News Report for Plan UK's 'Because I am a Girl' Campaign
1. News report for Plan UK’s ‘Because I am a girl’ Campaign
Michael: Good evening, and welcome to BBC Evening News. I’m Michael McCauley and with
me is Nazish Hussain. The latest news today is about Plan UK’S Charitable campaign
‘Because I am a girl’.
Nazish: This campaign was founded over 70 years ago, and it’s already ranked in the top 10
international development agencies by reputation, size and scope. The main aim of this
campaign is to unleash power to girls all over the world, and to secure girls a bright and
promising future.
Michael: This campaign is targeting everyone out there who is able to support and help the
girls. To name specifics it’s said that they want to have an effect on women as they will be
able to get them to feel sorry for those girls most, as they are of the same gender.
Nazish:As for the success for this campaign, it’s on a great start. Already it’s helped over
100,000 girls worldwide, and that number definitely speaks for itself, as far as the success is
concerned. It’s also a more-than $800 million organization, and that again shows its success.
Michael:There are many techniques that this campaign uses in order to achieve its success.
And one of them is a website. The website shows a strong effective image of four girls
smiling holding books and colours that connote to each girl has the right to education, this is
to highlight the fact each girl is satisfied what they got and maybe the campaign wants other
people to feel guilty in on how spoilt they really are.
Nazish:Another technique that this campaign used is a social media site which is well known
and that is Facebook. On the Facebook page that they have created, they have a simple and
easy way of signing up to the petition, which is helpful as people will be able to do it in just a
matter of minutes. Also, they use images which create sympathy for the women who don’t
have as much as others do, which would urge people to help those unfortunate girls. As well
as that they have also added a video on the page which is an insight into the life of girls who
don’t have privileges.
Michael:They also have a TV advert which is very persuasive through the use of emotional
images to emphases what girls are going through in different countries. The video had
emotional music to highlight that the video is very emotional and the fact the video wants
to exaggerate what girls are going through and why it’s not fair. The campaigns logo kept on
coming up in the video, to allow the campaign to stand out. All the images are very sad, so
that the audience shows sympathy towards the campaign ‘Because I am girl’.
Nazish:That’s all we have for you today. Join us tomorrow when we tell you about the
Water Week campaign. See you then.
