Enhancing professional capacity 
EdisonLearning’s Learning Force offers educators a 
comprehensive, customized, flexible solution including 
curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional 
development designed to meet all of their tutoring needs. 
Developing the classroom teacher 
The classroom teacher is the key to quality instruction 
and implementation of the best teaching practices and 
strategies included in the Learning Force program. For this 
reason, EdisonLearning provides the teacher all areas of 
professional development. Pre-program initial training, 
delivered by EdisonLearning Learning Force staff and 
attended by the Site Director and Vice President of 
Educational Services, offers training on techniques that lead 
right back to the classroom. 
• Engaging and relevant The thorough, complete, and 
engaging professional development in Learning Force 
includes instructional strategies that all teachers, no matter 
how experienced or how new to the profession, are able to 
put into practice immediately. 
• Effective delivery In order for teachers to respond well 
to Learning Force professional development, training is 
delivered in-person by a trainer who is well experienced in 
teaching all grades that are included in the program. The 
time, materials, and trainer, are included with Learning Force 
to ensure a positive development experience. 
• Frequency and follow-through Initial professional 
development, usually 2-3 hours, is provided several weeks 
before the program starts. This session provides all 
information teachers need to implement a successful 
program. If there are site needs, follow-up professional 
development can be delivered via distance learning, 
conference calls or email. 
• Customized to your needs Learning Force Professional 
Development is a collaborative process so it is tailored to 
your needs and aligns with state standards. The program’s 
customization incorporates local goals that may involve 
differentiated instruction, student engagement, test 
preparation strategies or instructional methods. 
• Ongoing support Teachers are provided an Instructional 
Pacing Calendar that is customized to your sites’ hours and 
days. Schools are also supported through the use of 
Learning Force’s Classroom Walk-through chart. With the 
walk-through chart, teachers receive feedback on lesson 
pacing, engagement strategies, and fidelity to 
Learning Force lessons.

Train-the-trainer delivery 
A train-the-trainer model is developed to build capacity 
within every partner school. The model provides scripts, 
slides, handouts, and training methods to build district 
capacity and flexibility to deliver, maintain and evaluate 
professional development. 
The train-the-trainer model focuses on: 
Site Director Training Learning Force experts offer 
professional development to Site Directors at the school 
and/or district level prior to program start. This training 
includes: 
• Instructional methods • Operations 
• Lesson design 
• Implementation needs 
• Assessment strategies 
• Teacher Observation and 
classroom walk-through 
• Data analysis 
Regional Support Teams Learning Force experts offer 
professional development to the Vice President of 
Education Services and other stakeholders at the regional 
level, as required, prior to program start. This training includes: 
• Instructional methods 
• Data analysis 
• Lesson design 
• Operations 
• Assessment strategies 
• Implementation needs

Sample training timeline 
(1) 2009-2010 School Year: EdisonLearning provides each 
of the following topics in 2 two-hour sessions: 
(i) curriculum implementation; (ii) using math 
manipulatives; (iii) data analysis; and (iv) differentiating 
instruction with questioning strategies. 
(2) 2010-2011 School Year: EdisonLearning provides 
curriculum implementation training for new teachers and 
will also provide 2 two-hour sessions on each of the 
following: (i) responding to students with positive behavior 
supports; (ii) grouping and differentiating instruction for 
success; and (iii) helping parents help their kids.
