Some Basic Question For You
 Who is the Father of Computer ?
 What is a Computer ?
 What do you understand by Computer system ?
 What is hardware ?
 What is software ?
 What are the Benefits of computer ?
Father of Computer
 Charles babbage
 Charles Babbage, a British Mathematics professor, is regarded as the
Father of Computers.
 He was born in England in 1792 as the son of a rich banker from
Devon.
 He invented the first mechanical Computer during the period 1830 to
1850. This computer called as Babbage's Analytical Engine performed
basic mathematical function.
 This is used in modern computer design, so he is known as Father of
computer.
Babbage's Analytical Engine
What is computer ?
 The term ‘computer’ is derived from the word ‘compute’ which means
to ‘calculate’.
 Computer are automatic electronic devices that can perform complex
tasks by breaking them into simple calculations and doing them
extremely quickly.
 Computer is a machine that takes input in a specific form, processes
it and gives the output.
 A computer can nothing by itself, but once it is told how to do a job,
it does it much faster than a human being.
 They have ability to store, manipulate, and communicate information.
HISTORY
 Originally calculations were computed by humans, whose
job title was computers.
 These human computers were typically engaged in the
calculation of a mathematical expression.
 The calculations of this period were specialized and
expensive, requiring years of training in mathematics.
 The first use of the word "computer" was recorded in 1613,
referring to a person who carried out calculations, or
computations, and the word continued to be used in that
sense until the middle of the 20th century.
COMPUTER SYSTEM
 Computer system is a collection of Entites (hardware, software
and liveware)that are designed to receive, process, manage and
present information in a meaningful format.
 Any computer system will function properly and successfully if
and only if it will have following four sub systems in it:
 1.Hardware
 2.Software
 3.Data
 4.User
Types of Hardware
Types of Software
BENEFITS OF COMPUTER
 Speed
 Storage
 Data Security
 Ease of handling data
 Networking
 Efficient and wide range of computing
