2. SWIMMING POOL TYPES AND DESIGNS
A swimming pool is a water retaining structure used for
purposes such as leisure and exercise.
Pools can be sunk into the ground or built above it, as
a freestanding construction or as part of a building or
other structure such as a ship.
DEFINITION:
3. SWIMMING POOL TYPES
• As the name suggest, this pool generally
above the ground level
• This pool is suitable for middle class
family, it is one of the most affordable
pool styles
• Besides, digging a pool is a challenge
with certain types of lands and rocky
areas, it’s easy to install and does not
entail an elaborate procedure
Above-Ground Pool
4. SWIMMING POOL TYPES
• As the name suggests, an architectural
pool necessarily must have structure and
symmetry.
• It's all about precise lines and layout,
that more often than not correspond to
the shape of the house
• Besides, these pools are usually designed
by an architect, as it involves a lot of
planning and sophistication
• Generally, these pools are built while
constructing the house, since it takes into
account the plot area, building plan

5. SWIMMING POOL TYPES
• An indoor pool is exactly what it sounds
like – inside an establishment, with a roof
on top, and insulated by at least three
walls.
• This style entails a simple layout and is
primarily built for swimming or training
around the year, especially in cold
climates.
• Besides, running an indoor heating pool
costs less than outdoor ones, since the
pool room is insulated and the heat is
less likely to escape

6. SWIMMING POOL TYPES
• Infinity pools also have a few other
names including, vanishing edge pools,
zero edge, negative edge, or infinity
edge pools.
• The structures are custom-built, and
they’re designed to highlight a grand
view.
• This pools creates an illusion of a water
edge where it seems like one side ends
in a waterfall

7. SWIMMING POOL TYPES
• Pool events constitute a significant part
of the Olympics, and as such, those
competitions take place in a mega
water arena.

swimming clubs, Olympic training
centers, and other such dedicated
establishments.

8. SWIMMING POOL TYPES
• A lap pool is typically constructed for
fitness and health purposes.
• They are usually long (often more than
50 ft.) and narrow, allowing swimmers to
practice lengthy strides.
• They have a rectangular shape and
may include features that contribute to
the user’s fitness and agility.

• Reinforced concrete
• With a prefabricated structure in
galvanized steel wall panels
• With expanded polystyrene formwork
• In fiberglass

10. SWIMMING POOL DESIGN
Geometric: rectangular, square, oval or round.
Complex : freeform, kidney shaped, Grecian, etc.
Swimming Pool Shapes, Dimensions, Depth
•For swimming purposes, the minimum depth for swimming is 1.20
meters.
•If, in addition to swimming, there is also a trampoline one-meter
high in relation to the water surface, a depth of 2.5 meters is
recommended.
•If the trampoline exceeds one meter in height up to two meters
or three, a minimum depth of 3 meters is recommended.
Pools are generally 25m or 50m long, but they can be
any size and shape
11. SWIMMING POOL DESIGN
Generally, there are four shapes of water depth:
• Flat: same depth at both ends of the swimming pool.
• Sloped: pool floor gradient starts with a 50 cm depth
and progressively continues down to the desired
depths
• Spooned: the bottom is first sloping and then creates
a sinking with the shape of a spoon, so as to ensure
maximum depth in the diving area
• U-shaped: the deepest part is at the center of the
pool.

• Trampoline, in the pools that allow you to practice
diving
