2. MR. A.K. RAMANUJAN
Ramanujan is one of those selected poets
from India, whose writings always clinch its
readers
He mastered this art over five languages,
Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu and Kannad
The winner of Sahitya Akademi award, is also
being recognized for his demand for due of
local, non-standard dialects

3. He was born to Mr.
Krishnanswamy, an astronomer on
16 March 1929
Ramanujan was educated at
Marimallappa's High School, Mysore.
Then he went to University of
Mysore and completed PhD in
linguistic from Indiana University

4. He worked as a lecturer at Quilon and
Balgaum and then at Maharaja Sayajirao
University for eight years
He even taught at big name
universities, like Harvard University,
USA

5. He began poetic career with The
Striders that was being published
by Oxford Universities Press in in
1966
Followed by Hokkulalli Huvilla, No
Lotus in the Navel, in 1969 and
then his career of being a writer
flourished rapidly
Till 1995, he kept on using dexterous

6. One of his article is always in demand:"Is
There an Indian Way of Thinking?" (1990).He
explains cultural ideologies and behavioral
manifestations thereof in terms of an Indian
patriotism
redefined
psychology
He worked in departments of South Asian
Languages and Civilizations. He made
contributions in translation of Indian
literature in English, so that it can explore
new heights.

7. translated nine literary pieces.
Three of his poetry collections have came in
his local dialect Kannada, that he has been
supporting...
IN 1976 he received prestigious Padma Sri
from government of India and in 1999, he
posthumously received Sahitya Akademi
Award

9. It is because of potboilers like Ramanujan
that Indian literature in English reached to
new heights. He was there to stand for local
dialects and at same moment made us proud
with writing in English.
