Level Design Workflow
Idea
My idea of a side scrolling 2d game is a spaced theme on outer space I’ve had some
inspirations about my game similar to Galaga a retro vintage game that was released in
1979 and I had similar ideas on how to create my shooting arcade retro game with like a
similar space based theme to it with loads of enemy spaceship waves constantly firing at
you. And this game will be a fast paced game by dodging all of the enemy bullets and
destroying the enemy spaceships with an endless wave and each enemy ship you destroy
counts as a point and you can compete with other people on who gets the highest score in
the game. I had an idea on the level difficulty where you have to face different types of alien
battleships when they are shooting at you with bullets on a face paced type game and your
main character has to kill the alien enemy ship at the same time.
Visualisation / Idea
I had similarity ideas like this. It shows a space based theme to it and it and how you have to
destroy enemy ships and try to get the highest score as you can. As you can see I made the
enemy spaceship look like this, it makes sense on how it’s an unknown ball from out of
space that you’ve haven’t seen before and it just attacks your ship with endless enemies
coming towards you and shooting at you.
On game maker you can see an example on what my spaceship will look like on the game I
had similar ideas and inspiration on Galaga so I tried to make my main spaceship character
look kind of similar to the one in Galaga with a basic type of looking ship with two simple
shooting turrets on each side and a simple colour to make it stand out from the game.
Planning and Execution
I made a background that had the same aspects as Galaga with a simple plain black
background with loads of white dotted spots as stars and that’s where the player will
interact around that environment I chose this type of theme because it really suited the
game on how it would make sense and stand out where your main spaceship and the enemy
spaceship fights around the map by dodging attacks and killing each other.

Blocking
I had some glitches when I was planning the game and I showed some things that needs
fixing like how you can see in this picture on how an enemy spaceship is slightly out of the
environment. But I manage to fix the solution and tried to make the enemy spaceship spawn
inside the environment by adjusting to make things work, by sorting it out on the game
maker when I added it by using a code to fix the problem, so far the game worked I just
adjusted some little things to make the design of the game work okay.

In this game I added some extra enemies to make it more interesting and a bit difficult to
make the game more competitive and I used the double laser for the second enemy I put
those two together to make a stronger enemy compare to the first one I did.
For these two pictures at the right side I used those two as the main player shoots out from
since I designed my main character spaceship like how I made it with two miss ile launcher
so two grey missile shoots out and at the middle it shoots out a blue laser beam I gave these
two abilities to my main character so the main character spaceship has a fighting chance.
When I tested it out on the end the aspects of the game was good and worked out well it
suited everything on how the system works like how to main spaceship and the enemy ships
fight together with the background of stars and it’s just a really enjoyable game for people
who are into a retro vintage style.
Final Testing
I used the snipping tool to crop this image on my game, this shows that the game is running
smoothly. I’ve been testing the game to find if there’s any faults that needs repairing but I
found that there was nothing and I thought that the game is okay, it shows that all of the
aspects of the game works that there is no glitches or bugs that are there to be found. I
recorded a video to show the gameplay of my game and shows that it works well all of the
design in the game, the sprites and objects and all the sounds and background in the game.
One thing I didn’t like as much was making the game itself, I found it complicated by adding
all the codes and stuff, if I could do this again I would improve it by doing a better design
and adding more extras in the game. This would make the game more interesting and fun
more people would want to play it.
