projects are delayed with over 90% of these being
for failure of managerial aspects which shows
that companies have the ability and skills to
complete the project but need to be far more
organized in their approach to ensure successful
and timely completion.
This is where Project Governance is essential !!

Project governance
Project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product,
service, or result.
Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and
techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements.

Definition
Project Governance refers to framework, functions, and processes that
guide project management activities in order to create a unique product,
service, or result to meet organizational, strategic, and operational goals.

1. Project Governance provides guidance to Project managers, sponsors and
key stakeholders for all type of projects within organization.
2. No Project Governance Framework fits all projects. It should tailored to
culture, type of projects and needs.
3. Project Governance should defined,planed and established early in
project life cycle.

decision-making model, tools, procedures, and documented policies.

It ensures clarity of decision making and empowers the accountable person
within the organization. Also the consistency of accountability throughout
the project’s life ensures decision-making consistency and focussing of the
objectives and benefits.

o Service delivery ownership determines project ownership, like:
A sponsor who is responsible and accountable for the project and who
secures its outputs. A project manager who will manage the project on a
day-to-day basis. An operations manager who will manage the project
outputs after project closure. A steering committee that provides
strategic direction and monitors the project.

o Separate project decision making from stakeholder management.
Usually decision making is most critical role in projects, this role is
assigned to steering committee, so to avoide "role overlapping" issues
and to “keeping Permanent neutrality” the governance model should
keep the steering committee out of detailed project management
activities.

Project governance structures are established because organization
structures generally do not provide the necessary framework to deliver a
project. Projects require flexibility, high levels of sustained focus and timely

PWC reported that in the UK 45% of capital projects are delayed with over 90% of these being for failure of managerial aspects which shows that companies have the ability and skills to complete the project but need to be far more organized in their approach to ensure successful and timely completion. This is where Project Governance is essential !!

Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements. PMBOK6 Definition Project Governance refers to framework, functions, and processes that guide project management activities in order to create a unique product, service, or result to meet organizational, strategic, and operational goals.

No Project Governance Framework fits all projects. It should tailored to culture, type of projects and needs. 3. Usually decision making is most critical role in projects, this role is assigned to steering committee, so to avoide "role overlapping" issues and to “keeping Permanent neutrality” the governance model should keep the steering committee out of detailed project management activities.
