1. SPECIAL OLYMPICS TRACK AND FIELD
Your student has expressed interest in being a “training buddy” for one of our Special Olympic athletes. Our athletes are currently preparing for track and field events. Dobie participates in a program called Meet in the Middle, which seeks to bring together youth with and without intellectual disabilities through sports and other inclusive activities. FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) is one of the many Dobie student organizations who support Meet in the Middle. More information on Meet in the Middle can be found at this website: http://www.sotx.org/get-involved/meet-in-the-middle/
There will be opportunities on Wednesday mornings from 7:45 to 8:08 to help prepare athletes for their events (in the old gym) as well as two district wide practice sessions during the school day. A district bus would be used for transportation and students would have an excused absence from missed classes but would need to make up missed work. I will be accompanying our Dobie students to these practices.
April 9th @ Steele HS Track and Field from 9:30 am to 11 am
April 23 @ Clemens HS Track and Field from 9:30 to 11 am
The final track and field event will be held on May 1 (Sat) Harlandale HS stadium. Special Olympics already has designated and trained volunteers for this event; however, you are welcome to attend with your child to cheer everyone on. There is no district transportation for this event. You can find out more information about this event and other volunteer opportunities at the following website: http://www.sotx.org/
Thank you in advance for your support and please let me or Coach Head know if you have any questions. My email is sites@scuc.txed.net. Please return the attached permission slip with transportation release as soon as possible if you would like your child to participate.
Sandra Ites
Inclusion Teacher / Autism Support
Dobie Jr High
