This document discusses social and emotional intelligence (SEI) and its importance for strong workplaces and personal success. It defines SEI as the ability to be aware of one's own emotions and those of others to manage relationships and oneself. The document presents a four quadrant model of SEI and provides evidence that developing soft skills like SEI can improve productivity, communication, client retention, and employee satisfaction in veterinary practices as well as increase health, relationships, and life satisfaction generally. It also identifies common reasons for career derailment being related to poor SEI competencies and describes an SEI profile assessment tool.
