So, What is Sting?
 It is a deceptive way to track the truth behind
any particular issue or to catch a person who is
doing something wrong to common people,
wrong to government, wrong to any thing
which is beneficial for the society. It is
sometimes even done on suspect basis
 It has long history in US ,being legal* their
 It is illegal or not permitted in the countries
like Sweden.
Purpose Of Sting
 Investigation
 To collect the evidence
 Prevention of specific crime to happen
 Revealing factual data
 Revealing scams
 To investigate faults in public sector schemes
 To know the implementation of any particular
scheme
 To see allotment of funds etc.
But, Broadly we can come to a
solution that Sting is all about
“Investigation”;
not “investigation” is all about Sting.
Investigation is of three types;
 Open camera investigation
 Documented investigation
 Hidden camera investigation
Open Camera Investigation
 Public knows about shooting

 Questions being asked from random
personalities
 Likewise; crime news, hospital news etc.
Documented Investigation

personalities
 Camera is open to all
 Generally for office bearers
 Demands documents from government officials
Hidden Camera Investigation

 Reveal scams
 Facilitate people to know inner side
information
Cons or Negatives of Sting

aspect of democratic authority’s
responsibility regarding implementation of
Sting Operation
 Will discuss it in terms of Four pillars of
democracy.
Legislative;

must favors addressing of Sting Operation in
broadcasting bill.

society

obligations on
accused
 Uma khurana case
Negative Sting

 Exposing political
implications

Executive;
 Office bearer must govern conduct of media
 They must define extent media can sting a
person's life
 Define Whom they can sting.
 Like In US, it is FBI and Federal government
to use hidden cameras.
Judiciary;
 Set code of conduct
 There should be some strict guidelines
 Proper law should be there
 Whom should be allowed to Sting
Media;
 Need to define who will benefit as results of
sting
 Commitment towards democratic
accountability
 Does it fulfill social responsibility in revealing
wrong doings
 Whose interests are being affected
