Mattancherry(old Kochi) is an old port town. Lots of communities from all over the world started settling here with a ma-
jor intention of trade since 14th century. Agricultural produces from the vast hinterland flowed to its markets to be sold or
exchanged for textiles, metals and other products of the European countries. Migrant communities such as Jews, Konkanis
and Kutchi Muslims(Kutchi Memons), though lesser in number, have also lived in Mattancherry for generations. These
communities enhance the cosmopolitan ambience of Mattancherry.
Today it lost it’s identity as the major trade centre of the region. Communities started moving out from the region because
of the lac of opportunities, Mattancherry, still have a mix of diverse cultural settlement. Each community have good intensity
of interactions between them. But the communities shows a tendency to isolate themselves from other communities. The shift
of the major economic activity, which was the prime factor of inter-community interaction, considerably reduced the chances
of interactions.
Identification of Palace

of intervention, which is

An old port town on the Arabian coast, which has more than1900 yeras of history. Kollam has had a strong commercial
reputation since 9th century. It is considered as one of the initial ports in indian coast.
The city is constricted between two natural treasures – Ashtamudi lake and the Arabian Sea. Main economy is generated
from Cashew, Coir, handloom and Tourism.
Kollam was one of the first District in India which tried to impliment IDDP(Integrated district devolopment plan) with public
participatory approach. Integrated district devolopment plan made by the authorities, neglects deep physical and cultural
connection of the fishermen settlement to the seafront. have with the place they live in. The final proposals as product of
participatory bottom-up approach is still failing in creating livability.
The intention of this demostration to give an oppertunity for authorities to understand issues in the
existing devolopment plan and how it can be modified in terms of proposals which actually gives
the oppertunities for the people to improve their life styles and economic status.
Selected demostration area was sea front of Kollam, which has the highest density of the people
and most of the inhabitants are fishermen.
Authorities intent to gradually move the fishermen from the area to create a better clean
face to the sea front, by creating a highway along the sea edge.
ISSUES :
Retaining and reorganising fishing harbour in coexistence with the settlement and open
spaces, yet maintaining cleanliness and creating an active, vibrant enviornment.

RESIDENTIAL DEVOLOPMENT - AL SAADIYAT MARINA, ABU DHABI.(2015)
Site is adjacent to New York University, Saadiyat. Scope was to design public interactive spaces in and around
the built environment, according the UPC requirements. Creating a mix of public and semi-public spaces, while
allowing pedestrian traffic from one side to the other side of the building and creating three prominent play
areas,as it was three plots amalgamated in to one.

Oppertunity for our involvement in this project came in veary
later stage. The constrution of roads, villas and club house
were already done.
Our scope was to reduce the environmental impact of the proj-
ect and improve livability.
Reduce the radiation created by the concreete road which was
already there.
Reduce the scale of the road keeping the size, to the standards
provided by local authority, to make it more pedestrian friendly.
