The Padma ,Sangskrit meaning Lotus Flower is
mentioned in Hindu mythology. As a byname For the
Goddess Lakshmi.
It is the main distributary of the Ganges. The name
Padma is Given to the lower part of the Bhagirathi River.
The Bangla Name of this river is Podda.

7. Geography
The Padma enters Bangladesh from India
near Nawabganj and meets the Jamuna near
aricha . But finally meets With Meghna near
Chandpur and adopts its name Meghna
before flowing into the Bay of Bengal. The
Padma forms the whole of the southern
boundary of the Pabna district of about 120
km. Rajsahi, a major city in Western
Bangladesh is situated on the north bank of
the padma.

Farakka Barrage on West
Bengal , the maximum
flows in the Padma
river were reduced. It
created a lot of problems
such as, loss of fish spaces
increasing saltwater etc.
9. Our dream, The Padma Bridge
The Padma Bridge, Bangladesh s
Largest estimated project. However the
future of the Bridge became uncertain
when World Bank cancelled its 1.2 billion
Over corruption allegations. But the
Govt. of Bangladesh started the work
without the loan and hired a Chinese
firm to construct the 6.15 km main part
of the bridge. Govt. hired a South
Korean firm to supervise this mega
project.
They have a dream to finish the project
by 2018.
