2. - A colorimeter is a device that measures the absorbance of particular
wavelengths of light by a specific solution.
- This device is commonly used to determine the concentration of a known
solute in a given solution

4. Equation:
Total Chol. = × conc. Standard
Example :
If the Absorption sample (Ab.Sa) = 0.295 ml
If the Absorption standard (Ab.St) = 0.243 ml
If the conc. Standard = 200 mg/dl
Then : the Total Chol. = × 200 = 242 mg/dl (High)
Normal range of Cholesterol in the body :
Less than 200mg/dL = Normal.
200-239 mg/dL = Borderline high.
240mg/dL and above = High.

5. Interpretation of pervious result :
This patient at High Risk of cardiovascular disease,
Because the Cholesterol in his blood at the High Level
If the result was Normal , the interpretation will be :
This patient has No Risk of cardiovascular disease,
because the Cholesterol in his blood at Normal Level

6. Triacylglycerides (TAG)
determination

Conc. TAG = × conc. Standard
Example :
If the Absorption sample (Ab.Sa) = 0.264 ml
If the Absorption standard (Ab.St) = 0.258 ml
If the conc. Standard = 200 mg/dl
Then : the Total Cholesterol = × 200 = 204 mg/dl (High)
Normal range of Cholesterol in the body :
Less than 150 mg/dL = Normal.
150 to 199 mg/dL = Borderline high.
200 to 499 mg/dL = High.
500 mg/dL or above = very high

If the result was Normal , the interpretation will be :

9. Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL)
determination

10. Equation of Friedewald :
(LDL) = Total Chol. - ( + HDL)
Example :
If the Total Chol. = 242 ml
If the TAG = 204 ml
If the HDL = 40 mg/dl
Then : The (LDL) = 242 - ( + 40 ) = 161 mg/dl (High)
Normal range of Cholesterol in the body :
Less than 100mg/dL = Optimal .
100-129mg/dL = Near optimal/above optimal
130-159 mg/dL = Borderline high.
160-189 mg/dL = High.
190 mg/dL and above = Very High
