In this presentation, Arpan introduces IoT and impact areas in the next five years. Arpan is interested in developing an IoT application to help address the problems of congestion and accidents on roads.
1. Internet of Things (IoT)

2. Why did I choose IoT??
• The concept of Internet of Things (IoT) holds a lot of potential. It is
futuristic in design and if implemented properly, there are a number
of advantages that can be made use of.
• Billions of devices can be connected to each other and they can
communicate amongst themselves by sharing data and work in a more
efficient manner.
• Huge amounts of data are generated from the devices that we use
and this could help businesses serve consumers better from the
analysis of such data, by making good use of data analytics.
3. 5 years from now…
• According to an estimate made by Cisco, there are going to be 50
billion connected devices by 2020. This could be possible due to
declining sensor costs, increase in computing and processing power,
low-cost data storage and high bandwidth connectivity.
• It is believed that industries like manufacturing, retail trade, finance
and insurance, information services and others stand to gain the most
from IoT.
• Compelling benefits from IoT such as cost savings, improved asset
utilization and improved productivity would lead to more enterprises
taking initiatives to adopt IoT-oriented processes.
4. If offered an internship??
• It would be an incredible opportunity for me to work on a project on the
“Internet of Things” as I would stand to gain a lot of exposure and
develop skills by hands-on experience and thereby, adding value to the
organization.
• Given a choice, I would like to work on a project where an ‘Intelligent
Traffic Control System’ can be developed. Why?
This system could record data related to traffic conditions, weather
conditions, and it can be used in association with other city transport
systems giving them important updates. Such a system could help
reduce common problems like traffic congestion and road accidents.
• I feel that such a project can be of immense help to any city and to the
public, in general.
