2. Camera movement
■ The movie starts with a close zoom shot, focusing on the flowers as the scene
takes place in a flower store, as this sets a very welcoming and joyful ambient. As
the scene progresses, we can see pan movement being used in order to explain
the scene furthermore, refocusing our attention from flowers to very pleasant,
heart warming customers, and other props sold in the party store. Further, in the
movie a pedestal down movement is used, as it gradually focuses from
congratulation cards to an elderly man looking at one card that caught his
attention, paying attention to his sadness in the eyes.
4. Lighting
■ The setting of the movies is very bright, with both
daylight and artificial lights. Here in this scene we
can see both lowkey and high key light. The lowkey
light is used in order clearly represent the sadness of
this man, as he might have lost a close one ( such as
a wife).
■ While the high key light is giving us hope that things
will be better and there is a brighter future for this
man. This contrast of lights may seem confusing as
lowkey lights are used to set a lower mood explaining
sadness, fear or anger. While, on the other hand we
have high key lights that are used to explain
happiness, bright future or even hope.
5. Sound
■ The sound used for this movie is very calming, a piano instrumental. This really sets the tone for the whole
movie, as it is giving hope that everything is alright. The music places as background sound, at some
moments does not fit the scenery, as this movie does have some heart breaking moments. But looking on
the other hand, this music proves that people do actually have hope, and have learned how to cope with
their emotions or even loss of a very special person (wife).
6. Editing
■ Transitions
■ Cut – the cuts in this movie are smooth and continuity.
■ Sound – this music has two types of sounds, such as human voices and music.
Human voices are followed by background music.
■ Text – in this movie, the text was used for mentioning actors, for the title of the
movie “passing”.
■ Lighting – throughout the whole movie, both high and low key light tones are used,
explaining the scenery much more vividly.
7. Mise en scene
■ As we can see from this shot costumes of
actors are casual wear, but in bright and
vibrant colors. One of the hints we get
when noticing their clothes is that they
may be richer middle class workers.
These people are very pleasant, open to
any type of chat. They also seem very
calm, as nobody has a hint of anger in
their character.
■ The setting of this movie is decorated
with most beautiful flowers, balloons and
cards, as it is a flower store. Offering
most exquisite decorations for parties or
celebrations. In the store itself, you can
see that they took care of each corner in
the store and that there are no less
interesting scenery in the shop.
