1. Hello everyone – Mrs Hutchinson here with your maths for the week.
Now – I can here you all going urrrrr when I say the focus this week is word problems but you don’t need to.
When writing these problems I have been a little naughty as I have purposefully added in some information that you
might not need.
Below I have taken an example word problem and highlighted all the information you need.
There are forty-three dogwood trees currently in the park. Park workers will plant nineteen more dogwood trees
today and twenty-nine more dogwood trees tomorrow. It took forty-nine workers to finish the work. How many
dogwood trees will the park have when the workers are finished ?
So this is the only information I really need to solve the problem. The part that talks about 49 workers is not useful
information so beware!!!
To solve this simple use column addition to add up 43 + 29 + 19 = 91
Have fun!
8. Maths for
Thursday.
These are all
division word
problems so the
bus stop method
will be useful. On
number 4 I have
used an unusual
unit of measure,
the dollar. You
will sometimes
have questions
that use of unit of
measure that we
don’t use e.g.
inches, dollars.
Treat is exactly
like £.
10. Well as it’s Friday I thought I would be kind. Please could you complete the multiplication and division facts
below. Just write the answer into you book.
