Should, Shouldn’t
Bruce is studying for some very
important exam, look at his room in the
next slide.

Here are some suggestion for Bruce. Which
statement do you agree with?
 He should start work earlier.

The rules of should and shouldn’t
1. we use should/shouldn’t when:
 It is / isn’t necessary to do something.
 It is / isn’t a good idea to do something.
2. We use should/shouldn’t to ask for advice (often begin with ‘I think’…)
 I think you should get up earlier.
 You shouldn’t leave your coffee on the computer.

 Discuss the situations below. Discuss what each person should and
shouldn’t do (give at least 4).
For example:
Carla is a student and she is very bad with money. She spends
everything on clothes and going out so that she doesn’t have no
money to buy books or anything more necessary. Her parents are
annoyed with her and don’t give her any extra money. But Carla’s
grandmother gives her extra money anytime she sees her.
