Energy Saving
& Sustainable
Energy
Management
26 - 28 February 2017 | Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Understanding the language and practices of sustainable
energy management
Kit Oung is an award-winning, energy savings
director
Vice Chair at Energy Managers’ Association
Dubai to double
energy efficiency by
2030
Implementing an energy management system can systematically
reduce its energy consumption and sustain its energy performance.
The course highlights best practices from organisations of all sizes
and global locations. This Master-class provides the fundamentals
of a coherent and close-loop energy management strategy, and its
role in enabling sustained energy performance improvements. The
business needs and aspirations for reduced energy consumption are
critically examined from the perspectives of a holistic and balanced
approach to manage energy:
(1) governance,
(2) tools and techniques,
(3) information and insights,
(4) people engagement,
(5) multiplier effects.
Kit Oung
Kit Oung is an award-winning, energy savings director. He has written
(and co-written) six energy management books, is Vice Chair at Energy
Managers’ Association, and Advisory Board member of Resource
Efficiency research (EPOS) at University of Gent, 2degrees Network,
and Institute of Chemical Engineers’ Energy Leadership Forum.
Kit works with businesses to achieve real-and-achievable energy
savings using high-return low-investment strategies. He has 18
years of hands-on energy management experience in a range of
commercial and industrial companies across four continents. Kit
brings a unique blend of experience gained from technical operations,
management, consultancy, equipment supplier, academic, and in
policy development.
From a standards perspective, he was the convenor of ISO 50002, EN
16247 and PAS 51215. He is a lead auditor, trainer, and UK’s principal
expert for ISO 50001, and ISO 50003. Currently, Kit sits on ISO’s
JTCG committee writing the integrated use of management systems
handbook
A quick survey of the current capabilities for energy
efficiency showed that existing energy saving
techniques and technologies can reduce energy
consumptionby73%andupto25%ofthesavingscan
be saved without major capital costs and changes to
business practices. However, the use and promotion
of energy-efficient technologies are only achieving a
fraction of its potential – less than 1% year on year.

Dubai’s energy from clean energy
sources sets target of
Gain knowledge and application of energy saving
sustainable energy practices
In particular, the tools and techniques to:
• Identify where and how much energy your organisation consume
• Quantify your organisations’ energy baseline and energy performance
• Compare your organisations’ energy performance vs. that of your competitors
• Key frameworks to identify opportunities to improve energy performance
• Prioritise opportunities to maximise savings and reducing costs
• Define competencies to embed energy saving habits in your organisation
• Engage people in your organisation to save energy
Who Should Attend:
Officials who are responsible for leading, managing, designing, optimising, developing and implementing
strategies for improving energy performance. This includes reducing energy use, energy consumption or
increasing energy efficiency.
Those with a knowledge in implementing and maintaining ISO 14001- and/or ISO 50001-based management
system is advantageous but it is not a prerequisite.
Participants are required to pre-read a case study
and prepare an analysis of the issues presented.
The case study analysis is similar to Harvard Business Schooled case study method. For more information,
please see http://www.hbs.edu/mba/academic-experience/Pages/the-hbs-case-method.aspx
This master-class utilises blended learning
techniques, including:
Short
lectures
Extended
case study
analysis
Group

self-reflections, group works and plenary discussions are
used to draw similarities and contrast differences to energy

Training www.fleming.events Energy Saving & Sustainable Energy Management 26 - 28 February 2017 | Dubai, United Arab Emirates Understanding the language and practices of sustainable energy management Kit Oung is an award-winning, energy savings director Vice Chair at Energy Managers’ Association
  • 2. Dubai to double energy efficiency by 2030 Implementing an energy management system can systematically reduce its energy consumption and sustain its energy performance. The course highlights best practices from organisations of all sizes and global locations. This Master-class provides the fundamentals of a coherent and close-loop energy management strategy, and its role in enabling sustained energy performance improvements. The business needs and aspirations for reduced energy consumption are critically examined from the perspectives of a holistic and balanced approach to manage energy: (1) governance, (2) tools and techniques, (3) information and insights, (4) people engagement, (5) multiplier effects. Kit Oung Kit Oung is an award-winning, energy savings director. He has written (and co-written) six energy management books, is Vice Chair at Energy Managers’ Association, and Advisory Board member of Resource Efficiency research (EPOS) at University of Gent, 2degrees Network, and Institute of Chemical Engineers’ Energy Leadership Forum. Kit works with businesses to achieve real-and-achievable energy savings using high-return low-investment strategies. He has 18 years of hands-on energy management experience in a range of commercial and industrial companies across four continents. Kit brings a unique blend of experience gained from technical operations, management, consultancy, equipment supplier, academic, and in policy development. From a standards perspective, he was the convenor of ISO 50002, EN 16247 and PAS 51215. He is a lead auditor, trainer, and UK’s principal expert for ISO 50001, and ISO 50003. Currently, Kit sits on ISO’s JTCG committee writing the integrated use of management systems handbook A quick survey of the current capabilities for energy efficiency showed that existing energy saving techniques and technologies can reduce energy consumptionby73%andupto25%ofthesavingscan be saved without major capital costs and changes to business practices. However, the use and promotion of energy-efficient technologies are only achieving a fraction of its potential – less than 1% year on year. Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 7% by 2020 25% by 2030 & 75% by 2050 Dubai’s energy from clean energy sources sets target of
  • 3. Gain knowledge and application of energy saving sustainable energy practices In particular, the tools and techniques to: • Identify where and how much energy your organisation consume • Quantify your organisations’ energy baseline and energy performance • Compare your organisations’ energy performance vs. that of your competitors • Key frameworks to identify opportunities to improve energy performance • Prioritise opportunities to maximise savings and reducing costs • Define competencies to embed energy saving habits in your organisation • Engage people in your organisation to save energy Who Should Attend: Officials who are responsible for leading, managing, designing, optimising, developing and implementing strategies for improving energy performance. This includes reducing energy use, energy consumption or increasing energy efficiency. Those with a knowledge in implementing and maintaining ISO 14001- and/or ISO 50001-based management system is advantageous but it is not a prerequisite. Participants are required to pre-read a case study and prepare an analysis of the issues presented. The case study analysis is similar to Harvard Business Schooled case study method. For more information, please see http://www.hbs.edu/mba/academic-experience/Pages/the-hbs-case-method.aspx This master-class utilises blended learning techniques, including: Short lectures Extended case study analysis Group Discussions, workshops, video clips. self-reflections, group works and plenary discussions are used to draw similarities and contrast differences to energy management practices on paper and in practice.
