2. From my research into costume worn by Indie-rock artists I can say that
their fashion links to how their audience would dress in terms of costume.
Their costumes fits into their audience regular everyday appearance as the
lifestyle that Indie- rock artists live are more relaxed and wild so they need
to wear something simple and comfortable. And the audience also live
more of a laidback lifestyle based on their age they would wear more ,
relaxed, grunge – almost ‘unwashed’ looking and quite baggy clothes. So
the costumes that Indie-rock artists wear subconsciously identifies with the
readership, so they have to link their costumes to fit the standard of what
their readerships would wear.

3. The cover star that will be a girl and she will be wearing a costume that reflects and highlights the key
aspects of the Indie-rock genre, the costumes chosen will show that ‘I don’t care attitude but also a
fashionable costume that is in the trends from the 90s that looks stylish and creative using statement
pieces to show that the fashion trend from this genre is unique but stylish. Dark and cool tones will be
used for the costume along with blacks to show that the colours represent the genre as the statement
colours make an impact as they are bold and eye catching. The colours will leave an impact on the
readership because of the laidback style of the costume choices that they can relate to.
To keep the Indie vibes going on the costume coordination will be dark or light denim ripped jeans to
show that the genre is more about comfortableness and standing out rather than blending in with the
majority, they would rather stand out. A graphic t-shirt or a plain but dark coloured shirt short sleeve or
longer sleeve is optional,to show that these colours are dominant within this genre. A parka jacket or a
camo jacket will be worn as these are stereotypically how others assume that indie-rock artists would
dress so it helps to fit in with the reader's perspective.

5. The jewellery would be simple pieces such as chokers or something that makes a statement but
has a good combination with the costume, such as simple statement earrings and bracelets.
Shoes would be chunky heavy boots like DR MARTENS to emphasize that these shoes give the
artist a sense of power as the shoes are bold but at the same very stylish.
The mise-en-scene found on each Indie-Rock artists is the particular dress sense which is layering
costume and wearing oversized costumes . As for hair and makeup it will be something
straightforward and simple but the hairstyle will be loose and messy such as a messy braid or
messy wavy hair to show that indie artists are not that caring towards their look as they are more
relaxed. Makeup is simple with winged eyeliner and dark smokey eye but is blended out.
Nude,soft toned lipsticks or dark lipsticks are an exception based on the individual's choice.
The overall costume will give off a carefree vibe off which makes the artists seem more realistic
as they do not heed another person's opinion but their own as indie artists are more about
expressing themselves and being confident at the same time. This creates a very 90’s vibe from
the artists to show their style is vintage but is always in fashion.

7. In this image of HAIM ,the setting is a plain red
background suggests that this group's status is edgy and
different from other artists suggests this also suggests
group's genre is Indie-Rock as the colour red is associated
with this genre as seen on Indie music magazines such as
NME and Q. The black coloured costumes creates a
classic but edgy look to the group as leather jackets are
associated with the rock genre but the fact that indie
artists wear them, reflects the blending of the two genres.
The costumes are stylish but different to what's in fashion
as the costumes are plain but they stand out due to the
contrast of the background. The costume teamed with
sleek hair and flawless simple makeup provides a sense of
femininity but with a polished look as everything blends in
well with each other,most importantly their style looks
relaxed and chilled .Their hair is styled perfectly which
draws the reader's attention to skim look at the group to
see how well their style is. The shades portrays that one of
the members is very mysterious which still draws you in.
The hat also gives off a playful vibe in comparison to the
polished looks. These costume keeps the girls looking
youthful but with a hint of edginess.
HAIM makes direct eye contact with the
camera to suggest confidence but also
a sense of arrogance as they know that
they are attractive and they want you
to look at them.

8. Haim are a band made up of sisters and this
noticeable based on their physical
appearance but also the close proximity of
their body language as they are all highly
attractive feminine female.
They way in which they are sitting in the position of
leaning against each shows that they are close to each
other in a casual manner aswell making them seem
friendly.But the position shows that the one in the middle
is the leader singer as her overall look is different to the
others as she has more layered clothings which makes
her seem cooler and more noticeable. The lighting is
bright in order to complement the background colour.
Their facial expressions varies from each person as the
girl on the left looks very cool and chilled, the girl on the
right looks carefree whereas the girl in the middle has an
aloof look to show that she's serious and more mature
than the rest.

9. This image captures the Plastiscines quirkiness perfectly to
showcase that each member in the group has a
completely different style. The hairstyles are very
bohemian but also messy chic to show that their looks are
their uniqueness.The natural makeup with eyeliner shows
that simplicity is better as their eyes are more defined so
that's where everyone will be staring at making direct eye
contact with the audience. Their costumes are layered
and oversized with some funkiness to show the key aspect
of the genre. Each of the members stand out individually
because of their fashion styles such as dark and lighter
tones contrasting with one another. You can feel a
vintage vibe from the costumes as they feel very vintage
but is still considered fashionable but relaxed.
The red in their costume emphasizes the power and strength of
their appearance and music.The body language of the 3 girls
shows that they are close and casual with one another and the
positioning shows that the one in the middle is the leader as she
stands out the most for her light tone clothing contrasting with
the darker clothing.They look carefree and confident at the
same because they feel confident with their look.

10. The setting is in public on a street with dull hued buildings that emphasizes
their clothing really well. The background is a mise-en-scene as indie
groups love the outside. There is natural lighting which compliments the rest
of the image in having a dull white hue. The positioning makes them look
as if they are walking which is a natural pose for this genre to be walking
around in public. Direct eye contact is maintained.

11. This image of Indie-rock singer Leslie Feist portrays all the
iconography of Indie-rock. The block black background
shows that the attention and focus should be on Leslie
making her stand out against the dark colour. The setting
shows that Leslie is performing on a stage and the props
ranges from her guitar and microphone shows that she is
about to start singing or is in the middle of singing, and these
are associated with the indie-rock genre. The lighting is a dull
hued which emphasizes more of Leslie image to the
audience and shows that the colours are related to the
genre because of the dullness of it. The frame is a mid shot
showing the most important into the picture which is of herself
and her instrument. The angle taken shows that it was a
downwards shot as her eyes were facing the direction of the
floor giving an illusion of the picture being titled. The main
image is entirely of Leslie making her the main focus. Her
costume is simple with dull colours and layerings of a jacket
making her contrast against the background perfectly. Her
hair has a bohemian wave to give it a very indie-vibe and
her makeup is very simple and natural. Her posture shows
