A highly skilled, resourceful, and committed First Aider trainer in both the military and civil sector with
over 30 years experience in teaching and dealing with first aid and medical emergencies ranging from
minor wounds, fractures, burns and advanced trauma and life support techniques such as inserting

Work Experience.
1st Battalion the Royal Highland Fusiliers 1979 - 1991
Sergeant in charge of a regimental medical centre.
Duties
 In charge of overall running of a military medical centre in both peace time and during
operational tasks.
 Assessing, tri-ageing and treating soldiers who required medical treatment. This could range
from applying a plaster to inserting sutures, minor surgical procedures such as removal of toe
nails and emergency life saving procedures
 Administering drugs, (non-prescription, prescription and controlled) orally, intradermal and
intravienously.
 Security of prescription and controlled drugs within the medical centre.
 Carry out daily checks on controlled drugs held in the medical centre.
 Training soldiers prior to them attending their medical assistant’s courses.
 Training soldiers in medical emergencies. Resuscitation techniques, insertion of IV drips,
blast injuries, gunshot wounds, emergency airway management, chest drainage and
aspiration ect.
 Organise training exercises to test competency of medical staff. This would involve the use of
casualty simulation to enhance reality.
 Running the medical section out in the field and dealing with field related injuries and medical
conditions such as Dehydration, Heat stroke and Hypothermia.
 Ran the regimental medical section during the first gulf conflict (Op Granby). Dealing with
various trauma related injuries. Ranging from minor shrapnel, gunshot, blast injuries and road
traffic accidents.
Royal Army Medical Corps. 1991 – 1996
Duties
 Attached to training wing for 4 armoured field ambulance
 Train soldiers in various skills prior to posting to Iraq.
 Train soldiers prior to attending Combat medical technician Class 2 & 1 courses.
 Book and run ranges for weapons training. Arrange ammunition.
 Ensure security of ammunition en route to, and on the ranges.
 Teach NBC and Advanced 1st aid techniques.
 Arrange training materials for various training and exercises.
 Responsible for security of controlled drugs such as morphine and atropine during field
training
 Attached to Royal Army Medical Corp training depot at Keogh Bks.
 Train both Regimental and RAMC soldiers on Class 3 & 1 medical courses.
 Train soldiers in advanced trauma and life support skills: Resuscitation techniques, suturing,
chest drains, chest decompression and how to deal with soldiers in hot, cold and wet
climates.
 Train soldiers in the administration of intramuscular drugs and intravenous drips.
 Arrange and make up casualties for assessing practical skills of soldiers. Head injuries, blast
injuries, gunshots ect.
 Assessed soldiers on their first aid practical and theory competency’s.
 Managed an outpatients department for 7 military consultants
 Arrange appointments, transport and accommodation for attending patients.
St Andrews First Aid. 1999 – 2010
Senior First Aid Trainer/A1 Assessor.
Duties
 Teach first aid courses to a wide range of clients. Tailor course to meet the needs of clients
and candidates.
 Carry out HSE (First Aid) at Work practical and theory assessments/re-sits.
 Ensure all equipment required is serviceable and fit for courses being run.
 Complete non-competent paperwork for candidates who fail assessments.
 Check registration forms are correctly filled out and filed away in secure cupboard.
 Train new First Aid trainers/assessors to SVQ unit level.
 Pre screened candidates to assess competency prior to attending their first aid trainer’s
course.
 Teach candidates to: Plan, prepare and present lessons, make up session plans, overhead
acetates and power point presentations and to write reflective accounts.
 Supervise candidates prior to and after running their training sessions. Provide feedback and
support candidates on assessment decisions
 Meet with candidates throughout their training programme to go through their sessions and
reflective accounts prior to training. Supervise and guide them when required.
 Carry out assessment of qualified trainers during their teaching sessions.
 Attend regular meeting with training advisor and other A1 assessors. Ensure all course
content is up to date and in accordance with HSE requirements and contribute to the internal
quality assurance of the organisation.
Self Employed from 2003-2013
I ran my own First Aid training company
Horizon medical and security services and training. 2013-2015
I was employed as a medical manager responsibly for administrating and running all medical related
courses from a 1 day EFAW course to FPOS I and MIRA. During this time I was also deployed to
Romania, Ukraine, Bulgaria to run medical courses.
My duties included
 Course administration and ensuring there was enough supplies for the successful running of
courses.
 Booking casualties for final exercise scenarios.
 Booking make-up artist for casualty simulation.
 Laise with the MD and Operations manager on any post course admin.
From September 2015 till Jan 2016 I was the Medical Manager Middle East working in conjunction
with Gulf Shield security services. During my time there I successfully ran a number of FPOS I and
MIRA courses for the local nationals. As part of this joint venture I was responsible for training the first
local nations up to RCS approved MIRA courses.
Gulf Shield security services Jan 2016- July 2016
My main duties at GS was as the medical manager, running FPOS and MIRA courses and also
running the GS medical clinic. I was also employed as a TL/Medic.
In Feb 2016 I was asked to go to Umm Qasr and set up and run the medical clinic for one of our
clients, Swiftships.
My role running the clinic was to look after all medical/health problems for all Swiftship employees, the
local nationals and anyone who were in camp at the time.
I was also employed as a TL/Medic.
