Professional Experience
Jan 2015 – Present Project Manager with Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) on the FDM Ex Forces
Programme
I have spent the entire period working within the Insurance sector of LBGs Group IT on the Desktop
Transformation Project, which is part of a bank wide programme moving from Windows XP to Windows 7.
I have primarily been responsible for coordinating the work of each of the Development Teams responsible
for the remediation of the client side applications throughout the Insurance area, which accounts for 400
applications. This has included monitoring progress and costs and establishing links with other resources to
assist with the more problematic applications.
I have also been the Business Champion, responsible for planning the migration of up to 900 personnel
within the Insurance sector of LBG’s Group IT. The primary focus of this role is to ensure that there are
personnel who can develop and support the Applications in Windows 7, whilst maintaining the same for the
Applications in Windows XP, until such time as all business users have also migrated.
This has also involved a substantial amount of troubleshooting in cases where Applications cannot be
migrated due to limitations in their software and issues concerning the domain area of a large proportion of
personnel within Insurance.
This role has presented me with the opportunity to display how the skills I acquired in my military career can
be transferred to the commercial environment, as well as the financial sector.
Oct – Dec 2014 Retired from the Army and attending courses and interviews
HM Forces – Army Officer (Sep 1998 – Oct 2014)
Sep 2011 – Oct 2014 Staff Officer in charge of Military Knowledge courses
I was the Military lead for the development and delivery of officer education and training through distance
learning. I was therefore the project manager for all of the work strands relating to the update, design,
enhancement and delivery of the online Military Knowledge (MK) courses and ensured that there was a full
blended learning package between the online courses and the residential courses that officers attended at
each key stage of their careers.
I coordinated military and civilian contributions and oversaw the planning, application, coherency and policy
of the MK courses. The role required attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and supervise the work of
both my office and Cranfield University.
Sep 2009 – Aug 2011 Executive Officer of the Land Forces Force Development and
Training Interoperability Branch
I was involved in liaising with key international allies on various issues concerning UK foreign policy,
defence policy and operational requirements. I oversaw relations with UK’s lead European ally for
operations in Afghanistan. I was part of the team involved in the defence treaty negotiations with France. I
also participated in other international staff talks.
During my period in post I was able to further develop my negotiation skills and political thinking.
I was also given responsibility for the Army’s complex international budget with the task of reducing costs,
requiring me to make difficult decisions regarding UK relations with other nations and the requirements of
personnel posted overseas. It was also necessary for me to relocate the branch to its new office in Andover.
Mar 2007 – Dec 2008 Staff Officer Training and Plans 7th
Armoured Brigade HQ
I was responsible for coordinating the training of one of the principle brigades of the British Army and assist
in preparing it for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The role required thorough planning and the ability to work as part of a team in order to ensure that troops
were able to deploy with the correct equipment and stores.
Jun 2005 – Mar 2007 Adjutant of the Kings and Cheshire Regiment
I was responsible to the Commanding Officer on matters concerning military law, discipline, policy and
personnel issues. This required a thorough knowledge and understanding of these areas and skills in
analysis and man management.
An additional task was also given to me to plan and coordinate the Battalion’s parade and presentation of
medals by HRH The Prince of Wales. I was also the Cheshire Garrison Adjutant and therefore oversaw the
annual Remembrance Day parade at Chester Cathedral.
2. I was deployed to Estonia and played a lead role in the preparation of both UK and Estonian troops for
operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, developing strong people skills and cultural awareness. I also planned
and coordinated the UK units final test exercise prior to their deployment.
Following changes to the structure of the Infantry I also became responsible for the drawdown of the
battalion, the handover of the barracks and assisted in the formation of two new battalions. In conducting
this role I became responsible for the assets of the battalion and their onward distribution in line with military
law and regulations.
Sep 2004 – May 2005 Security Sector Reform Operations Officer
Whilst deployed with the 1st
Battalion the Duke of Wellington’s Battlegroup I oversaw the training,
development and deployment of the Iraqi Police Service in Basrah and their relationship with a developing
judiciary. This required me to work with a number of international agencies and assist and advise in the
handling of detainees being held by the Iraqi Police.
I was also the lead for managing the Iraqi security in Basrah City during the first elections.
The role required me to develop skills in negotiation and cultural awareness, which was further enhanced
by my involvement with the mosques and psychological operations.
Jan 2000 – Sep 2004 Platoon Commander 1st
Battalion the King’s Regiment (Jan 2000 – Dec 2002)
and both Platoon Commander and Company Second in Command, The Army Foundation College
Harrogate (Dec 2002 – Sep 2004)
I commanded soldiers and new recruits in both the light and armoured role; responsible for their lives and
welfare as well as their training in UK and overseas. Pastoral care was therefore a key component of this
role.
I commanded soldiers on operations in Northern Ireland in both the patrols and public order role, serving in
South Armagh, Drumcree and Belfast.
Dependent upon the situation, the role required many attributes, developing my skills and experience in
pastoral care and the supervision and education of young people. It also required skills in planning and the
co-ordination of those that were responsible for providing the training and education.
