1. Reading
Linked below is a set of Reading Comprehension Skill Cards. There are 8 skills – each of which have a short
text to read and a set of questions to answer.
This week, we would like you to choose to complete a different skill each day, by the end of the week, you
will have practised 5 skills.
Challenge: complete all 8 skill cards and spread them across the week.
Write your answers in your English book and get your adult to help you mark them afterwards.

2. Writing
On the following slide is a picture prompt with the tag line:
‘He had warned her about the book. Now it was too late.’
This week we would like you to write a story revolving around this image and line. You may choose to start
your story from the point you can see in the image or you may choose to backtrack and start your story at
the point of the warning, perhaps in ‘Mr Linden’s Library’. This is your choice. As for what the warning was
about, you may choose to be inspired by the image and have a jungle grow out of the book or you may take
the opportunity to let your imagination go wild! Again, this is your choice!
Your week should look like this:
Monday: Plan your story using a story mountain guide (see following slides for help).
Tuesday: Begin to draft write your story.
Wednesday: Finish draft writing your story.
Thursday: Edit and improve (see following slides for help).
Friday: Publish your story either in your English book or on nicer paper if you have some – could you draw a
picture to go with it?
