1. Question 3
Our product could be something which could possibly be produced by a Hollywood
studio however I feel that as Hollywood produce many other thriller themed films,
albeit not many adult only thrillers, our product would benefit more if it were an
independent film that hadn’t used famous, well recognized actors and relied more on
tricks than having a huge budget as I feel it would make our film seem more real, which
overall would improve the quality of our film as realism is a predominant theme in
thrillers.
I also feel that using lesser known actors would make the film more real and immersive
as many views would only be able to link the actor to the character that they are playing
here and not any other shows or films that they have seen them in.
Our product as a thriller film does have some similarities to other films in the same
genre but as 18+ thrillers are a rarity our film won’t be clichéd and will offer something
that fans of only adult thrillers don’t often get. Something new.
Our product doesn’t have the ability to make a franchise or merchandise from as it
could cheapen our film as focus would be taken from the story and moved to the
product itself therefore the product would only exist to tell the story and to entertain
the viewer.
The visual style of our film was grit which was shown in our opening sequence with the
bleak weather to reflect the gloomy atmosphere of the situation however during the
very start of our film you can see that the weather is actually quite bright and sunny as
the jogger is running along the beach before he finds the body. This sets a false tone as
the sun and brightness are juxtaposed to the dark weather that is visible later on. This
suggests that the setting isn’t actually in perpetual doom and gloom and that it can
become “bright” again once more.
