Flyovers have been constructed in Dhaka, Bangladesh since 2004 to alleviate traffic congestion caused by rail crossings. The first flyover in Mohakhali reduced jam times at a rail crossing from hours to minutes. Subsequent flyovers were built at Khilgaon, Kuril Bisworoad, Banani Kakoli, Mayor Hanif, and Magbazar Mouchak. While flyovers provided initial traffic relief, they failed to fully solve congestion issues. Critics argue flyovers are not a long term solution and that Dhaka needs improved public transportation and traffic management instead of additional flyovers.

2. Flyovers In Dhaka City:
1. Mohakhali flyover can be recognized as the country's
first flyover which was completed in 2004.
-Flyover was constructed to ease the traffic jam of
Mohakhali rail crossings.
-Thousands of people were released from Rail crossing
jam in a few minutes everyday.
3. 2. Then the second one is Khilgaon flyover which was
completed in 2005.
-The jam of Khilgaon rail crossing was about six hours a
day.
-Because of the traffic on this route, due to the passage
of the train about 72 times every day.
-Now it takes a minute or two minutes to cross the way.
4. 3. Then Kuril Bisworoad flyover 2013,
4. Bonani Kakoli flyover 2016,
5. Mayor Hanif flyover 2013,
6. Magbazar Mouchak flyover 2017

5. Economic Impact:
-Looking from the economic point of view, each vehicle
has cost allotted to them which we term as value of
time.
-So reducing delay time and controlling the volume of
flow, building flyovers reduces this cost.
-Reduction of accidents due to flyovers will surely be
beneficial in this regard.
-Cost behind the requirement of guard in conflicting
crossing would reduce.
6. -While building a flyover one must always take into
account the benefit-cost ratio.
-Dhaka is now being called the traffic capital of the
world due to such traffic jam.
-This traffic jam made the city one of the worst cities to
live in.
-The average traffic speed in Dhaka city is only 7 km/h
which is almost equal to an average persons walking
speed.
-Which ultimately eats up 3.2 million working hours a
day , causing Bangladesh to lose billions of dollars every
year.
Previously there was traffic on one
road now flyovers showing us
traffic on them ,this flyovers failed
to solve the traffic problem
Economic Impact:
7. Environmental impact:
This is the picture of
inaugaration day.
Currently the illigal occupier
are polluting the place
opening small business.
Garbage stack and drug
addicts are lying intoxicated
under the flyover.
Flyover left the downstreets
under negligence that
waterlogging become
common fact.
8. Hopes and suggestion:
-Critics suggest that flyovers are not a solution to traffic
congestion.
-At a time when many countries are deconstructing their
flyovers Bangladesh is going the opposite.

9. -Dhaka is the fastest growing city in the world.
These people need
more and more public
transport !
“I think the solution to traffic gridlock in Dhaka is public
transport and traffic management as opposed to building flyovers
which will eventually have to be demolished,” said Professor Shamsul
Hoque. (BUET)
These roads needs proper
traffic management.
