming when the majority think that way.
One vote essentially means nothing, but a million votes can make a drastic difference in who is making the decisions for this country. One person with
the mindset that their vote doesn't matter isn't that big of a deal. However, the problem is that many in our generation think this way.
For those that don't think voting matters think back to the presidential election of 2008. That election saw the largest turnout among young voters that
this country has ever seen. That

To Make A Difference Essay
To Make A Difference
We build our lives upon what we have been taught. From basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic to the importance of social interaction, teachers
are given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of their students. I feel that the greatest impact a teacher can have on their students is to fill
them with a desire to learn.
I think the nature of students can vary tremendously depending on several different factors. The first is the cognitive domain of the students. This
includes how students organize and retain the knowledge that is presented to them as well as their preferred learning style. A successful teacher should
be aware of these factors and their curriculum should reflect this by...show more content...
I believe the purpose of education is to teach students how to function as a competent and successful member of society. As a teacher, I hope to make
a difference in the lives of children by sharing with them my love of knowledge and by effectively expressing the importance of continuing to build
upon the education they receive throughout life. I also hope to teach children how vital it is to respect others and their opinions regardless of the
difference they may have. Considering the dynamic diversity of our society, I feel it is pertinent that children respect the differences that our society
entails.
The primary educational philosophy I plan on incorporating into my classroom is progressivism. This approach encourages social interaction by using
learning groups, urges critical thinking and problem solving, and focuses more on "hands on" learning activities. Progressive educators believe that
students learn more by doing rather than by listening to information that is presented to them or by reading material out of a textbook. I feel this will
be particularly accurate at the elementary school level, because it can be a challenge attempting to hold the attention of small children for extended
periods of time. I think that if students are actively involved in the learning process their attention will be more focused resulting in a successful
education.
I will manage my classroom using

The Race Is Better Than More Than Other Races
7.The notion of path of least resistance is taking the easiest way, the way that has the least resistance. We make it seem like it was not our fault.
People who are in dominant groups use the path of resistance. They blame the victim, for instance a person with an eating disorder might get blamed
themselves for being skinny even if they can not help it. People also blame other instances, they call it something else. They also believe that is better
this way. One example is they believe that it is better for blacks to live in a different area then the whites.Racism exists because people do not want to
get into an argument, they just go around it. We do not talk about how onerace is better than another but we think it in our head. As people blame
others we are keeping racism alive. We are using those power to keep stereotyping and categorizing people. We are certain races are more powerful
than other races. We are putting them on a scale.
8.What really counts according to Johnson's insights is that just because we do not see it does not mean we should not do something about it. If
one person changes themselves about privileged and racism then you could help changed the world later on. Someone will not be able to change
the world in one day or even in a lifetime but over several lifetimes we can make a difference. Sometimes people have to go out of the norm and do
something that they feel is right to make a difference. What people do and do not do, we can be opened

What Makes Me Different? Essay
If one were to ask what makes me different, I think the most distinctive characteristic I possess is the diversity of experiences I have encountered. One
scene has remained vivid in my mind as my undergraduate years have gone by, and it involves a situation with my father. It was a bright and sunny
August afternoon, a perfect move–in day for my new room on Dutch Quad. The car was filled to capacity, with clothes, shoes, bins, and school
supplies and we were on our way to campus. While on the highway, I noticed my dad trembling. Drivers behind us on the highway were flashing
their lights and driving past our windows with anger. Still driving, his hands started to shake and he would let them off the wheel, as tears started
to roll down his eyes. I realized that he was going through an episode. "Dad, pull over for a second." "No, I've got to get you to school." In that
moment, I was fearful, yet having been rather recently informed that my dad was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, it ignited something in me that
I couldn't explain at the time, but I am now fully aware of. I told him again, firmly, "Dad, please pull over for a second" and I felt as though he
could see in my eyes, the love I had for him. He finally pulled over and I embraced him. I then got in the driver's seat, having only passed my road
test two days prior, and drove the rest of the way to Albany where I then made sure he got the appropriate medical attention needed. I visited him every
day while simultaneously

As a Teacher I Can Make a Difference Essay
Learning is a part of everyday life and teachers are to credit for it, whether it is teaching a sing–a–long or a life lesson. Teaching is a very important
career that allows children a chance to better themselves. Knowing that a child will walk away with a better understanding and feel good about them
gives me a great sense of accomplishment. With my love of children and the qualities I bring to the classroom, I feel that as a teacher I can make a
difference.
Teachers that show themselves as warm, encourage their students to work harder and strive for success. I believe that teachers are more than an
instructor but also a role model and friend. Instruction should be student centered, as John Dewey believed, making...show more content...
In turn, motivation will play an important role in my classroom.
Younger children need to know more often that they are doing exceptionally well at their studies. From observing others, I want to praise and
encourage those who do just that. Bulletin boards as well as other posters and displays should show the excellent papers and work of particular
students. This will not only allow them to see their talents and keep up their good work but also show the other children examples and how to strive for
their accomplishments.
I believe that my students should have responsibilities of their own as well. I would like to have a classroom pet so that it will teach them
compassion and show them that they can be helpful. As well as a pet, I have seen in classrooms small job charts. Whether it be dusting erasers or
picking up papers, it helps to have the children involved in the process. Younger children like to help out whenever they can as I have seen in my field
observation and in my own teaching. I think that it is very important to show them that they are growing up and can take on these responsibilities.
Even though there will be a vast amount of praise in my classroom, there must be discipline to maintain control. With my belief as a realist, the
students will be told the rules of the classroom on the very first day with ears attentive and minds ready to learn. Recurring bad behaviors will not be
tolerated

Making a difference has always been a priority in my life. When I was growing up, I made it a point of duty where ever I went to make everyone
happy by treating them equally. As a utilitarianism supporter, I am very passionate about what I do and making a difference by destructing societal
norms in the hopes that a majority of the people will be happy. As a Women's Studies/
Sociology major, I have become aware issues related to the
equality of both women and men in all areas of life, both personally and socially. Pursuing a concentration in Women's Studies/Sociology was not
only beneficial to my career as a prospective Civil Rights attorney, but has also contributed to my being the exemplary leader that I am today.
Considering this, I believe that everyone is entitled to equal rights and opportunities. By doing so, I have taken the first step by becoming an active
advisor/educator to my peers and my community. As a woman, a minority, and a first generation college student, I became the sole motivator and
decision maker in my life due to the death of my father at the age of fourteen and the rigorous work life of my motherВ¬– a single parent of two. With
this in mind, I have decided to become a mentor and a volunteer at the Florence DeGeorge Boys and Girls Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. In the
process of hosting numerous workshops on societal issues, career development and goals, I was able to develop countless relationships with a wide
variety of students. Above all, not only am I proud of donating my time, but I also found my experience to be an absolute pleasure due to the fact that
I played a vital role in the lives of my students' and my community. I am proud to become an asset to my community by investing my time, skills, and
knowledge. In addition, I also coordinate educational and career workshops by educating the public on social issues, such as police coercion, injustice,
inequality, racism, and violence. For that and many other reasons, I knew that I wanted to provide pro bono services to my community as a prospective
civil rights attorney, by utilizing a utilitarianism approach. Living in the U.S as a minority requires a rigorous transition from youth to adulthood, but
in the end it has taught me

Making a Difference Essay
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most
frightens us. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?" Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. You were
born to make manifest the glory of God that is within you. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we
unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." ––

"Did you make a difference in the world yesterday?" the brown–haired girl in the mirror asks, "Did you share your brilliance with others?" Sadly today,
I must say no. I must think of the girl at breakfast yesterday pushing the eggs around her plate. But the girl in the glass is not upset. Her smile assures
me that I will do better. She reminds me of friends who have set an example.
On December 30, 1995, four high school students were driving way to fast and tried to 'catch air' off a dip in the road. They succeeded in take–off but
when the car landed, it skidded across the road, wrapping the small frame of the car around a telephone pole. Of the two backseat passengers, one
was thrown out the rear window of the vehicle and walked away from the accident; the other received head injuries keeping him in the hospital for
months following the accident, in and out of surgeries. My two friends were seated in the front of the car. Joe was killed instantly, having been the
first to strike the pole. After the accident, Dave was airlifted away from the scene but passed away before reaching the hospital.
It wasn't until the following morning that I received the word. I sat downstairs flipping through the Sunday paper. I can still visualize my mom
coming into the room with red eyes. Her face told me she had something very serious to say. The news was broken bluntly. So bluntly that I did not
believe it. "Joe and Dave were killed

What Impact Will You Make
Most people don't realize the people who've made real difference are not all privileged, advantaged, or "special" by any means. You could have health
or mental disabilities and still make an impact. Some could be sport professionals or national leaders may inspire the world, while if you're quieter
you can inspire your family, friend's or co–workers. You could be young and do something you think isn't big, but in the future it will be. What impact
will you make? My impact will be a small, everyday kind of impact, but still effective in everyone's life. When I grow up I want to be an Ultrasound

Strengthen Community In Walking Tall
Yes, it is possible that one person can take action to strengthen their community. History has proven this time and time again. Hollywood has made
billions of dollars highlighting the success stories of these people. One movie in particular, that I can remember is Walking Tall. It is a movie about
a man who returned home from the military to find that his home town was taken over by crinimals. The main character of the movie was Chris
Vaghn. Chris took action into his own hands by taking a large stick everywhere he went. He never backed down even when he was threated or hurt.
He persued on to save his town. He eventually got the support of the town behind him and was elected sherrif. Walking tall is a fictional story but it is

Analysis Of Good Bones By Maggie Smith
Going through life, we are told again and again and again that one person can make a real and impactful difference. Just one act can spark a change
in the world more than you would ever possibly know. We are told that it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, or what your
experience is in this world. One action, large or small, has the ability to snowball into something truly amazing. All of that is great and all, and that
is how some people truly view the world that we live in. However, there are some people who have a much different point of view. These people
would argue that the world that we live in is a terrible and threatening place; it's not difficult to see their point on that topic. This world has too many

Her children will be able to make the change that the world needs. The narrator even admits that she herself had indulged in the evil side of the world.
She has shortened her life "in a thousand delicious, ill–advised ways." (Smith 106). She is explaining to us that people are constantly given the
opportunity to not discipline themselves and that it's easy to let the world fall apart around you. She says, "for every kind stranger, there is one who
would break you," (Smith 106). She knows all this information about the dangers of the world, but she keeps that from her children. Why? Because she
doesn't want her children to be ruined by the evils of the world. She wants them to be moral people and grow up to be someone who is making a
positive change. No parent should want their child to grow up in a world that they believe is hell on earth. She doesn't want her children to allow
the world around them fall apart, she wants them to be the person who is going to make the world a better place to be. She wants her children to
choose to make the right choice and make a positive change in the world. This idea that the world is at least half bad sets up the other choice that
everyone has to make. As the poem closes, the main argument is presented to the reader. The narrator finally emphasizes the choice that people must
make. The narrator gives an example of a real–estate agent walking someone through a terrible house. The narrator says that even though

The Significance of a Single Soul How can one single person make a difference in the world? It seems impossible that a single person can make a
difference in such a large world but it happens all the time. In history, many people have made very notable influences in the the way we live today.
They have indeed changed the world forever. Literature illustrates this very same principle time and time again. In Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, for
example, Brutus is burdened with two choices: stay loyal to Caesar or join Cassius's conspiracy. Brutus eventually decides on joining Cassius
because he sees it as the healthier alternative for the Roman Republic. He murders Caesar with the group and the repercussion is brutal. Antigone in
the play by Sophocles makes the choice of following divine law over civil law, deciding to bury her brother Polyneices' corpse rather than letting his

People can completely ruin or end lives with relative ease. Dictators throughout history have accomplished this through their selfish campaigns for their
own gain. If Antigone hadn't been a strong–willed person, her family wouldn't have died. At the same time, If Creon wasn't also just as strong–willed,
that outcome wouldn't be true all the same. If one of them would have broke under the pressure sooner, the lives of the family would be saved. If
one of them had just seen the the trouble as not worth it and not as an issue to fight over, none of these lives would've been wasted. Brutus, after his
group's assassination of Caesar, costs the lives of 100 senators, his friends, his family, and many more soldiers during the subsequent civil war. If
Brutus had not joined the conspiracy, maybe Caesar would be king, but these hundreds of lives would've been unharmed. Brutus did not think the
situation through with himself enough to realize the danger posed from such an assassination and he paid the price for it, with his

granted . Sometimes we take all these things for granted . We don't learn how to appreciate these things . I never thought about who was my hero
in life but I just learned that my grandmother from my mom's side is my hero because she always gave more than she had .When she saw people
struggling she opened her arms and decided to help them out with food , a place to stay and many other things . she had the kindest heart because
of her she inspires me to become a better person and to help others who are struggling in life. I could help them to improve their lives and i could
guide them to the right path. I learned that I always talk about issues with my friends about what's going on in society to relationships to life. It's
always important to be there for your friends. One thing I learned about myself was how im good at dancing and how i'm good at encouraging people
and being thankful for life. Things that make me feel good would be getting myself a good education and having a job . I also learned that I want to
connect with others and gain more ideas. I learned that my motto is No matter what you go through in life you will find that light at the end of the

Harrison Bergeron Character Analysis

  • 1. Harrison Bergeron Character Analysis Most people believe that one person cannot make a difference, stories like The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut shows that one person can make a difference. As the actions of one person can influence everyone around them. Every day here on Earth there is always going to be someone making a difference by themselves. For instance, in the movie The Hunger Games the main character Katniss Evergreen buries a little girl who was killed in The Hunger Games. Her action makes the district that the little girl was representing to riot and take down the government that holds down at that district. (The Hunger Games movie). The action that the main character has affected those that see them do such actions. Thus causing a domino effect and creates a huge difference to occur.Additionally, the story Harrison Bergeron has an example of one person making a difference. In the story there is a Ballet being broadcasted, but then Harrison a person in the run interrupts it and shows to the whole audience that you can be better...show more content... They think that for them to make a difference they need a group of people to have a bigger force to push that difference. For instance, during World War II, Hitler rallied a bunch of people to be on his side and push Nazism into Germany and making him a very powerful leader during that time. However, what they don't see is that for one person to have such group they need to influence them. Thus having them be one person making a difference. For example in the article "Can One Person Really Make A Difference?" By Steve Tobak says "That just a handful can make a huge difference. Think about it. When one person influences a few others, there are two major effects: A ripple effect that, over time, can actually impact thousands over generations. A broadening effect since one person influences many, like multiplying tree branches." (Tobak Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Passion for Environment Carson and Quinn's passion for environment I believe the level of attention given to saving the environment is extremely low. Humans don't seem to be concerned all that about the environment. We are taking advantage of the environment for our own selfish reasons, and don't realize the consequences. Maybe if we just had enough knowledge about the environment, or if we just changed our way of thinking, things could be different. However it's still not too late, we can make a difference for people who live in this lifetime, and for people who will live in this world after us. Our children, and grant children. Who will have to address this issue if we don't change our way of thinking. Daniel Quinn and Rachel Carson are passionate about...show more content... If we keep thinking that we are above any animals, species and or any living thing besides humans then humans will be extinct. Humanity has to change their way of thinking to live sustainable. • 3. I believe the small things make the biggest difference in a community. Over the years, I have served many, worthy volunteer organizations. From lobbying to the state legislators on bills to alleviate hunger in our communities, to serving lunch at the local senior center, to assisting disabled children at sporting events, I've enjoyed many opportunities to make a difference on a large scale. But one ordinary day, I did something I am truly proud of and I think it made my community a better place. I was driving home from work one afternoon during the summer. It was hot by San Diego standards; the temperature approaching more than 90 degrees. As I neared my home, there was a team of workers digging trenches to install reclaimed water pipes Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Comparing The Starfish Story And The Nobel Peace In the Starfish story and the Nobel peace prize article, both of them prove how a small change can result in huge differences. Firstly, in the Starfish story, it talks about a girl who was gently flinging starfish into the ocean because the tide was getting low while the sun was getting high and she was afraid that the starfish would die. She picked up starfish one by one. An old man asks her why she was doing that because it wouldn't make any difference. She then flings another starfish into the ocean, and then replies, "Well, I made a difference to that one." Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Mother Made A Difference In My Life Ever since i was born my Mom has always been a person that has made a difference in my life and she has continued to be the one to open my eyes and once again make a difference in my life. She isn't just my Mom, but is also my best friend. As my best friend she hears me out and gives me a lot of advice. My Mom has shown me what it takes to stand up against everything that brings you down and rise up to fight back. She has shown me how to fight through any situation and how to never quit on anything, but to continue to grow and get through anything that gets in my way. She taught me everything i know and without her i wouldn't be where i am today. There has been many times my mom has been a difference in my life and one of them was when i realized life is tough, but we need to be strong and continue forward. When i was younger my dad was never there for us and as i got older he drifted more from us until it got to the point where he left us. It was a tough day for me, but also for my Mother. It was tough on my mother, but she never quit. Instead she became tough and strong to move forward and keep us going. She decided to raise three boys on her own and still manage to keep her job. She said, "I will never quit on you guys and continue forward." This opened my eyes because of my Mom i became a tough young man that will not quit on anything. This was a difference she made in my life because when i was younger i would quit and give up on everything and now I never give up on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. I Am Making a Difference in My Community Essay "Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul motivated by love." ― Martin Luther King Jr. Taking time to volunteer at the many nonprofit organizations, homeless shelters, advocacy centers, philanthropic fundraisers, local schools and child care facilities in the inner city is not always at the forefront of young people's minds while navigating through their college experiences. But, with a little push from student organizations, local nonprofits and passionate individuals, volunteerism and community change can start to take a front seat and become not just an opportunity, but also a priority in the lives of young people....show more content... A few times a semester I would volunteer at the Prison Book Program, where I would read letters from incarcerated individuals from all over the country and find 2–3 books that match their interests and reading criteria. Opening each letter and hearing people's stories reminded me of the harsh realities of our world today, and the difficulty many people face in preserving their human dignity and self–worth. Whether guilty of crimes or innocent, our incarceration system is an issue that many activists rally around in terms of its success and promise in correcting and rehabilitating criminal behavior. So, to read letters and hear the voices of those who are living on the marginalized edges of our society, but who rarely have a voice in the issue that's being nationally rallied around, is an uncommon circumstance that should be noted and have more attention and action drawn to. Their desire to educate themselves within the confines of a prison wall is real and heard by those of us who take time to spend their weekday evenings in the bottom of a church basement, sorting through donated books, and reading literary wish–lists of those who are incarcerated. Another meaningful experience that sticks out to me is when I regularly volunteered at a children's homeless shelter in Roxbury, Mass. for two years, and was reminded of the fact that the statistics we hear every day about homelessness are real people – not just numbers. Every child I played alongside, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Does Voting Make A Difference? For some odd reason, many young people choose not to vote in elections with the excuse being that 'their one vote will not make a difference.' The problem with this excuse is that though there is truth behind it, it can become alarming when the majority think that way. One vote essentially means nothing, but a million votes can make a drastic difference in who is making the decisions for this country. One person with the mindset that their vote doesn't matter isn't that big of a deal. However, the problem is that many in our generation think this way. For those that don't think voting matters think back to the presidential election of 2008. That election saw the largest turnout among young voters that this country has ever seen. • 8. To Make A Difference Essay To Make A Difference We build our lives upon what we have been taught. From basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic to the importance of social interaction, teachers are given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of their students. I feel that the greatest impact a teacher can have on their students is to fill them with a desire to learn. I think the nature of students can vary tremendously depending on several different factors. The first is the cognitive domain of the students. This includes how students organize and retain the knowledge that is presented to them as well as their preferred learning style. A successful teacher should be aware of these factors and their curriculum should reflect this by...show more content... I believe the purpose of education is to teach students how to function as a competent and successful member of society. As a teacher, I hope to make a difference in the lives of children by sharing with them my love of knowledge and by effectively expressing the importance of continuing to build upon the education they receive throughout life. I also hope to teach children how vital it is to respect others and their opinions regardless of the difference they may have. Considering the dynamic diversity of our society, I feel it is pertinent that children respect the differences that our society entails. The primary educational philosophy I plan on incorporating into my classroom is progressivism. This approach encourages social interaction by using learning groups, urges critical thinking and problem solving, and focuses more on "hands on" learning activities. Progressive educators believe that students learn more by doing rather than by listening to information that is presented to them or by reading material out of a textbook. I feel this will be particularly accurate at the elementary school level, because it can be a challenge attempting to hold the attention of small children for extended periods of time. I think that if students are actively involved in the learning process their attention will be more focused resulting in a successful education. I will manage my classroom using

  • 10. The Race Is Better Than More Than Other Races 7.The notion of path of least resistance is taking the easiest way, the way that has the least resistance. We make it seem like it was not our fault. People who are in dominant groups use the path of resistance. They blame the victim, for instance a person with an eating disorder might get blamed themselves for being skinny even if they can not help it. People also blame other instances, they call it something else. They also believe that is better this way. One example is they believe that it is better for blacks to live in a different area then the whites.Racism exists because people do not want to get into an argument, they just go around it. We do not talk about how onerace is better than another but we think it in our head. As people blame others we are keeping racism alive. We are using those power to keep stereotyping and categorizing people. We are certain races are more powerful than other races. We are putting them on a scale. 8.What really counts according to Johnson's insights is that just because we do not see it does not mean we should not do something about it. If one person changes themselves about privileged and racism then you could help changed the world later on. Someone will not be able to change the world in one day or even in a lifetime but over several lifetimes we can make a difference. Sometimes people have to go out of the norm and do something that they feel is right to make a difference. What people do and do not do, we can be opened Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. What Makes Me Different? Essay If one were to ask what makes me different, I think the most distinctive characteristic I possess is the diversity of experiences I have encountered. One scene has remained vivid in my mind as my undergraduate years have gone by, and it involves a situation with my father. It was a bright and sunny August afternoon, a perfect move–in day for my new room on Dutch Quad. The car was filled to capacity, with clothes, shoes, bins, and school supplies and we were on our way to campus. While on the highway, I noticed my dad trembling. Drivers behind us on the highway were flashing their lights and driving past our windows with anger. Still driving, his hands started to shake and he would let them off the wheel, as tears started to roll down his eyes. I realized that he was going through an episode. "Dad, pull over for a second." "No, I've got to get you to school." In that moment, I was fearful, yet having been rather recently informed that my dad was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, it ignited something in me that I couldn't explain at the time, but I am now fully aware of. I told him again, firmly, "Dad, please pull over for a second" and I felt as though he could see in my eyes, the love I had for him. He finally pulled over and I embraced him. I then got in the driver's seat, having only passed my road test two days prior, and drove the rest of the way to Albany where I then made sure he got the appropriate medical attention needed. I visited him every day while simultaneously Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. As a Teacher I Can Make a Difference Essay Learning is a part of everyday life and teachers are to credit for it, whether it is teaching a sing–a–long or a life lesson. Teaching is a very important career that allows children a chance to better themselves. Knowing that a child will walk away with a better understanding and feel good about them gives me a great sense of accomplishment. With my love of children and the qualities I bring to the classroom, I feel that as a teacher I can make a difference. Teachers that show themselves as warm, encourage their students to work harder and strive for success. I believe that teachers are more than an instructor but also a role model and friend. Instruction should be student centered, as John Dewey believed, making...show more content... In turn, motivation will play an important role in my classroom. Younger children need to know more often that they are doing exceptionally well at their studies. From observing others, I want to praise and encourage those who do just that. Bulletin boards as well as other posters and displays should show the excellent papers and work of particular students. This will not only allow them to see their talents and keep up their good work but also show the other children examples and how to strive for their accomplishments. I believe that my students should have responsibilities of their own as well. I would like to have a classroom pet so that it will teach them compassion and show them that they can be helpful. As well as a pet, I have seen in classrooms small job charts. Whether it be dusting erasers or picking up papers, it helps to have the children involved in the process. Younger children like to help out whenever they can as I have seen in my field observation and in my own teaching. I think that it is very important to show them that they are growing up and can take on these responsibilities. Even though there will be a vast amount of praise in my classroom, there must be discipline to maintain control. With my belief as a realist, the students will be told the rules of the classroom on the very first day with ears attentive and minds ready to learn. Recurring bad behaviors will not be tolerated Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Making a difference has always been a priority in my life. When I was growing up, I made it a point of duty where ever I went to make everyone happy by treating them equally. As a utilitarianism supporter, I am very passionate about what I do and making a difference by destructing societal norms in the hopes that a majority of the people will be happy. As a Women's Studies/ Sociology major, I have become aware issues related to the equality of both women and men in all areas of life, both personally and socially. Pursuing a concentration in Women's Studies/Sociology was not only beneficial to my career as a prospective Civil Rights attorney, but has also contributed to my being the exemplary leader that I am today. Considering this, I believe that everyone is entitled to equal rights and opportunities. By doing so, I have taken the first step by becoming an active advisor/educator to my peers and my community. As a woman, a minority, and a first generation college student, I became the sole motivator and decision maker in my life due to the death of my father at the age of fourteen and the rigorous work life of my motherВ¬– a single parent of two. With this in mind, I have decided to become a mentor and a volunteer at the Florence DeGeorge Boys and Girls Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. In the process of hosting numerous workshops on societal issues, career development and goals, I was able to develop countless relationships with a wide variety of students. Above all, not only am I proud of donating my time, but I also found my experience to be an absolute pleasure due to the fact that I played a vital role in the lives of my students' and my community. I am proud to become an asset to my community by investing my time, skills, and knowledge. In addition, I also coordinate educational and career workshops by educating the public on social issues, such as police coercion, injustice, inequality, racism, and violence. For that and many other reasons, I knew that I wanted to provide pro bono services to my community as a prospective civil rights attorney, by utilizing a utilitarianism approach. Living in the U.S as a minority requires a rigorous transition from youth to adulthood, but in the end it has taught me Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Making a Difference Essay "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?" Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. You were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within you. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." –– Nelson...show more content... "Did you make a difference in the world yesterday?" the brown–haired girl in the mirror asks, "Did you share your brilliance with others?" Sadly today, I must say no. I must think of the girl at breakfast yesterday pushing the eggs around her plate. But the girl in the glass is not upset. Her smile assures me that I will do better. She reminds me of friends who have set an example. On December 30, 1995, four high school students were driving way to fast and tried to 'catch air' off a dip in the road. They succeeded in take–off but when the car landed, it skidded across the road, wrapping the small frame of the car around a telephone pole. Of the two backseat passengers, one was thrown out the rear window of the vehicle and walked away from the accident; the other received head injuries keeping him in the hospital for months following the accident, in and out of surgeries. My two friends were seated in the front of the car. Joe was killed instantly, having been the first to strike the pole. After the accident, Dave was airlifted away from the scene but passed away before reaching the hospital. It wasn't until the following morning that I received the word. I sat downstairs flipping through the Sunday paper. I can still visualize my mom coming into the room with red eyes. Her face told me she had something very serious to say. The news was broken bluntly. So bluntly that I did not believe it. "Joe and Dave were killed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. What Impact Will You Make Most people don't realize the people who've made real difference are not all privileged, advantaged, or "special" by any means. You could have health or mental disabilities and still make an impact. Some could be sport professionals or national leaders may inspire the world, while if you're quieter you can inspire your family, friend's or co–workers. You could be young and do something you think isn't big, but in the future it will be. What impact will you make? My impact will be a small, everyday kind of impact, but still effective in everyone's life. • 18. Analysis Of Good Bones By Maggie Smith Going through life, we are told again and again and again that one person can make a real and impactful difference. Just one act can spark a change in the world more than you would ever possibly know. We are told that it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, or what your experience is in this world. One action, large or small, has the ability to snowball into something truly amazing. All of that is great and all, and that is how some people truly view the world that we live in. However, there are some people who have a much different point of view. These people would argue that the world that we live in is a terrible and threatening place; it's not difficult to see their point on that topic. This world has too many terrorist...show more content... Her children will be able to make the change that the world needs. The narrator even admits that she herself had indulged in the evil side of the world. She has shortened her life "in a thousand delicious, ill–advised ways." (Smith 106). She is explaining to us that people are constantly given the opportunity to not discipline themselves and that it's easy to let the world fall apart around you. She says, "for every kind stranger, there is one who would break you," (Smith 106). She knows all this information about the dangers of the world, but she keeps that from her children. Why? Because she doesn't want her children to be ruined by the evils of the world. She wants them to be moral people and grow up to be someone who is making a positive change. No parent should want their child to grow up in a world that they believe is hell on earth. She doesn't want her children to allow the world around them fall apart, she wants them to be the person who is going to make the world a better place to be. She wants her children to choose to make the right choice and make a positive change in the world. This idea that the world is at least half bad sets up the other choice that everyone has to make. As the poem closes, the main argument is presented to the reader. The narrator finally emphasizes the choice that people must make. The narrator gives an example of a real–estate agent walking someone through a terrible house. The narrator says that even though Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. The Significance of a Single Soul How can one single person make a difference in the world? It seems impossible that a single person can make a difference in such a large world but it happens all the time. In history, many people have made very notable influences in the the way we live today. They have indeed changed the world forever. Literature illustrates this very same principle time and time again. In Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, for example, Brutus is burdened with two choices: stay loyal to Caesar or join Cassius's conspiracy. Brutus eventually decides on joining Cassius because he sees it as the healthier alternative for the Roman Republic. He murders Caesar with the group and the repercussion is brutal. Antigone in the play by Sophocles makes the choice of following divine law over civil law, deciding to bury her brother Polyneices' corpse rather than letting his soul fester in...show more content... People can completely ruin or end lives with relative ease. Dictators throughout history have accomplished this through their selfish campaigns for their own gain. If Antigone hadn't been a strong–willed person, her family wouldn't have died. At the same time, If Creon wasn't also just as strong–willed, that outcome wouldn't be true all the same. If one of them would have broke under the pressure sooner, the lives of the family would be saved. If one of them had just seen the the trouble as not worth it and not as an issue to fight over, none of these lives would've been wasted. Brutus, after his group's assassination of Caesar, costs the lives of 100 senators, his friends, his family, and many more soldiers during the subsequent civil war. If Brutus had not joined the conspiracy, maybe Caesar would be king, but these hundreds of lives would've been unharmed. Brutus did not think the situation through with himself enough to realize the danger posed from such an assassination and he paid the price for it, with his Get more content on HelpWriting.net
