1. Contemporary Art and Design
Contemporary art is the art of today, produced by
artists who are living in the twenty-first century. Its
history describes the period timeframe that closely
connected to the present day. It is a certain
perspective of modern history. It provides an
opportunity to reflect on contemporary society and
the issues relevant to ourselves, and the world around
us.
From the perspective of the 2010s,
thus, contemporary history may
include the period since the mid-to-late
20th century, including the post-war
period and the Cold War and
would nearly always include the
period from about 1985 to present
which is within the memory of the
majority of living people.
Contemporary art is part of a
cultural dialogue that concerns
larger contextual frameworks such
as personal and cultural identity,
family, community, and nationality.
