Gender Autobiography Essay
Growing up in a spiritual black home, the topics of sexuality and gender are barely discussed, and if the book that my mom bought me when she
couldn't find the words to teach me about sex herself say anything, then it's easy to see how I was sheltered from most things as a child. Despite
having sex ed in middle school, I still didn't know much about anything outside of those very awkward and giggle filled health classes. It wasn't until
my best friend pulled me aside after class into the bathroom and whispered in my ear that she was gay, that it'd even cross my mind that maybe I
wasn't as straight as I thought. Even then her coming out to me was an awkward. Picture this, two young girls awkwardly staring at each other in a

Some nights you feel dirty for thinking the way that you do. When your parents make comments not knowing that they're backhands to the face, you
begin to question your worth when staring in the mirror, and nights when the your self hatred peaks its ugly head from around the corner, you are left
begging to God for things to be different. However on some days you take steps forward instead of falling back.
Though I don't participate in my school's GSA I still have friends that I can rely on when times get rough. My gay best friend holds me through my
tears and helps me learn to love myself. And while I can't show her to my parents, on some nights I hold the girl in my closet and I tell her that she is
beautiful for who she is and we smile together ready to face a new day. In secret, she and I love whoever we want and we feel beautiful for

Reading Autobiography
My life as a reader has been like a rollercoaster, I had ups and downs. There had been times where I would read regularly and my reading level would
go up and there had been times where I completely stopped reading and my reading level dropped drastically.
Reading is something that is taught to everyone in their early childhood, the time I learned to read I was very fond of books. I loved to read novels
to myself and to read them out loud to my sister. I like reading action, thriller, historical fiction, and mystery. During my early childhood we would
have challenges of reading such as wrapped up and reading, golden dragon. These were reading challenges for students to read 20–25 specific grade
novels during the school year and at the end you got a party if you read at least 5–10. I used to love reading and at that time I would read at least 20
books because I wanted to go to the party and win something with the lottery tickets I got. My childhood was fulI of reading, even if I read because I
was greedy and I read because of the party, it still improved my reading level. As I grew and grew my reading...show more content...
I think that reading is very important for me, and since my reading is not that strong, I should improve my reading habits, and force myself to read.
Reading will help me improve my writing; my reading comprehension and it will help me have a bright and successful future. Even though I am not
sure of what my future career will be I am sure that reading will always benefit me. Reading will help me develop my verbal abilities. It won't make
me a better communicator, but it will help me expand my level of vocabulary to use. It will improve my focus and concentration level, it will
strengthen my attention span. It will broaden my knowledge by reading stories that happen or can happen in today's life. Reading always benefits

Autobiographical Memory Early Childhood
Development of Autobiographical Memory During Childhood
Although young children are capable of forming memories, empirical investigations of autobiographical memory during childhood have shown there
are age–related differences in certain aspects of children's reports of personal experiences, suggesting autobiographical memory is improving during this
period. For example, an investigation examining children's memory of a staged emergency evacuation in response to a fire alarm, found that both 3ВЅ–
and 4ВЅ–year–old children recalled details of the event when interviewed two weeks after (Pillemer, et al., 1994). However, the narratives of the older
children (4ВЅ years of age) included more detail. Specifically, older children were better able to...show more content...
Picard et. al; 2009; Fivush, 2011). Previous studies examining the neural correlates of autobiographical memory using functional magnetic resonance
imaging (fMRI), have found that the hippocampus, plays critical role in autobiographical memory (e.g. Cabeza et al., 2004; Daselaar et al., 2008).
However, little is known about how the hippocampus contributes to autobiographical memory development because what has been studied has focused
primarily on adults (Maguire & Frith, 2003). When the neural basis of autobiographical memory development was studied in children, they only
observed the neural correlates of autobiographical memory throughout the brain, not the hippocampus specifically (Bauer et. al 2016). Thus, the role of
the hippocampus earlier in life and its association with autobiographical memory is relatively under

Personal Narrative: A Personal Autobiography
Ok, how does one starts a personal autobiography? I'm not quite sure what to say about me. I'm Nissa, it's pronounce like Nissan excluding the "n"
at the end. Most of my peers know me by Merline which is my birth name, however, I changed my name to Nissa because people couldn't
pronounce Merline right; it's a French name and it requires certain emphasis when pronouncing it especially on the "r". Anyway, enough about my
name. As you can already tell, I have an accent, a Caribbean one to be precise. I'm originally from Haiti, I moved here in 2011. I had to learn
English from the beginning and I'm still learning now, of course. When I moved here I was expecting things to be like the movies I've seen many
times while I was a child. Well, it's somewhat

My Autobiographical Portfolio
Creating this autobiographical portfolio was pretty difficult at first because I had not realized what I was going to write about. Initially, my project
was just a lot of drafts of documents and I had to do my best to try and combine them all honestly. It was not easy at first but after all the typing was
finished this project became extremely easy. It became just about getting things done and making sure they meant word count (if they had a word
count). What I learned about myself as a writer is that of course I should work on becoming a better writer and work harder on making sure all my
writings easily convey the message that I am trying to send. More or less I have to work hard to be less confusing and get better at putting my thoughts

Importance Of Autobiographical Writing
Paper #1 Autobiographical writing Writing skills are an important part of communication to Jailene Ocasio. Without these important skills it would be
very difficult for someone to communicate their message clearly and in a way that is comprehensible to others. The ability to write essays well is one
of the determinants of academic success because of communication. Within that success lies a student's writing skills, approaches to writing, general
feelings toward writing and already established writing habits.
At an early age Ocasio was taught the basics of reading and writing such as learning the alphabet, capitalization, and punctuation. Without these basic
skills one may not be able to do simple tasks such as properly spell or sound out words. These basic skills are very important because they are the
foundation of reading and writing. Capitalization is important because it lets one know the subject capitalized is specific or important for example the
beginning to a new sentence, someone's name, a place, days of the week or month of year. Without punctuation one would not know how to distinguish
between declarative, exclamatory and interrogative sentences. Ocasio practices these skills everyday of her life whether it be writing a essay for an
school assignment, texting or reading about new information or words she is not familiar with. As a person moves into higher reading and writing
levels, they are taught numerous ways to approach different forms of writing.

Descriptive Autobiography
It all started when I came back from football practice and was watching T.V. I was 10 at the time, and I stumbled upon a channel where these
women modeled these remarkable masterpieces. It peaked my interest in creating similar fashion pieces. I scurried to my room and began
drawing. Subsequently, I dashed to show my parents what I created. I expected them to be proud and supportive of me, like they always do, but
this time their faces turned from smiles to complete confusion. They gasped and scolded at me. I never understood why they they were so mad.
Why would my number one supporters turn against me? I'm Xander. Alexander to be exact. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with both of my
parents, my sister Sammy, and my dog Buster. I have bright blue eyes which, in fact, I got from my Dad. My rich dark brown hair I clearly got
from my Mom. I have been playing football ever since I could remember. I am currently the captain of Lauderdale High School's football team.
This is my last year until I go off to college to major in business. Another thing is when I was a kid I was incredibly creative and deeply attracted to
art. Although my Dad always pushed me to play football, ever since I was born, he was a firm believer in doing what you want to do. Plus, I was
naturally physically made for the job. Anyways, both of my parents have been very supportive of me, and so has my girlfriend, Zoe. The catch is if I
told my family and Zoe that I want to major in arts, they would

James Baldwin's Autobiographical Essay
In James Baldwin's "Autobiographical Notes" you can tell that in his life he has experienced many things whether it be good or bad. Being born
in Harlem, New York in 1924 you'd expect him to go through a lot from the time he was brought into the world; especially being black in those
times. He is often found to be rather pessimistic at times and would go on to talk about the things he doesn't like in the world. James Baldwin, in
his notes goes on to list a number of things he doesn't like, "I do not like bohemia, or bohemians, I do not like people whose principal aim is pleasure,
and I do not like people who are earnest about anything. I don't like people who like me because I'm a Negro; neither do I like people who find in the

Autobiography Of A Teacher
As children, we absorb information and learn from experiences that mold us into who we are. Many individuals impact a child's life, but the most
powerful and influential role lies in a devoted teacher, a teacher provides growth to students as a gardener would to a garden of flowers. Each child
can bloom into a thriving flower so long as you water their garden with optimism, love, patience, and guidance. Throughout my educational
experiences I was lucky enough to have educators who poured their knowledge and optimism into me, and now I would like to reciprocate that back
to students who are in the position I was once in. Balancing life and school is hard enough for a student, but a powerful and caring teacher can steer
you in the right direction. In this autobiography you will read about my educational background, experiences that influenced my decision to become a
teacher, and what I believe the role of a teacher should be in a student's life. As a student I went to multiple schools, I went to three different elementary
schools, two middle schools, and two high schools in Brownsville, and through it all I had great experiences. Brownsville is a humble community with
low socioeconomic status, but rich in culture, history, and unity. In retrospect, the socioeconomic status was changing as I attended different schools,
depending on the area of the school, of course. I was able to see peers of mine with different statuses than the person next to them, some more affluent

Autobiographical Exploration
According to Sigmund Freud and his theory of Psychoanalysis, human behaviors, morals, and patterns of thought are all linked to our past childhood
experiences. Our experiences and our exposure to our environment during our lifetime made who we are. How we grew up, who we interacted with,
and what we saw around us affected how we viewed certain hot topics in our modern society.
I was born into a Hispanic family that enforced the Spanish language at home, and fitting into the stereotype, when it came to religion, there was only
one option. Catholicism. Everyone I talked to growing up, before attending kindergarten, was catholic. It was the only thing I was exposed too. I never
knew people could follow a...show more content...
I also believe that having that religious connection with my family is something everyone needs to have.
Another hot topic that I learned growing up is sexual orientation. Coming from a Catholic environment growing up, there is only one type of sexual
orientation that we believed in. Being heterosexual. Yet, recently, I learned a lot about sexual orientation when the legalization of same
–sex marriage
was made in the past year. For instance, I had never processed that people of the same sex could not get married until watching the all the movements
on the television, and after same–sex marriage was legalized I discovered the many types of sexual orientations that could exist in marriage. As soon
as it was legalized, I was happy for their happiness, yet did not realize the impact it would make on our church at the time.
Today, I believe the sexual orientation is a way for any individual's unique way to find happiness outside of the church. I find those people to be
courageous for finding their own path and following their heart to find love, but I also believe through the catholic church that only the love between a
man and women have the right to get married under a church.
As I got older I also realized that social class was not homogeneous in my community. At school, I started to be more aware of my surroundings by
noticing what the trends were, what clothes people wore, and what cars they got in

Cultural Autobiography Essay
My story begins on August 31, 1999 when I was born in Beth Israel Hospital, from there I was raised in Andover, Massachusetts my whole life. I am
half Japanese as my mother immigrated from Japan to the United States when she met my father during college. My father being a Caucasian male
created an interracial family that I was raised. I went to a technical school where it was predominately a Hispanic culture where much of the students
were bilingual. Coming from a family that is solely not one race and going to a school where many students shared a different culture allowed for
me to get a unique view of society. My family which includes my mother, father and sister all live in a predominately white upper class town. Life was
a lot easier for me as I was a part of the upper–class community in the town. Being a part of the upper middle class allowed me to attend an out of state
college. On the other hand, many of my friends from school stayed in Massachusetts to attended community college and other in state colleges as it is a
less of a financial burden. Many of the student attended my high school and went to those colleges were predominately Hispanic culturally. As they were

mostly had to depend on them for communication between others. One example of this was during a game where the goalie told me to leave the ball
in Spanish, but because I didn't understand him I kicked the ball causing my goalie to leave the net and the other team scored. They later told me what

Autobiographical Memory Analysis
Autobiographical memory is the memory of a person's life events and information (Fossati, 2013). One process that affects the accuracy of memory is
coherence. Although, coherence is essential to maintain self–esteem, self–beliefs, and a stable sense of self (Conway, 2005). Individuals sometimes
desire super memory due to memory fallibility. There are people who have superior memories– such as individuals with Highly superior
autobiographical memory (HSAM). Unfortunately, possessing such a memory comes with severe consequences, which renders super memory less
appealing, especially as memories have such a significant influence on the self (James, 1950).
Human memory can be changed, biased or even completely fabricated (Conway et al., 2004)....show more content...
Studies of extreme violations of coherence show the vast importance of coherence to maintaining a self that can operate effectively in the world
(Conway, 2005). Baddeley et al (1996) reported cases regarding hospitalised schizophrenics that illustrates this. In one case, a man truly believed he
was a famous rock guitarist despite knowing he could not play guitar. Another patient believed he was a Russian chess grand master even though he
could not speak Russian, nor had he been there, and he was often beaten at the game by other patients. Furthermore, Downes and Mayes (1994)
reported a case regarding a man with a neuropsychological disorder. He was convinced he could remember having a terrible argument with his father
the day before, although, he could also remember attending his father funeral years earlier.
Instances such as this highlight the importance of coherence to healthy individuals. Individuals with a coherent self are more likely to have high
self–esteem, and increased well–being (Csikzentmilhalkyi and Baettie, 1979). Finally, when the self is in line with the past the individual can be
effective, achieve goals and relate to others (Bluck and Habermas,

Autobiographical Statement Essay
A few years ago I found myself on a train heading from Amsterdam to Hamburg. I had just spent several days traveling through the Netherlands and
was going to end my fall break trip in Germany. The cities I picked had been arbitrary. All I knew was that in the three and a half months I was
studying abroad I would see as much of the world as possible. This often meant frantically searching the internet for cheap flights, bus tickets, and
hostiles, and only getting to spend a day or two in a magnificent city. This also meant traveling alone. As I relaxed in my seat and scribbled postcards
to my friends and parents, I was at the most peace I had ever been. It was not without chaos though. I had taken the wrong tram that morning, been

I had to learn to find and trust my community. That peace and serenity I felt on a bumpy train ride stayed with me as a constant reminder of the peace
possible in the world. Having dealt with such a mind–consuming illness I am often envious of those that need not be mindful of every moment and
event of every day in order to survive. However, I know that my increased awareness also makes my life that much brighter. It allows me to see and
feel other people's pain. It has allowed me to help others through the same difficult times I once faced. My recovery was all about balance and my life
continues to be about that same sense of equilibrium. About working hard and playing hard. About spending time alone, running, meditating, dancing,
or writing–and by engaging in conversation, debating, embracing, dancing (with others), and attending worship. About taking part in extracurricular
activities, academics, and volunteering and still giving myself time to have coffee with a friend or read alone in the park. Growing up Catholic and
attending parochial school from kindergarten through my senior year of high school meant that religion was constantly around me. However, in contrast
to this academic setting, God was absent from my daily life. Although they sent me to a Catholic school and insisted I attend mass every Sunday, my
parents never once mentioned God, prayer, or spirituality within the home. These

My Cultural Autobiography
Nancy Domanski
Sir Frances Bacon said, "If a man be gracious to strangers, it shows that he is a citizen of the world, and his heart is no island cut off from other
islands, but a continent that joins them," (Jenkins, 1994). This quote represents all the core values that I cherish and to which I adhere. Personal
culture doesn't have to be linked to a certain country of origin or a specific ethnicity; it can be as simple as a person's core values. The Southern way of
life is a culture all in itself. Growing up south of the Mason–Dixon Line in the United States has instilled in me many values including honesty,
integrity and a genuine concern for my fellow man. Most...show more content...
I think it is because of how different the food is and how many choices are available. I am proud that I have continued this tradition with my children
for many reasons, but manly because it opens their minds to new people and cultures. I think this tradition that my mother started was pretty
progressive for her time. She never seemed to be restrained by the typical female roles of most women of her time. She somehow managed to
remain true to her southern traditions while blending them into a progressive way of thinking. I think I am the same, in that I am trying to teach my
daughter respect for others, especially her elders, while making sure her own thoughts are valued as well. My brother, Mike, recently reminded me of
another very strong southern value that I too feel passionate about when he said, "Don't ask me for a handout, but I am always willing to give you a
hand up." By this is meant, southerners are always willing to help someone better themselves or their situation. If they are hungry, feed them and show
them how to feed themselves. If they need a job, teach them the skills needed to find a job–not give them money. To us, throwing money at a situation
is not helping. It is demeaning to the receiver and it will most likely encourage the problem. More simply put, if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a
day. If you teach a man to fish, he will feed himself forever.

Self Autobiography Essay
Looking back on my past work, a few subjects are very prominent to me now such as: the self–portrait, the autobiographical in art, performance and the
body. My work is autobiographical in the sense that it's been inspired by my experiences and influenced by my environment and social surroundings.
The self–portrait is a re–occurring theme and there are works that I've made where I was literally in the work, acting as the performer or artist.
These are themes I spent a great deal of time researching for my thesis artwork titled: Open Studio: A Phase in Six Years of my Art Education, which
was exhibited at the culmination of my MFA program in 2014. For my thesis, I started by researching theories about the mirror and the window in art
history; and their relationship to the idea of self–reflection. These modern concepts of individuality and the self–conscious nature of my artistic
interests led me to consider the self–portrait as a theme. But I also spent a great deal of time considering autobiography as more than a self–portrait. It
presents an individual identity in a narrative or time period of their life. In a time where the borders between public and private, fictitious and real
are so blurred, I was intrigued with how the presentation of one's own life in art can raise questions. Part of the challenge for me was how to present
this as honestly or sincerely as possible. What is autobiographical in art can be more than a narcissistic reflection of self, it can also be a

What did you have for breakfast today? What did you have for dinner this day a year ago? If asked these questions, most people would be able to
answer the first, but have trouble answering the second accurately. Memory is not perfect, and it does not last forever. However, there are a select
few individuals that have an ability to recall specific autobiographical details from across their lifetime, thus answering the second question would
not be difficult at all. They are classified as having an ability called highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM). HSAM is a relatively recent
discovery, so there are a lot of questions surrounding the condition. However, researchers have made progress in discovering the nature of HSAM,

The amygdala, which is involved in emotional response, may play a part in social and self–referential processing. The amygdala likely adds emotional,
social, and self–relevant information to autobiographical memories (Ally, Hussey & Donahue, 2013). Perhaps then there is hyperactivity in the
amygdala system for HSAM patients. In addition, other regions of the brain may be involved in HSAM. 6 out of 9 identified regions have size and
shape differences in patients with HSAM compared to patients with normal memory capabilities (LePort et al., 2012). Structural differences could also
include increased grey and white matter in other parts of the brain including the hippocampus, which is involved in memory, compared to individuals
with regular or poor memory (Palombo et al., 2015). The structure of fibers in white matter may also cause greater efficiency in information transfer
between brain regions in individuals with HSAM (Mcgaugh & LaPort, 2014). Plainly, there are some neuroanatomical differences involved in the
superior memory individuals with HSAM

Many times in people 's lives, they are asked to define their personality and they do not know how to respond. What is the actual definition of
personality and how can we define our own? Personality is a unique consistent pattern of thinking, feeling, and acting. In other words, personality is a
combination of characteristics or qualities that form the person in you. Like a painting, there are many different color schemes that combine in order to
show the big picture. There is no such thing as a person without a personality. Some people may not have very extroverted characteristics; this means
that they have a shy or colorless personality.

As I grew older, I noticed a change in the way I identified myself. At the age of 12, I hit puberty and my hormones were raging. I now understood
that the stalk didn 't really drop me off at my doorstep. I was now introduced to the next bond in my life, the female. Females have had a major
impact on the way a man governs his life. At this time in my life I knew to be more adamant about my hygiene and the way I present myself in
public. This way, I might attract the same girls that attracted my attention. I was fairly good at conversing with the opposite sex and this was some sort
of fulfillment in my life that greatly influenced the way I think and act, not only to impress others but also to feel good about myself.
After I hit puberty, I realized a new Joey. A more a mature Joey, who started caring for the feelings of others rather than just myself. It was a good
time for this to happen since my Bar Mitzvah was right around the corner. It was soon time for me to be recognized as a man. It was also a time
where I found myself connected to God. This spiritual feeling gave me a stronger guidance which I did not yet realize until I was a little older.
Religion is a big factor that helped me and will continue to help me get to the right places the in right way. My parents had taught me about religion to

Gender Autobiography Essay

  • 1. Gender Autobiography Essay Growing up in a spiritual black home, the topics of sexuality and gender are barely discussed, and if the book that my mom bought me when she couldn't find the words to teach me about sex herself say anything, then it's easy to see how I was sheltered from most things as a child. Despite having sex ed in middle school, I still didn't know much about anything outside of those very awkward and giggle filled health classes. It wasn't until my best friend pulled me aside after class into the bathroom and whispered in my ear that she was gay, that it'd even cross my mind that maybe I wasn't as straight as I thought. Even then her coming out to me was an awkward. Picture this, two young girls awkwardly staring at each other in a dirty middle school...show more content... Some nights you feel dirty for thinking the way that you do. When your parents make comments not knowing that they're backhands to the face, you begin to question your worth when staring in the mirror, and nights when the your self hatred peaks its ugly head from around the corner, you are left begging to God for things to be different. However on some days you take steps forward instead of falling back. Though I don't participate in my school's GSA I still have friends that I can rely on when times get rough. My gay best friend holds me through my tears and helps me learn to love myself. And while I can't show her to my parents, on some nights I hold the girl in my closet and I tell her that she is beautiful for who she is and we smile together ready to face a new day. In secret, she and I love whoever we want and we feel beautiful for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay On Autobiography Of Reading Reading Autobiography My life as a reader has been like a rollercoaster, I had ups and downs. There had been times where I would read regularly and my reading level would go up and there had been times where I completely stopped reading and my reading level dropped drastically. Reading is something that is taught to everyone in their early childhood, the time I learned to read I was very fond of books. I loved to read novels to myself and to read them out loud to my sister. I like reading action, thriller, historical fiction, and mystery. During my early childhood we would have challenges of reading such as wrapped up and reading, golden dragon. These were reading challenges for students to read 20–25 specific grade novels during the school year and at the end you got a party if you read at least 5–10. I used to love reading and at that time I would read at least 20 books because I wanted to go to the party and win something with the lottery tickets I got. My childhood was fulI of reading, even if I read because I was greedy and I read because of the party, it still improved my reading level. As I grew and grew my reading...show more content... I think that reading is very important for me, and since my reading is not that strong, I should improve my reading habits, and force myself to read. Reading will help me improve my writing; my reading comprehension and it will help me have a bright and successful future. Even though I am not sure of what my future career will be I am sure that reading will always benefit me. Reading will help me develop my verbal abilities. It won't make me a better communicator, but it will help me expand my level of vocabulary to use. It will improve my focus and concentration level, it will strengthen my attention span. It will broaden my knowledge by reading stories that happen or can happen in today's life. Reading always benefits people in some Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Autobiographical Memory Early Childhood Development of Autobiographical Memory During Childhood Although young children are capable of forming memories, empirical investigations of autobiographical memory during childhood have shown there are age–related differences in certain aspects of children's reports of personal experiences, suggesting autobiographical memory is improving during this period. For example, an investigation examining children's memory of a staged emergency evacuation in response to a fire alarm, found that both 3ВЅ– and 4ВЅ–year–old children recalled details of the event when interviewed two weeks after (Pillemer, et al., 1994). However, the narratives of the older children (4ВЅ years of age) included more detail. Specifically, older children were better able to...show more content... Picard et. al; 2009; Fivush, 2011). Previous studies examining the neural correlates of autobiographical memory using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), have found that the hippocampus, plays critical role in autobiographical memory (e.g. Cabeza et al., 2004; Daselaar et al., 2008). However, little is known about how the hippocampus contributes to autobiographical memory development because what has been studied has focused primarily on adults (Maguire & Frith, 2003). When the neural basis of autobiographical memory development was studied in children, they only observed the neural correlates of autobiographical memory throughout the brain, not the hippocampus specifically (Bauer et. al 2016). Thus, the role of the hippocampus earlier in life and its association with autobiographical memory is relatively under Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Personal Narrative: A Personal Autobiography Ok, how does one starts a personal autobiography? I'm not quite sure what to say about me. I'm Nissa, it's pronounce like Nissan excluding the "n" at the end. Most of my peers know me by Merline which is my birth name, however, I changed my name to Nissa because people couldn't pronounce Merline right; it's a French name and it requires certain emphasis when pronouncing it especially on the "r". Anyway, enough about my name. As you can already tell, I have an accent, a Caribbean one to be precise. I'm originally from Haiti, I moved here in 2011. I had to learn English from the beginning and I'm still learning now, of course. When I moved here I was expecting things to be like the movies I've seen many times while I was a child. Well, it's somewhat Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Autobiographical Portfolio Creating this autobiographical portfolio was pretty difficult at first because I had not realized what I was going to write about. Initially, my project was just a lot of drafts of documents and I had to do my best to try and combine them all honestly. It was not easy at first but after all the typing was finished this project became extremely easy. It became just about getting things done and making sure they meant word count (if they had a word count). What I learned about myself as a writer is that of course I should work on becoming a better writer and work harder on making sure all my writings easily convey the message that I am trying to send. More or less I have to work hard to be less confusing and get better at putting my thoughts Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Importance Of Autobiographical Writing Paper #1 Autobiographical writing Writing skills are an important part of communication to Jailene Ocasio. Without these important skills it would be very difficult for someone to communicate their message clearly and in a way that is comprehensible to others. The ability to write essays well is one of the determinants of academic success because of communication. Within that success lies a student's writing skills, approaches to writing, general feelings toward writing and already established writing habits. At an early age Ocasio was taught the basics of reading and writing such as learning the alphabet, capitalization, and punctuation. Without these basic skills one may not be able to do simple tasks such as properly spell or sound out words. These basic skills are very important because they are the foundation of reading and writing. Capitalization is important because it lets one know the subject capitalized is specific or important for example the beginning to a new sentence, someone's name, a place, days of the week or month of year. Without punctuation one would not know how to distinguish between declarative, exclamatory and interrogative sentences. Ocasio practices these skills everyday of her life whether it be writing a essay for an school assignment, texting or reading about new information or words she is not familiar with. As a person moves into higher reading and writing levels, they are taught numerous ways to approach different forms of writing. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. Descriptive Autobiography It all started when I came back from football practice and was watching T.V. I was 10 at the time, and I stumbled upon a channel where these women modeled these remarkable masterpieces. It peaked my interest in creating similar fashion pieces. I scurried to my room and began drawing. Subsequently, I dashed to show my parents what I created. I expected them to be proud and supportive of me, like they always do, but this time their faces turned from smiles to complete confusion. They gasped and scolded at me. I never understood why they they were so mad. Why would my number one supporters turn against me? I'm Xander. Alexander to be exact. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with both of my parents, my sister Sammy, and my dog Buster. I have bright blue eyes which, in fact, I got from my Dad. My rich dark brown hair I clearly got from my Mom. I have been playing football ever since I could remember. I am currently the captain of Lauderdale High School's football team. This is my last year until I go off to college to major in business. Another thing is when I was a kid I was incredibly creative and deeply attracted to art. Although my Dad always pushed me to play football, ever since I was born, he was a firm believer in doing what you want to do. Plus, I was naturally physically made for the job. Anyways, both of my parents have been very supportive of me, and so has my girlfriend, Zoe. The catch is if I told my family and Zoe that I want to major in arts, they would Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. James Baldwin's Autobiographical Essay In James Baldwin's "Autobiographical Notes" you can tell that in his life he has experienced many things whether it be good or bad. Being born in Harlem, New York in 1924 you'd expect him to go through a lot from the time he was brought into the world; especially being black in those times. He is often found to be rather pessimistic at times and would go on to talk about the things he doesn't like in the world. James Baldwin, in his notes goes on to list a number of things he doesn't like, "I do not like bohemia, or bohemians, I do not like people whose principal aim is pleasure, and I do not like people who are earnest about anything. I don't like people who like me because I'm a Negro; neither do I like people who find in the same accident grounds for contempt." As a pessimist it's...show more content... • 10. Psychological Autobiography Examples 8,989 miles, that is the distance that separates me from a huge part of who i am. I was born in Zimbabwe, Africa. My dad moved to the USA when i was about four or five to have a chance of the "American Dream." He lived in the states on his own so that we would join him later. Four years later in 2009 the rest of the family joined him. We lived all together in Atlanta Georgia for a year then in 2010 we moved to Newton Kansas and have been here ever since. I have one brother, Lincoln who is seven years older than me. I just turned seventeen this late october. My dad is one of the pastors at Whitestone Mennonite Church. He is still going to school part time and working part time. My mom broke her back a few years back so she couldn't be a CNA anymore. Instead she did what she loved which was open up her clothing store, Moyo Clothing. I always said that coming to America was a curse and a blessing. • 11. Autobiography Of A Teacher As children, we absorb information and learn from experiences that mold us into who we are. Many individuals impact a child's life, but the most powerful and influential role lies in a devoted teacher, a teacher provides growth to students as a gardener would to a garden of flowers. Each child can bloom into a thriving flower so long as you water their garden with optimism, love, patience, and guidance. Throughout my educational experiences I was lucky enough to have educators who poured their knowledge and optimism into me, and now I would like to reciprocate that back to students who are in the position I was once in. Balancing life and school is hard enough for a student, but a powerful and caring teacher can steer you in the right direction. In this autobiography you will read about my educational background, experiences that influenced my decision to become a teacher, and what I believe the role of a teacher should be in a student's life. As a student I went to multiple schools, I went to three different elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools in Brownsville, and through it all I had great experiences. Brownsville is a humble community with low socioeconomic status, but rich in culture, history, and unity. In retrospect, the socioeconomic status was changing as I attended different schools, depending on the area of the school, of course. I was able to see peers of mine with different statuses than the person next to them, some more affluent than Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Autobiographical Exploration According to Sigmund Freud and his theory of Psychoanalysis, human behaviors, morals, and patterns of thought are all linked to our past childhood experiences. Our experiences and our exposure to our environment during our lifetime made who we are. How we grew up, who we interacted with, and what we saw around us affected how we viewed certain hot topics in our modern society. I was born into a Hispanic family that enforced the Spanish language at home, and fitting into the stereotype, when it came to religion, there was only one option. Catholicism. Everyone I talked to growing up, before attending kindergarten, was catholic. It was the only thing I was exposed too. I never knew people could follow a...show more content... I also believe that having that religious connection with my family is something everyone needs to have. Another hot topic that I learned growing up is sexual orientation. Coming from a Catholic environment growing up, there is only one type of sexual orientation that we believed in. Being heterosexual. Yet, recently, I learned a lot about sexual orientation when the legalization of same –sex marriage was made in the past year. For instance, I had never processed that people of the same sex could not get married until watching the all the movements on the television, and after same–sex marriage was legalized I discovered the many types of sexual orientations that could exist in marriage. As soon as it was legalized, I was happy for their happiness, yet did not realize the impact it would make on our church at the time. Today, I believe the sexual orientation is a way for any individual's unique way to find happiness outside of the church. I find those people to be courageous for finding their own path and following their heart to find love, but I also believe through the catholic church that only the love between a man and women have the right to get married under a church. As I got older I also realized that social class was not homogeneous in my community. At school, I started to be more aware of my surroundings by noticing what the trends were, what clothes people wore, and what cars they got in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Cultural Autobiography Essay My story begins on August 31, 1999 when I was born in Beth Israel Hospital, from there I was raised in Andover, Massachusetts my whole life. I am half Japanese as my mother immigrated from Japan to the United States when she met my father during college. My father being a Caucasian male created an interracial family that I was raised. I went to a technical school where it was predominately a Hispanic culture where much of the students were bilingual. Coming from a family that is solely not one race and going to a school where many students shared a different culture allowed for me to get a unique view of society. My family which includes my mother, father and sister all live in a predominately white upper class town. Life was a lot easier for me as I was a part of the upper–class community in the town. Being a part of the upper middle class allowed me to attend an out of state college. On the other hand, many of my friends from school stayed in Massachusetts to attended community college and other in state colleges as it is a less of a financial burden. Many of the student attended my high school and went to those colleges were predominately Hispanic culturally. As they were Latino, I appeared to them as a generic Asian. With this came stereotypes such as the assumption that I was...show more content... Not being a part of that culture was difficult as many of the students spoke Spanish but I could never understand them. Even when I was on the same soccer team with them they still spoke Spanish to each other, although some one would usually try to translate for me. I felt like a burden to them as I mostly had to depend on them for communication between others. One example of this was during a game where the goalie told me to leave the ball in Spanish, but because I didn't understand him I kicked the ball causing my goalie to leave the net and the other team scored. They later told me what that word Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Autobiographical Memory Analysis Autobiographical memory is the memory of a person's life events and information (Fossati, 2013). One process that affects the accuracy of memory is coherence. Although, coherence is essential to maintain self–esteem, self–beliefs, and a stable sense of self (Conway, 2005). Individuals sometimes desire super memory due to memory fallibility. There are people who have superior memories– such as individuals with Highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM). Unfortunately, possessing such a memory comes with severe consequences, which renders super memory less appealing, especially as memories have such a significant influence on the self (James, 1950). Human memory can be changed, biased or even completely fabricated (Conway et al., 2004)....show more content... Studies of extreme violations of coherence show the vast importance of coherence to maintaining a self that can operate effectively in the world (Conway, 2005). Baddeley et al (1996) reported cases regarding hospitalised schizophrenics that illustrates this. In one case, a man truly believed he was a famous rock guitarist despite knowing he could not play guitar. Another patient believed he was a Russian chess grand master even though he could not speak Russian, nor had he been there, and he was often beaten at the game by other patients. Furthermore, Downes and Mayes (1994) reported a case regarding a man with a neuropsychological disorder. He was convinced he could remember having a terrible argument with his father the day before, although, he could also remember attending his father funeral years earlier. Instances such as this highlight the importance of coherence to healthy individuals. Individuals with a coherent self are more likely to have high self–esteem, and increased well–being (Csikzentmilhalkyi and Baettie, 1979). Finally, when the self is in line with the past the individual can be effective, achieve goals and relate to others (Bluck and Habermas, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Autobiographical Statement Essay A few years ago I found myself on a train heading from Amsterdam to Hamburg. I had just spent several days traveling through the Netherlands and was going to end my fall break trip in Germany. The cities I picked had been arbitrary. All I knew was that in the three and a half months I was studying abroad I would see as much of the world as possible. This often meant frantically searching the internet for cheap flights, bus tickets, and hostiles, and only getting to spend a day or two in a magnificent city. This also meant traveling alone. As I relaxed in my seat and scribbled postcards to my friends and parents, I was at the most peace I had ever been. It was not without chaos though. I had taken the wrong tram that morning, been unable...show more content... I had to learn to find and trust my community. That peace and serenity I felt on a bumpy train ride stayed with me as a constant reminder of the peace possible in the world. Having dealt with such a mind–consuming illness I am often envious of those that need not be mindful of every moment and event of every day in order to survive. However, I know that my increased awareness also makes my life that much brighter. It allows me to see and feel other people's pain. It has allowed me to help others through the same difficult times I once faced. My recovery was all about balance and my life continues to be about that same sense of equilibrium. About working hard and playing hard. About spending time alone, running, meditating, dancing, or writing–and by engaging in conversation, debating, embracing, dancing (with others), and attending worship. About taking part in extracurricular activities, academics, and volunteering and still giving myself time to have coffee with a friend or read alone in the park. Growing up Catholic and attending parochial school from kindergarten through my senior year of high school meant that religion was constantly around me. However, in contrast to this academic setting, God was absent from my daily life. Although they sent me to a Catholic school and insisted I attend mass every Sunday, my parents never once mentioned God, prayer, or spirituality within the home. • 16. Essay about Cultural Autobiography Running Head: MY CULTURAL My Cultural Autobiography Nancy Domanski Sir Frances Bacon said, "If a man be gracious to strangers, it shows that he is a citizen of the world, and his heart is no island cut off from other islands, but a continent that joins them," (Jenkins, 1994). This quote represents all the core values that I cherish and to which I adhere. Personal culture doesn't have to be linked to a certain country of origin or a specific ethnicity; it can be as simple as a person's core values. The Southern way of life is a culture all in itself. Growing up south of the Mason–Dixon Line in the United States has instilled in me many values including honesty, integrity and a genuine concern for my fellow man. Most...show more content... I think it is because of how different the food is and how many choices are available. I am proud that I have continued this tradition with my children for many reasons, but manly because it opens their minds to new people and cultures. I think this tradition that my mother started was pretty progressive for her time. She never seemed to be restrained by the typical female roles of most women of her time. She somehow managed to remain true to her southern traditions while blending them into a progressive way of thinking. I think I am the same, in that I am trying to teach my daughter respect for others, especially her elders, while making sure her own thoughts are valued as well. My brother, Mike, recently reminded me of another very strong southern value that I too feel passionate about when he said, "Don't ask me for a handout, but I am always willing to give you a hand up." By this is meant, southerners are always willing to help someone better themselves or their situation. If they are hungry, feed them and show them how to feed themselves. If they need a job, teach them the skills needed to find a job–not give them money. To us, throwing money at a situation is not helping. It is demeaning to the receiver and it will most likely encourage the problem. More simply put, if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he will feed himself forever. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Self Autobiography Essay Looking back on my past work, a few subjects are very prominent to me now such as: the self–portrait, the autobiographical in art, performance and the body. My work is autobiographical in the sense that it's been inspired by my experiences and influenced by my environment and social surroundings. The self–portrait is a re–occurring theme and there are works that I've made where I was literally in the work, acting as the performer or artist. These are themes I spent a great deal of time researching for my thesis artwork titled: Open Studio: A Phase in Six Years of my Art Education, which was exhibited at the culmination of my MFA program in 2014. For my thesis, I started by researching theories about the mirror and the window in art history; and their relationship to the idea of self–reflection. These modern concepts of individuality and the self–conscious nature of my artistic interests led me to consider the self–portrait as a theme. But I also spent a great deal of time considering autobiography as more than a self–portrait. It presents an individual identity in a narrative or time period of their life. In a time where the borders between public and private, fictitious and real are so blurred, I was intrigued with how the presentation of one's own life in art can raise questions. Part of the challenge for me was how to present this as honestly or sincerely as possible. What is autobiographical in art can be more than a narcissistic reflection of self, it can also be a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Autobiographical Memory What did you have for breakfast today? What did you have for dinner this day a year ago? If asked these questions, most people would be able to answer the first, but have trouble answering the second accurately. Memory is not perfect, and it does not last forever. However, there are a select few individuals that have an ability to recall specific autobiographical details from across their lifetime, thus answering the second question would not be difficult at all. They are classified as having an ability called highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM). HSAM is a relatively recent discovery, so there are a lot of questions surrounding the condition. However, researchers have made progress in discovering the nature of HSAM, possible links...show more content... The amygdala, which is involved in emotional response, may play a part in social and self–referential processing. The amygdala likely adds emotional, social, and self–relevant information to autobiographical memories (Ally, Hussey & Donahue, 2013). Perhaps then there is hyperactivity in the amygdala system for HSAM patients. In addition, other regions of the brain may be involved in HSAM. 6 out of 9 identified regions have size and shape differences in patients with HSAM compared to patients with normal memory capabilities (LePort et al., 2012). Structural differences could also include increased grey and white matter in other parts of the brain including the hippocampus, which is involved in memory, compared to individuals with regular or poor memory (Palombo et al., 2015). The structure of fibers in white matter may also cause greater efficiency in information transfer between brain regions in individuals with HSAM (Mcgaugh & LaPort, 2014). Plainly, there are some neuroanatomical differences involved in the superior memory individuals with HSAM Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Autobiography in Psychology Many times in people 's lives, they are asked to define their personality and they do not know how to respond. What is the actual definition of personality and how can we define our own? Personality is a unique consistent pattern of thinking, feeling, and acting. In other words, personality is a combination of characteristics or qualities that form the person in you. Like a painting, there are many different color schemes that combine in order to show the big picture. There is no such thing as a person without a personality. Some people may not have very extroverted characteristics; this means that they have a shy or colorless personality. Now its time for me to define my personality. Who am I? As I grew older, I noticed a change in the way I identified myself. At the age of 12, I hit puberty and my hormones were raging. I now understood that the stalk didn 't really drop me off at my doorstep. I was now introduced to the next bond in my life, the female. Females have had a major impact on the way a man governs his life. At this time in my life I knew to be more adamant about my hygiene and the way I present myself in public. This way, I might attract the same girls that attracted my attention. I was fairly good at conversing with the opposite sex and this was some sort of fulfillment in my life that greatly influenced the way I think and act, not only to impress others but also to feel good about myself. After I hit puberty, I realized a new Joey. A more a mature Joey, who started caring for the feelings of others rather than just myself. It was a good time for this to happen since my Bar Mitzvah was right around the corner. It was soon time for me to be recognized as a man. It was also a time where I found myself connected to God. This spiritual feeling gave me a stronger guidance which I did not yet realize until I was a little older.
