Join us for the next meetups — http://www.meetup.com/Get-the-SWAG-on/ Nicolas Nova is a design researcher, ethnographer and co-founder of the Near Future Laboratory. His work is about identifying weak signals as well as exploring people’s needs, motivations and contexts to map new design opportunities and chart potential futures. Nicolas has given talks and exhibited his work on the intersections of design, technology and the near-future in venues such SXSW, AAAS, O’Reilly Emerging Technology Conference and the design week in Milano, the Institute for the Future, the the MIT Medialab. He holds a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction from the Swiss Institute of Technology in Lausanne and has been a visiting researcher at the Art Center School of Design (Pasadena). He is also Professor at the Geneva University of Arts and Design (HEAD–Genève) and curator for Lift Conference, a series of international events about digital culture and innovation.

Ruby has a lot of standard libraries from Ruby 1.8. I promote them democratically with GitHub today via default and bundled gems. So, I'm working to extract them for Ruby 3.4 continuously and future versions. It's long journey for me. After that, some versions may suddenly happen LoadError at require when running bundle exec or bin/rails, for example matrix or net-smtp. We need to learn what's difference default/bundled gems with standard libraries. In this presentation, I will introduce what's the difficult to extract bundled gems from default gems and the details of the functionality that Ruby's require and bundle exec with default/bundled gems. You can learn how handle your issue about standard libraries.

Syngulon’s technology expands the capacity for selection of microorganisms. The ability to select individual microbes with a behavior of interest is essential, whether for simple cloning at the bench, or for industry-scale production. Synthetic biology uses the concept of “bioengineering” to improve or modify existing genetic systems to create microbes with desired behaviors, and Syngulon uses this approach to develop its selection technologies. This selection technology is based on bacteriocins, ribosomally-produced peptides naturally made by most bacteria to kill competitive microbial species. These bacteriocins can have a limited or wide target range against other microbial species. This technology offers advantageous over antibiotic selection for several reasons: it avoids the use of antibiotics in the first place, helping to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistant microbes. The technology also increases product yield; as bacteriocins are generally smaller peptides, they do not impose a heavy metabolic burden on the producing cell. They can have a wide target specificity, helping to avoid genetic drift. Finally, our system is 100% plasmid-based (e.g. without chromosomal mutations), making it applicable for use in any E. coli strains.

The company Flutterwave is headquartered in San Francisco, California, United States. In 2016, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, Olugbenga Agboola, and Adeleke Adekoya established Flutterwave. It offers a payment infrastructure to international merchants and payment service providers throughout Africa. The company operates in various African countries including Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, South Africa, and others. They focus on digital payments, helping businesses accept and process payments on various channels like the web, mobile, ATM, and POS. Recently, they’ve been in the news due to allegations of misconduct within the company, which has affected their reputation and value. Flutterwave is an essential player in the African fintech landscape, aiming to drive growth for banks and businesses through digital payment solutions. The Flutterwave scandal involves allegations of misconduct and inappropriate behaviour towards female employees by the company’s co-founder and CEO, Olugbenga Agboola.
