“Autumn Leaves” INSTRUMENTAL (00:00 – 00:10)
ESTABLISHING SHOT of the outskirts of a forest in the middle
of autumn. The camera PANS from left to right taking in the
full extent of the scenery putting the audience in the
position of the camera. Cut to CLOSE-UP shot of a tree losing
its leaves and then cut to a CLOSE-UP of a running stream.
CUT TO
“Another day, another life, passes by just like mine, it’s not
complicated, another mind, another soul” (00:00 – 00:24)
A POINT OF VIEW shot of the character’s feet as they walk
along a path covered in leaves. Camera then cut’s to a TILT of
the character as she stops, starting from the knees and moving
upwards. There is then a CLOSE-UP of the character as she
bites her lip, which then cuts to another CLOSE-UP of her eyes
as she starts to weep. She then closes her eyes.

“Another body to grow old, it’s not complicated” (00:24 –
00:31)

“Do you ever wonder if the stars shine out for you? Float
down, like Autumn Leaves” (00:31 – 00:43)
A LONG SHOT of the female character and her friend inside the
bowling alley. They are laughing and giggling together whilst
being surrounded by extras. The camera then cuts to a MEDIUM
CLOSE-UP of one of the friend as she throws the ball towards
the pins. LOCKDOWN SHOT as the ball progresses down the lane
then cutting back to a MID SHOT as the female character jumps
up and hugs her friend.
CUT TO
“And hush now, close your eyes before the sleep, and you’re
miles away, and yesterday, you were here with me” (00:43 –
00:59)
3. In the STUDIO, the camera cuts to an EXTREME CLOSE UP as the
singer mouths the words “hush now”. It then cuts to a MID SHOT
allowing the camera to show the singer as he strums the
guitar, which then cuts to a CLOSE-UP of the singers’ face as
he sings the rest of the lyrics. The shot then BLURS out of
focus.
CUT TO
INSTRUMENTAL (00:59 – 01:08)
A LONG SHOT of autumnal leaves falling in slow motion
from a tree – the leaves fill the entire frame. Once
the last leaves have fallen, the shot then briefly
fades to black.
CUT TO
The LONG SHOT of the two girls at the tube station
then blurs into focus, before quickly cutting to a
MID SHOT of the two of them sitting down on the
train.
CUT TO
“Another tear, another cry, another place for us to
die, it’s not complicated” (01:08 – 01:18)
CLOSE-UP of the female character as she turns her
head to her friend. The camera then cuts to another
CLOSE-UP of the friend as she smiles and too turns to
her friend. The camera then zooms out to a MEDIUM
CLOSE-UP of the two girls together sharing a bag of
sweets. The female character picks up her iPod from
her lap and the camera cuts to an EXTREME CLOSE-UP of
the iPod which is playing Autumn Leaves.
CUT TO
“Another love that’s gone to waste, another light
lost from your face, it’s complicated” (01:08 – 1:30)
MID SHOT of the two girls walking around London, armin-arm. Then a mixture of shots, including LONG SHOTS
4. of iconic London locations and CLOSE-UPS to show the
girls’ expressions.
CUT TO
“Is it that it’s over or do birds still sing for you?
Float down, like Autumn Leaves, and hush now, close
your eyes before the sleep” (01:30 – 01:48)
BLACK AND WHITE MID SHOTS of the singer in the studio
performing on his guitar. The camera then cuts to an
EXTREME CLOSE-UP of the singers’ lips as he mouths
the lyrics.
CUT TO
“And you’re miles away, and yesterday, you were here
with me” (01:48 – 01:59)
A HIGH ANGLE SHOT looks down on the two girls playing
in the studio, laughing and throwing autumn leaves
over each other. The camera cuts to a MID SHOT to
focus as the leaves are being thrown left and right
across the screen, before the shot comes to an abrupt
stop. The shot then returns to a CLOSE-UP of the
singer.
CUT TO
“Ooh how I miss you, my symphony played the song that
carried you out” (01:59 – 02:10)
ESTABLISHING SHOT of the neighbourhood slowly ZOOMS
IN (LOCKDOWN) to get closer to the open door. There
is then an EXTREME CLOSE-UP SHOT of the open
newspaper on the front doorstep, focussing on the one
article on the obituaries page.
CUT TO
“And ooh how I miss you, and I miss you, and I wish
you’d stay” (02:10 – 02:21)
5. CLOSE-UP SHOTS of white flowers and peoples’ eyes in
a greyscale edit which quickly flicker between
previous random shots of the two girls together, with
the speed of each shot increasing slightly each time.
FADE TO BLACK
CUT TO
“Do you ever wonder if the stars shine out for you?
Float down, like Autumn Leaves” (02:21 – 02:33)
LONG SHOT of the original female character standing
in the initial setting, surrounded by the autumnal
leaves, looking down from a hillside. The camera then
cuts to an EXTREME CLOSE-UP looking side-on to the
character’s face as she looks down.
CUT TO
“And hush now” (02:33 – 02:36)
The singer in the STUDIO with an EXTREME CLOSE-UP of
his lips mouthing the words. BLACK AND WHITE EDIT.
CUT TO
“Close your eyes before the sleep” (02:36 – 02:40)
An EXTREME CLOSE-UP of the female character’s eyes as
she begins to cry.
CUT TO
“And you’re miles away, and yesterday, you were here
with me” (02:40 – 02:50)
A flashback to the shot of the two girls in the
studio with the leaves. It is a MID SHOT, but the
second girl slowly FADES OUT from the shot.
CUT TO
“Mhhh, mhh, mhhh, mhhh, mhhh, mho” (02:50 – 02:59)
6. A CLOSE-UP of an unidentified arm holding a bunch of
helium balloons in the initial setting.
CUT TO
“Touch down, like a seven-four-seven” (02:59 – 03:06)
A LONG SHOT shows the singer approach the female
character as she stands on the hill with the bunch of
balloons in his hand and hands them to her.
CUT TO
“Stay out” (03:06 – 03:10)
An EXTREME CLOSE-UP of the singer and the female
character holding hands.
CUT TO
“And we’ll live forever now” MUSIC FADES OUT (03:10 03:20)
A CLOSE-UP of the photograph of the two girls
together attached to the balloons before cutting back
to a MEDIUM CLOSE-UP of the balloons as they slowly
float off into the sunset and exit the frame.
