Blair Witch

2. When looking at the Mise En Scene the mood created is a creepy
peaceful atmosphere. That has the audience wondering what is
going on. The information given is the institution logo which
informs the audience who has created this film. The setting the
logo in the clouds. It has high key lighting. The use of blue white
and grey give a calm feel. This then fades to the next shot slowly
this gives a sense of something is going to happen. The use of a
mid shot is used for the logo. The shot moves quick as the film
is more important. Its like the logo zooms out. The use of non-
diegetic music is used it is slow music that is parallel with what is
happening on screen. The music sets the mood and flows
everything together. The text is in the middle to show it is
important. This is so the audience know who again created the
film. It is in a 3D font so it ls like the text is going to pop out in
front of you. The sun shining behind it shows it is powerful and
cloud around it allows it push through.
3. The mise en scene in this shot has high key lighting it allows us to see the
scenery clearly as it is in the day. The colors consist of green yellow which
convey the colors of nature. There is no characters yet which creates
suspense. The setting is in the woods. The mood created is a peaceful
atmosphere nothing seems wrong. It is a continuity shot of going around
the woods and no use of transitions which is good as we can follow
everything. It is a slow edit to build up tension the effect of this is we are
trying to understand what is happening. It is a bird eyes view of the wood
and the camera is moving like we are the ones looking down on the woods.
I would say it is a long shot to see every detail of the forest. The effect of
this is maybe that we get a better understanding of the setting is this where
characters are going to stay. There is no sound again just music which
suggests it is non-diegetic and the music is contrapuntal music as it doesn’t
match what is happening on screen the music is creepy but the image we
are getting is a calm peaceful place. The use of just music creates tension
and creates an enigma. The texts used is people talking about the film this
is straight in the start which is weird as it is in the end of the trailer. But
having it in start engages the audience to want to find out more. It
promotes the film by telling the people what others have said. The text is in
white in the middle to catch everyone's eye.
4. The mise en scene is again high key lighting as it is in the day. This
suggests that nothing bad will happen as bad things happen at
night in horror. We don’t see a main character but we see a
couple of people, they are wearing camping outfits and have
backpacks suggesting that they are camping in the woods. The
sign says no entry after nightfall. But it seems like they will be
sleeping there. Which the audience can see already something
bad to going to happen. It makes them wonder what is going
to happen next why cant they stay till after nightfall. I would
say this a montage as different shots are cut together. The use
of straight cuts is use for transitions. It is a long sequence as it
is all connected but cut fast. This is to not give too much
information away. The camerawork is used was a handheld
camera to give the audience a POV shot. The shot used is a
medium shot but the main focus of that shot is the sign. This is
so we can read it and get a better understanding about the
place there are staying at. Still there is no use of diegetic sound
just non diegetic music. The music allows us to focus on the
image and have us thinking about everything that is going on.
5. The character seems to look back like she hears or sees something.
The use of high key lighting helps us see the setting better,
looking at the detail in better depth. There are other characters
soon but maybe this is character we will get to follow a lot more.
It is straight cut again as it flows well and it is easy to follow
along. As it all link together. This trailer use a mixture of short fast
and slow shots to not give us enough information. The shot is
long shot as you can see the setting on the woods. It allows us to
see the background of the other characters and give us a better
understanding. We are able to see her body language. She seems
confused and uncertain. There is no use of diegetic sound but the
use of music continues and this keeps the flow of the trailer as we
are engages with the image on screen and nothing else. The
music is creepy and unsettling.
6. The use of low key lighting is like the character have no light in the
woods. The use of black conveys power darkness and an evil
presence is there. The use of having the text in simple white
means the audience focus on it. As it isn't too much in your face.
It tell the audience the date of the film and the name of the film
still hasn’t been said yet which is good as they are already
engaged in their heads will be hopeful planning to watch the film.
Its so they have a set mind of when it is coming out. The editing
is straight cut s it all flows well together. The camera shot used is
a long shot and the text is moving towards you. They have the
date before all the bad things happens which is good as the
audience are taken to see fast short shots of the people getting
hurt etc. Through the trailer there was no diegetic sounds just
non-diegetic music. It doesn’t lose its feel. If they were talk it
would ruin the imagery created.
7. The mood created is a eerie atmosphere and has the
audience wondering what is going to jump out. The use of
low key lighting helps create this mood. It flows well
together with the music as the use of non-diegetic music
bring the whole together and allows the audience to focus
just the image and not anything else. Lots of questions are
created while looking at this trailer which is good as the
audience would want to watch the film to find out more.
It is straight cut at first then it fades out to the text part.
The camerawork used is handheld which allows the
audience to feel like they are running from something too.
It creates tension. The shot is a long shot so we see
everything around for example in the shot you can also see
someone running too.
8. The mood created is a mixture. We feel sorry
for this character but confused as to what
happen. Which again leaves an enigma.
The use of low key lighting sets the mood
and the one light that is put on her face is
good as we are able to see how she feels.
She looks like she is pain and fighting to
get out. Everything is in pitch black. But
showing her face conveys how there is
darkness around but they is a light trying
to help her. The is a lot of mud around
her. The editing has the two texts either
side of the shot. E.g. it goes 'there is" then
the shot of the girl happen then it goes to
'something' like is has prewarned us that
something is lurking in the woods and
she is now part of it. They edited that part
well as it creates tension build suspense.
The shot was a bit longer than other
ones. This is a close up was we can only
see her. Before seeing her face it is like
the camera is giving us the POV allowing
us to see what the camera sees. Giving us
a deeper insight. There is again no
diegetic sound just non-diegetic music we
can only her face and the expression she
gives is that she is in pain. It makes us
wonder what is saying, is she calling for
someone. It creates many questions. It is
likes she is in front of us and she is
reaching out to us for help.
9. The mood created is a scary one as we don’t know what she is reaching out
to. It is like she is holding her hand towards us making the audience feel
apart of the film. Low key lighting keys tension and makes the audience
wonder what is lurking about. The character looks scared and she fighting
for her life. The little light allows to see the her hand before she gets pulled
down. the shot is apart of a montage that Is cut into shot fast shots. So we
again the audience do not get too much information. The shot used a
medium close up and it allows the audience to see her facial expression
and what is around. The use of no diegetic sound makes the music stand
out more. The use of non diegetic helps the audience not know a lot. It
creates questions. It leaves many enigmas. The light highlight her hand
showing us the audience again that she is reaching out o us for help.
10. The use of low key lighting shows us the woods is dangerous but
there is bit of lighting coming out which could convey people
are looking out to the sky trying to find the light and make it. It
likes someone is looking up. The editing that leads to this shot is
a black out which builds anticipation. It has them on the edge of
their seats wondering what is going to happen next. It flows well
together.
This would be a medium shot as you can the background. The image
in the back is moving like the tree are coming together. The use
of non-diegetic sound effects creates tension. It sounds like the
ground is opening up making the audience wonder what has
happened. The text is again in a simple white text. It isn't too
much in your face. It being in the end allows the audience to
finally know the name and bring the whole trailer together. They
buidlt the tension then calm it down with trailer so the audience
are fully engaged.
