1. The R-word presentations were created by 3 students on their own
time. They presented their projects to our Lunch Bunch group in
January. Our Lunch Bunch group is made up of students with and
without ID to help practice social skills. All students in Lunch Bunch
are also Meet in the Middle participants and we meet during lunch
every Friday.
On January 8 and 29, Lunch Bunch students talked about the Food
Pyramid, tracked food habits for 1 week and then discussed how
changes could be made to develop better nutrition habits. We also
talked about the effects of these better nutrition habits such as
improved health, better athletic performance, and better academic
performance. This completed activities 8 and 9 in the project folder.
On Sep 18, Lunch Bunch students interviewed each other (activity
10) and found out they are more alike than different.
Our Fellowship of Christian Athletes are helping our SO athletes train
for upcoming events. We meet on the last Friday of each month
before school as a large group to hang out and play basketball. The
FCA captains have been paired up with our SO athletes to practice
2-3 times a week before school to work on the specific skills for the
competitions. We are excited to get approval for our FCA training
buddies to attend the SO basketball competition Friday, Feb 19 at Ft
Sam Houston.
On Feb 12, Lunch Bunchers made posters to hang around the school
to wish our SO basketball athletes good luck at their upcoming
competition. They also wrote announcements to be read during
school-wide announcements. This brings school-wide recognition to
our Special Olympic athletes as they "Go for the Gold!"
