Maximizing Your Research Visibility and Impact: A Step-by-Step Guide
Session 5: Boosting the Visibility of the Research -
Make a Paper ID
Enhancing the visibility and impact of research is crucial for disseminating knowledge
widely and making progress. While publishing high-quality papers in scientific
journals is an essential step, it is only half the journey toward receiving future impacts
and citations. To increase research visibility and impact, researchers need to expose
their research output to the widest possible audience by using the proper “Research
Tools”. It is important to note that the visibility of an article has a significant impact on
its citation count, rather than just the merit of the article. Although researchers spend
considerable time and effort writing their research for publication, they often stop their
work after publication. However, the dissemination and archiving of an article are
essential phases in the publication life cycle. This webinar series provides a step-by-
step guide on how the effective use of various research tools can help increase the
visibility and impact of researchers' published research, leading to an increase in
citations and improvement in university ranking.

High Impact Research
Don't forget, the quality of your work will always matter. Helping the world to be a better place is
essential to gain attention to your research work!
However, it is difficult to distinguish whether
high citations are due to quality or visibility
(Ale Ebrahim et al., 2014).

Post-production misconduct: an emerging trend in scientific fraud

Traditionally, research misconduct has largely fallen into three
types:
1. Fabrication,
2. Falsification, and
3. Plagiarism.
But, in the digital age of scientific publishing and with the
increasing use of metrics, new forms of scientific manipulation are
emerging that do not affect the research within an article but do
enhance its impact, so-called ‘post-production misconduct’.

• Citation rings, where colleagues agree to extensively cite each other’s
articles, regardless of relevance;
• Coercive citations, where peer reviewers and editors ‘encourage’
authors to cite the reviewers’ own research in order to gain a good
review;
• Creating co-authors from prestigious universities to facilitate
publication;
• Buying a place on an author byline of an article submitted for
publication by a writing company;
• More radically, hacking journal databases and adding your name to the
byline of an accepted article.

The data in KeyWords Plus® are words or phrases that
frequently appear in the titles of an article's references
but do not appear in the title of the article itself.
Based upon a special algorithm that is unique to
Clarivate databases, KeyWords Plus® enhances the
power of cited-reference searching by searching across
disciplines for all the articles that have cited references in
common.

The Altmetric Attention Score
Research Visibility and Impact Center-(RVnIC)
©2023-2025 Dr. Nader Ale Ebrahim
The Altmetric Attention Score
is a weighted count derived
from an automated algorithm
to reflect the relative reach of
each type of source. Some
sources have more weight
points than the others. For
example, a newspaper story is
more likely to bring attention
to the research output than a
tweet.

Discussion
We collected 534 review reports for the same manuscript, varying only
whether the corresponding author shown was relatively unknown, highly
prominent, or not mentioned. Our results document strong evidence for
a status bias in peer review: When the prominent researcher was shown
as the corresponding author, significantly more peers accepted the
invitation to review the paper than in the other conditions. More
importantly, the paper with the prominent author also received
significantly fewer “reject” recommendations and its content was
assessed much more favorably than the manuscript showing the less
prominent or no author name.

What Is a Journal Index, and Why is Indexation
Important?
A journal index, or a list of journals organized by
discipline, subject, region, and other factors, can be used
by other researchers to search for studies and data on
certain topics. As an author, publishing your research in
an indexed journal increases the credibility and visibility
of your work. Here we help you to understand journal
indexing better - as well as benefit from it.

•When documents are converted to PDF, all metadata
should be correct (especially the author and title).
•The completeness of document metadata is very
crucial.
•Some search engines use PDF metadata to identify the
file or to display information about the article on the
search results page.
•It may also be beneficial to give a meaningful file name
to each article.

Maximizing Your Research Visibility and Impact: A Step-by-Step Guide Session 5: Boosting the Visibility of the Research - Make a Paper ID

  • 2. Enhancing the visibility and impact of research is crucial for disseminating knowledge widely and making progress. While publishing high-quality papers in scientific journals is an essential step, it is only half the journey toward receiving future impacts and citations. To increase research visibility and impact, researchers need to expose their research output to the widest possible audience by using the proper “Research Tools”. It is important to note that the visibility of an article has a significant impact on its citation count, rather than just the merit of the article. Although researchers spend considerable time and effort writing their research for publication, they often stop their work after publication. However, the dissemination and archiving of an article are essential phases in the publication life cycle. This webinar series provides a step-by- step guide on how the effective use of various research tools can help increase the visibility and impact of researchers' published research, leading to an increase in citations and improvement in university ranking. Post-production misconduct: an emerging trend in scientific fraud Research Visibility and Impact Center-(RVnIC) ©2023-2025 Dr. Nader Ale Ebrahim 10 Traditionally, research misconduct has largely fallen into three types: 1. Fabrication, 2. Falsification, and 3. Plagiarism. But, in the digital age of scientific publishing and with the increasing use of metrics, new forms of scientific manipulation are emerging that do not affect the research within an article but do enhance its impact, so-called ‘post-production misconduct’. Nobel and Novice: Author Prominence Affects Peer Review Research Visibility and Impact Center-(RVnIC) ©2023-2025 Dr. Nader Ale Ebrahim Discussion We collected 534 review reports for the same manuscript, varying only whether the corresponding author shown was relatively unknown, highly prominent, or not mentioned. Our results document strong evidence for a status bias in peer review: When the prominent researcher was shown as the corresponding author, significantly more peers accepted the invitation to review the paper than in the other conditions. More importantly, the paper with the prominent author also received significantly fewer “reject” recommendations and its content was assessed much more favorably than the manuscript showing the less prominent or no author name. Publish Your Work In A Journal With The Highest Number Of Indexing Research Visibility and Impact Center-(RVnIC) ©2023-2025 Dr. Nader Ale Ebrahim 48 What Is a Journal Index, and Why is Indexation Important? A journal index, or a list of journals organized by discipline, subject, region, and other factors, can be used by other researchers to search for studies and data on certain topics. As an author, publishing your research in an indexed journal increases the credibility and visibility of your work. Here we help you to understand journal indexing better - as well as benefit from it. Source: https://www.aje.com/arc/what-is-a-journal-index-and-why-is-indexation-important/

Select Correct Metadata Research Visibility and Impact Center-(RVnIC) ©2023-2025 Dr. Nader Ale Ebrahim 49 •When documents are converted to PDF, all metadata should be correct (especially the author and title). •The completeness of document metadata is very crucial. •Some search engines use PDF metadata to identify the file or to display information about the article on the search results page. •It may also be beneficial to give a meaningful file name to each article.
